I worked in Corrections--and I need to correct the videographer--on the State level, there are different levels: County jail, Work Camp, minimum security, medium security, maximum security and Federal Govt" (SUPERMAX). County Jail is for (as you said) misdemeanors, as well as pre-trial, post-trial, and waiting for a bed to open in a State Prison. A Camp is usually called a Labor Camp, because it is meant for shorter sentences, using work on road crews, fire crews, etc., as a way to get paroled/probated quicker. Minimum--is usually for shorter sentences (below 50 years), and for smaller crimes (A murderer, as opposed to serial murderer). Maximum--is for lifers/ death row/people too dangerous to be in general population/people who could be killed in general population. Most medium and maximum prisons have What is usually call Administrative Segregation, or Adseg--these are for inmates who commit crimes in prison; Inmates who are in danger of being attacked or killed (including convicted police/snitches/child molesters). The ONLY SuperMax in the U.S. is ADX Florence, Colorado, a Federal Penitentiary., the inmates housed there are mostly high profile/insanely dangerous guys, like El Chapo, the Unibomber, The Oklahoma City Bombers, etc.

Misconceptions: 1. You'd rather be in jail than prison. No. If you're going to be in for a while then prison is much more free and many more privileges. 2. Prisons are where felon's are. No. Before one is final sentenced (found guilty) of those charges they are in jail awaiting trial. This often takes a year or two. So in jail you'll find the same violent offenders you will find in prison in a few years. In the jail in my area you hear people every day say they can't wait to go to prison. These are normally medium security facilities where they can have special Android (like) tablets with games and movies on them, their own TV's, freedom to roam the yard, radios, prison jobs, and is less crowded than jail. I can't express enough how untrue that misconception is (at least) in my area of the US.
@heerojillo96634 жыл бұрын
Name Withheld there is also another misconception you forgot to mention, several misdemeanor charges can end up throwing inmates to prisons instead of what the narrative thinks that they serve time in jail. For charges being sentenced 2 years or more( of course after they are being convicted from court ) will automatically send to state prison. Normally those misdemeanors will send to minimum custody to serve sentence just like narrative said. But it is not going to be in jail environment for sure. Also that really depends on that charge of misdemeanor for and the various purpose of each prison as well. Some say that if there is a DUI as first offender, they will be offered some rehab program outside prison and will be released if finish that rehabilitation program. Another misconception is those programs jail offers vs state offers. Obviously, state prison manages way larger than county jail can manage here, so you think all county jails can offer those so called programs for inmates that much? Nah.....don’t think so. State prison has way a lot more resource to conduct those programs for inmates than county jail because state prisons pick up inmates from all corners of the whole state! Duh! Last but not least, it is about the food. Do you even know it is actually those inmates’ own fault to make those prison food that bad? Because food made in prison never add two major ingredients: salt and yeast! Maybe pepper can be included somehow. Because too much peppers is harmful not only to inmate’s body, but also staff if inmates collect those peppers as contraband. As we all know, salt is the main source to make the food tasty, but salt also can make inmates in hunger strike when they intended to use salt to throw up. Talking about yeast....i pretty sure all inmates know why prison food never put yeast in there, so no explanation needed. In conclusion, you can blame on those who previously commit those infractions while in prisons. State prison only do what they must to avoid any contrabands into the prisons.

Let me correct you guys on something. Jails don’t only house inmates that have been charged with a misdemeanor. They also house inmates that have been charged with a felony and are awaiting trial.

Jail - Detainees. Those persons arrested for violation or crime, but whose case is still pending for hearing, or presently being heard by a court; prison - Those persons serving time, or even life after their case was heard, passed judgment on, and have commitment orders, despite same being appealed to court/courts of appeals, and even in supreme court.

In the u.k jail and prison are the same thing or it’s called h.m.p but what you’d call jail, like short sentences or people awaiting sentences is called a remand centre and then there’s different categories like aa cat, a cat, b cat, c cat and d cat. With aa cat being the highest security

The difference: jail is light security, prison is usually from medium to maximum security.
@nicholasselke52143 жыл бұрын
I’ve done ride alongs with countless police agencies and have been inside of county jails whenever someone has gotten arrested on those ride alongs. Every jail I’ve seen the inside of was maximum security with a single medium security pod (one for each gender if the facility wan in a major city) and a segregated housing unit in medium to large sized cities. In the small towns, where they don’t have the capacity for a separate unit, the disruptive inmates would be punished by not being allowed out of their cells except for the minimum of one hour

Here where I live in Norway, people who is in jail/prison love where they're. They've it luxury at the prison. Just watch prisons in Norway. The inmates have their own bed room, PS4, Mac, Bathroom, music room, training, and much more!! They feel like they're home
