HOW OFTEN DO YOU DO THIS? AND IS LECA ONLY USED INDOORS? OR CAN OUTDOOR PORCHES/DECK PLANTERS ALSO USE LECA FOR SOIL?

I don't like to use chlorine, why don't you like to boil it for 15 minutes?

It's always a good idea to sterilize LECA when reusing - so boiling is an option. Or, simply soak LECA in a mild bleach solution (1 part bleach to 10 parts water) for a couple of hours - or over night. Then rinse with clear warer and you're ready to go!

How about adding water to the container and allowing all the organic stuff float to the top and then skimming it off! Might be easier than the fan technique although that is good too!
