@mr.fantastic77564 жыл бұрын
Ah never knew there was a ban on Polish recruitment. Though now that I think about it, I remember hearing about Polish Units with the Allied Army forcing into service any Poles they came across in enemy uniform. Though of course this was 1944 late war, Market Garden around. So I can see Germany's reluctance to recruit Poles. First of all you can't trust arming them on the Eastern Front due to the proximity of Poland itself and polish resistance in general. And as far as sending them to the Western Front as was done with other Eastern 'Auxilia', could not trust them against allied units with possible Polish elements.
@gmaacentralfounder4 жыл бұрын
@@mr.fantastic7756 Not really. That changing uniform from German to Polish was mostly voluntary, because those were people who were basically Poles, but considered to be "germanic people", like Silesians, Kashubians, Masurians etc. They were considered German by either a decree or by signing VolksListe (often under force), so it's understandable they would be willing to surrender to Allies and then join Polish Armed Forces. The title of this video is, if anything, an understatement. Insanity... And reluctance has little to do with it. It was personal order of AH excluding Poles from that "privilege".

The part about the Dutch being part of the German sphere comes from the 8th to 17th century. More or less. When the Netherlands was part of the HRE. The peak period of the "first Reich". In essence, dutch were seen as cousins of the rest of the germans. And regarded much higher than anyone else. It had been part of the HRE since its founding in 800. Only becoming fully independent "except for Limburg province" in 1648. So on the grander scale of things. The Netherlands as an independent entity isn't all that old.
@Timbo50004 жыл бұрын
You're forgetting that we were all similar Germanic tribes before that, for thousands of years, which also contributes to this sense of a shared identity. Ethnically, we are related to the Germans and are Germanic ourselves. My guess is that this genetic element is the main reason the Nazis were fond of the Netherlands, coupled with some cultural and historic factors that link us as well. Being as obsessed with eugenics as they were, that seems the probable main factor.
@mickeymegabyte4 жыл бұрын
dutch nearly equals deutsch...
@Timbo50004 жыл бұрын
@@mickeymegabyte Actually, Dutch = Deutsch. Deutsch/Dutch is old Germanic for "folk". All Germanic peoples used to refer to themselves as "Dutch" a long time ago. In the Netherlands, we referred to ourselves as Diets or Duits up until the 17th/18th century. In fact, the sentence "of Duits/Dutch blood" is still in our national anthem, though that also refers to how our king at the time came from Germany. The English simply called the Germanic people closest to them, "Dutch", which is 100% correct (and/or we introduced ourselves as "Duyts" during trade relations). After thousands of years of calling ourselves "Diets/Duits" and many older forms of that term, we stopped using it but the English never stopped. Germany didn't stop and named their nation Deutschland. Even though at the time all German-speaking peoples would call themselves "Deutsch". Nowadays the original use of the term "Duits" is largely forgotten and we only call the Germans "Duits".

Hans FK Günther was never called the Race Pope... Not in German-speaking countries at least. He was called "Rassen-Günther". According to race-theory there was not a german race either but at least five european races. The Celtic race, the ost-baltish, the fallish race and so on. And the Nordic race. They would qualify with to measurements and traits like being blonde. The idea was that the Nordic race had invaded these areas a long time ago and therefore you could find descendents in these countries. Race theory was never that "national" since races crossed borders. No race were deemed pure either so the idea was to breed out the other races from the Nordic race. This might seem insane now but were not that weird during the era. Main-line race-theory during the era was quite similar to the German view even though that changed quickly. I think you overstate the use of the word souls... It is just an expression, they meant they were going to import the genetic material or actual people not the souls. Himmler was religious though but national socialism was a very biologically minded ideology. It was all about genetics and blood. Yes I research this for a living.

9:04 The Netherlands were once part of the Holy Roman Empire and its people are of Germanic descent (The Dutch language is part of the West Germanic language tree). So they are very close to Germans. This is hardly controversial, it's common knowledge. I have no idea why TiK doesn't know it. Belgium tends to be dominated by the French-speaking Walloons, which is why the country wasn't considered 'Germanic'. Its area of Flanders (Flemish in itself being another dialect of Dutch) was considered Germanic, however, and Flanders had different treatment during German occupation. 14:00 Unlike the other Baltic States, Estonia is Finno-Ugric. Meaning, they're close relatives to the Finns (their languages also form part of the same branch and they can speak with each other); it runs from there that Estonians are very similar to the Finns, who are not weak at all. This is also well known, there is a reason why today Finland and Estonia have a special relationship. And Latvia [especially Riga] was the base for German medieval military orders (especially the Knights of the Sword, later integrated into the Teutonic Knights) for centuries.

Rationalization vs. Justification Rationalizing is a form of Sophistry. It is not grounded in Immutable Truth. It twists and strains logic with fallacies in order to arrive at a desired end state -- to lend a thin veneer of plausible truth to an otherwise destructive, self-serving opinion. Ironically, Rationalizing is blatantly irrational. Justification must be anchored to Truth with chains of Logic. Justification allows for the self-serving opinion to be rejected by, modified by and conform with Truth and Reality. When one justifies their position, they have measured themselves by an objective standard and have a logical basis for their thoughts and actions. The one who rationalizes measures themselves by themselves. The one who justifies navigates dangerous waters by gauging their position with the stars. The one who rationalizes navigates those same waters by fixing their position by the light atop their own mast.

With regard to the notion that "weaker" people are the ones that die in combat: if anything, the reverse seems to quite often be the case. Elite units almost always suffer higher casualty rates than their comrades in line units - not because the elites are "weaker", but because their proven competence means that they tend to get given the toughest missions, and they're more likely to keep going forward in the face of lethal threat instead of hunkering down and calling for backup.

If you get hit in the face with an RPG you're gonna get blown to pieces - it doesn't matter if you're an "undesirable weakling" or a physically and mentally desirable person with "perfect" genes. It's not as though having huge muscles, blonde hair and good health will save you if a tank rolls over your head. Every human is soft and squishy. According to Speer, when he was arguing that something of Germany had to be salvaged for a post war German existence, Hitler said “there will be nothing to salvage, all the good Germans have already died in the war”. I would like to add my opinion to your comments about absurdness over the myth of racial purification of group of people by decimating the unit. In my opinion it's also absurd because I think that the fittest and most combat effective soldiers are more likely to be killed in action. The best soldiers are self-acting, they lead by example and try to defuse a risky situation by putting them at higher risk of death. This Himmler's racial soul purification -theory would also imply that the cowards who avoid danger and thus deteriorate unit's combat effectiveness are somehow more aryan because they are more likely to survive.

That's a fair point. I'd argue that not all the best soldiers would die out right and all, but your point does make the case it's not all black and white and straight forward. Russia was conquered by the Rurikids, a dynasty founded by a Norae viking, with many Norsemen migrating and settling in modern day Russia and Ukraine. Eventually, they became assimilated into local Slavic ethnicity (race). 2. Estonia and Latvia were both under the rule of the Teutonic Order/Livonian Order. Large numbers of Germans migrated into the territory during that time, being assimilated into their populations. Was Hitler trying to rebuild the Third Riech from territories that used to be part of the Holy Roman Empire?

@ImperialKnight866 ай бұрын
@@barsukascool Sure, I'll hear it.
@barsukascool6 ай бұрын
@@ImperialKnight86 The territories Hitler desired to annex can be figured out examining historical sources like speeches, from which we can understand the beliefs of certain people; as well as events on the ground, like the occupation and administration of certain territories. It is also important to note, that Hitler not only wanted to annex these areas, but also fully integrate them into Germany. The integration would be violent and would include the deportation and genocide of Eastern populations - Balts and Slavs (Poles, Russians, Ukranians, Belarusians, Lithuanians, Latvians and local Jews), and the deportations or assimilations of others (Estonians, Tatars, French, Italians (i.e. not Slavs or Balts). These are the territories Hitler likely desired to annex: The eastern countries (justified through Lebensraum): Czechia, Poland (except small Slovakian territories), Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine (except Romanian territories up to the Southern Bug) and Russia up to (likely) some defendable terrain (likely the Ural mountains)(except Finish territories - Kola peninsula and Karelia). There are no known plans for Slovakia. It would likely be annexed by Hungary in the future or be partitioned by Hungary and Germany. The Germanic speakers (justified through the idea of all Germanic speakers being part of the Aryan race): 1. Scandinavia: Denmark, Sweden and Norway (the latter two may be reduced in size to further reward Finland, but not necesarily). Denmark’s possesions in Iceland and Greenland may have been desired mostly as strategic bases by Hitler, but they would likely not be aquired even after a potential victory by Germany of World War II, due to British and/or American occupation. 2. The Benelux and France: Hitler’s ambitions in the West expanded further than the recently lost Alsace-Lorraine and Eupen-Malmedy. Even during the war, he annexed the linguistically close to Germany, Luxembourg, but he also desired what he considered to be Germans in the Netherlands (the Dutch) and the Flemish parts of Belgium which were also historically considered Dutch. Beyond that, he also considered the Northern region of France, south of Belgium, up to river Somme and teritory east of that to be gallicized Germans, because of the Holy Roman Empire and the Frankish Empire existing in those territories in the past. During the war, there was an administrative zone called ‘zone réservée’, which was supposed to be resetlled with Germans, spanning Northern and Eastern France. So, in the west Hitler wanted to annex Luxembourg, Belgium, the Netherlands and all of ‘zone réservée’. The south: In 1938, Hitler annexed Austria, but he also desired to annex most of Switzerland, including the German speakers and the French speakers (to be assimilated). He would also, likely, allow Italy to annex teritories in the south of Switzerland - Grissons, Ticino and Valais. Hitler also desired the historically Austrian-controlled Tyrol, Slovenia and Istria and the Italian provinces between them - Belluno and Friuli. Tyrol, Slovenia, Istria, Belluno and Friuli were already annexed by Hitler during the war. In conclusion, Hitler desired to vastly expand Germany and include many teritories spanning up to the Ural mountains in the East, Norway and Sweden in the South, river Somme and all the rest of ‘zone réservée’ in the West and Switzerland, Slovenia and Tyrol in the South. TL;DR: Hitler desired to annex these teritories into Germany: All of the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Czechia, Belarus, most of Norway Sweden, Slovenia, Poland, Ukraine, Switzerland, some of Russia, France, Italy, Croatia, Slovakia. I think that’s all.

@Jasta 2 The issue is that Nazis had to believe that race is more material rather than spiritual because otherwise there is no reason for a lot of their actions. For example the Nuremberg Laws. About the Japan ... initially Germany was interested in allying with China. Then we have nations like Fins, Hungarians, Estonians... and Nazi Germanization programs of Polish children. Something doesn't fit here. It almost seems like Nazi ideology was adjusted to fit the contemporary political interests of Nazis and that is why this "spiritual Aryan" doctrine had to be invented to provide a justification for their actions to their own supporters.

If the germans viewed the Lithuanians as not worthy of an SS battalion, they wouldn't even have attempted to raise one.

Yeah, Himmler was a silly superstitious laughingstock, but denying the visibly obvious existence of racial and ethnic groups is almost as silly. You're not going to end up a Nazi if you notice that two Swedes never produce a Dinka, a Pygmy, or a Japanese, nor even if you accept that different human population groups that evolved in genetic isolation for tens of thousands of years might just differ in behavioral and mental characteristics just as occurs in literally every other species.

@TIK you should look up Aryan invasion of India, Tocharians, Andronovo culture. The word Aryan is from Eran or Iran. The term Aryan fell out of fashion and is now called indoiranian. They were, in fact, the ancestors of modern Brahmin light skinned caste of India who even today have different subculture, IQ and even genetics then most Indian populace. What NS failed to realize is that their type is, in fact more celtic (especially the party leadership). Even German (even today) views on gender roles etc was very different then indoiranians (or Aryans) who were more egalitarian and only allowed women to marry after serving draft. Something 1930s or even today Germans would frown upon. So their 'type' was critically missed. Those were Scythians and Sarmatians and they were attested as being tall blonde and light haired.

@Eisen Chao True. I put it badly. Not all differences are purely cultural . You could group people a thousand different ways as you say. But it wouldn't be called a race. Honestly this really wasn't as surprising or insane as I thought it would be. I thought you were going to get into Himmler ancient battlefield soul harvesting, which makes this look perfectly reasonable. This was not Himmlers first attempt to harvest souls, before the war he encouraged several of his underlings to journey to various battlefields of the ancient world and have sex with their wives on certain nights of occult significance so that the Aryan souls of the dead warriors from past millennium would go into the copulating couple and be incarnated into the children conceived on that night, bringing the ancient souls of lost heroes back to Germany and giving their power to future generations of German warriors. Given what I just said I think your overstating the case on how insane his reasoning behind recruiting Estonians was.

6:40 with respect, I do not believe "the Nazis" ever claimed that the Germans were "a subspecies of the Nordic race". I am not sure this is very relevant, but if you're going to post a video to 146k viewers, you might as well get the facts right. They did identify what they considered the best traits of the Germans as "Nordic", but they were well aware that the German people was a mixture, and substantial parts especially of "Alpine" traits. What they proposed was to foster selective breeding of Nordic traits. So yes, they were clearly racist (duh) -- but of course by todays standards, the Allies were also racist, so this statement on its own is neither here nor there. If I remember correctly, the rather artificial concept of "Aryan" was picked because it was very obvious that southern Germans were predominantly non-Nordic, and they needed a more inclusive term (because it wasn't desirable to play the northern Germans against the southern Germans if your aim was national unity and solidarity to the point of fanaticism). There are other inaccuracies nonchalantly thrown in. For example, I have never seen evidence that the Nazis were "especially" preoccupied with skin color. This wasn't really an issue, because (a) it didn't really come up in Germany and (b) this aspect of racial hierarchies was generally accepted throughout the west and there was no need to harp on it because nobody was disputing it.

As for the English, both Hitler and Himmler had a strange, love-hate relationship with them. Because English is a Germanic language and they believed that the English people came from "Germanic" stock (ie. the Anglo-Saxons, Danes, Jutes, and later Scandanavian Viking invaders/settlers, etc), they considered the English as "Germanic (aka Nordic)". Hitler actually used the English/British Empire to try to show Germanic supremacy; he even wrote that if the English/British stayed out of the war with Germany, he'd give Great Britain 12 German divisions to use as they pleased in their empire; of course this was very early in the war when he did this. Furthermore, he saw the English/British as natural allies of the Germans. Finally, Himmler talked himself into believing that the Bosniaks (ie. Bosnian Muslims) were not really Slavs, but were really the remnants of the Germanic Goths that lived in the Balkans during Roman times.
@christopherhayes52384 жыл бұрын
@wagner1va Well, the Bosniaks are ethnically Slavs (who are of the Islamic religion) and there are certainly a lot of Slavic people who are fair-haired and light-eyed; actually, Slavic peoples are as fair-haired and light-eyed as Germanic peoples tend to be. The Bosniaks converted to Islam when the Ottoman Turks ruled the Balkans from the 14th century until the 19th century. The Bosniaks are not ethnically Turks, but rather ethnic Slavs.
