Prince of Wales thanks Canadian military for bravery and sacrifice as he attends a ceremony commemorating Canada’s role in D-Day on Thursday 6 June.
Royalty and world leaders have gathered with veterans in Normandy to mark the 80th anniversary of the landings.
William attended the Canadian commemorative event at the Juno Beach Centre, Courseulles-sur-Mer.

As the daughter of a Canadian who served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1941-1945 thank you for the lovely words of commemoration. Luckily my father returned. So many made the ultimate sacrifice. In memory of my father I would ask for some respect on this post. It is so easy on social media for people to comment in really abhorrent fashion. My thanks and respect to all who fought and sacrificed so much on D-Day and the ensuing battles for the liberation of Europe and those caught in the monstrosity of the camps of the Holocaust.💔

I’m ex-British Army infantry. 1978-1990. Seen active service. Watched muckers fall and die. Watched them invalided out of the Army. I cannot begin to imagine disembarking into such a hell. *Overlord* could have so easily failed. It was that ambitious; its scope unthinkable; all the Allied eggs in one basket. Our responsibility is to make sure that that unique generation did not fight and fall in vain. I commend President Biden for his uncompromising speech. We can argue that he was on the campaign trail.
