It's the wendigo. It mimics the voices of the people it's killed, hence why it imitates a child. "Hello?" "Daddy?" "I'm scared..." It knows you're looking for the two children, so it mimics the voice of the one it ate during it's transformation.

In the ending scene, the wendigo's spirit said that he found one of his daughters near a river I think, but the other one was nowhere to be seen; that false exit, where there was a pool of water and an opening in the ceiling, was near the river. Maybe the other sister fell down there, was trapped inside the cave systems, and eventually died? Maybe that's why a child's voice can be heard down there so frequently.

I think the child noises are part of the wendigo powers. It is able to perfectly imitate any sound, which it uses to lure out its prey, both animal and human.

There are other folkore monsters that will be added the wendigo is just the first one they putted on... if i remember correctly they will put chupacabra, yeti/bigfoot,a lil irish man who loves gold way to much..i forgot how is call, a werewolf, a witch,etc i believe those are one of them
