Zuckerberg and Senator Hawley clash in fiery child safety hearing

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg apologized to the families of children who suffered abuse on social media platforms during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Wednesday.
“I’m sorry for everything you’ve all gone through,” Mr Zuckerberg said, turning to audience members holding up pictures of their loved ones. “Nobody should have to go through what your families have suffered. This is why we have invested so much and are going to continue industry-leading efforts to make sure that no one has to go through the types of things your families have suffered.”

Social media can destroy a child’s life without them ever making an account, via other kids using it to spread rumors. Also, a lot of school activities are organized exclusively through Facebook these days, so if you want your child to be able to participate you almost are forced to allow them access.

Regardless of which political "tribe" anyone thinks they are a part of, this would be the SAME THING as a politician asking firearm manufacturers if they are willing to pay victim's families. The grandstanding of politicians on these various committees is undermining the point of even having these committees. More and more polticians are using any and every opportunity to just appeal to their "tribe" and advance their popularity rather than collaborate and effectively negotiate the change that progresses this union. I would not defend a billionaire who makes fortune on a product that does not necessarily advance society, but to blame your kid’s self image on a social media company sounds pushing it. yeah but car accidents cant be controlled and happen spontaneously and the cause is the two or more drivers inability or mistake. CEOs of these media outlets have direct control over its company the content it produces to certain demographics. But why blame the creators of those apps when the kids themselves searched for that type of content and kept on going and the parents let it happen the span of months and years?
