Yeah. It is mainly done so your children would have a father in birth certificate and you would get e.g. payment for being deceased veteran widow, as marriage is often postponed until after active assignment (unlike children, who happens whenever they want). IIRC you need some proof of living together to do that.

well : 1) you didn't had a relationship with him (you need some evidences of that) ; 2) he was already married with Françoise d'Aubigné (said "Madame de Maintenon") & divorce was accepted at that time only by the Pape (Innocent XI), so you'll need to show that Louis XIV was single during your relationship ; 3) in the 17th century & still today the polygamy is prohibited in France 3 majors obstacles to your posthumous marriage to conquer ! (not including the fact that nearly 300 years is separating you & the Sun King) :D

I'm french and the ''posthume'' wedding is for situations like wen a soldier's wife become widow she have the right to be reputed married, retroactive stuff,when 2 people planned to marry but one of them dies, it's often to be declared widow and if the wife is pregnant the child will be "church approved" love IGP from France ^^

That's really cool, we have something similar in Serbia but only with less red tape. Basically, if a soldier dies all of his assets and his pay are given to his wife (unless differently specified in his will). If a husband dies and the wife is a household wife without an official job, her husbands pay is given to her as a form of retirement (this goes if a husband worked in government owned company or was in military/ police). As for pregnant people, we get a decent amount of cash for every child...

If the couple had originally planned on getting married and the family of the deceased approves, the prosecutor sends the application back to the President. One out of every four applicants for posthumous marriage is rejected Examples of ways to legally show intent are for the man to have posted banns (official wedding announcements) at the local courthouse or written permission from a soldier's commanding officer. Requests also include records that show a serious cause such as the birth of a child or the death of the fiancé. Pregnancy alone or a letter to that promised marriage does not suffice, partly because such letters have a reputation for being illegitimate.
