Honeymooned on carnival back in 2009. Only ate cereal at night and eggs in the morning. Was not impressed with the food at all. Captains dinner was the Only time I ate any of the meat. Asked for a grilled cheese and was sent up to cold slices of buttered bread and cold cheese.. also the first night I along with an older gentleman were pulled onto stage for a dance off.. long story short he broke his leg and he had to pay outta pocket as they would not allow his insurance to pay for it. I felt so bad for him. He was literally pulled into the stage. They pulled me up a little more gently but we were very unprepared for that( becoming a party of the act).

I was on a cruise with my family in 2006, I was 12 years old. My brother was two year old at the time. I wasn’t actually around for this but the story from my Dad is “I was having a chat with a man when suddenly his face turned white and his mouth dropped, I turned around and your brother had climbed OUTSIDE the railing” so there was nothing between this two year old child and the ocean. If he’d have slipped or let go, well, I don’t even want to think about it. Needless to say my Dad grabbed him as fast as he could and pulled him back over. Gives me anxiety just thinking about it now.

The last cruise I had was my honeymoon, last September. I have been on a handful of cruises but I remember this one distinctly. Because the very last night, the weather was rough. Well, it was windy, anyway. I went up on deck to grab a beer at the aft facing bar, with a perfect view of the setting sun directly in the ship's wake. I had known how windy it was but I didn't not realize until I went on the deck, that the ship was totally tilted at what seemed to be a scientifically impossible angle. Of course we were all fine and make it back but man I did not sleep well that night and kept waking up to the ship rocking. I'm curious how normal that is. No one else really seemed concerned but it felt like the ship was going to tip over into the ocean from the wind.

@RobbetDegoat4 жыл бұрын
@@JoseMartinez-gk2ke Ok well that might cover just this mistake. What about all the rest. You're virtually attacking the cruise industry, one of the most heavily regulated industries in the world. The maritime industry is more regulated than the aviation industry. You give the number of people to fall off a ship with no context. How about comparing that to the amount of people who don't 'fall' off ships. The actual correct statistic is 0.007% of total souls on board which go overboard. More than 28 million (that's 28,000,000) people cruise each year and the average is 20 people will fall or jump off cruise ships each year. which brings me to my next point. You literally acknowledge that an ocean liner is not a cruise ship and then go on to compare it to a cruise ship? I don't understand your logic. Might as well compare cruise ships to flat tires on blue cars. An ocean liner has only one similarities to a cruse ship... it floats. They are built different to achieve different goals. I just don't think you should pass this off as factual when it's just not.

10:00 I'm going to have to stop you right there: you mentioned the Empress of Ireland, I'll get back to that in a moment, you mentioned the Titanic --- now, she was built to accommodate 64 lifeboats but was cut down to 16 which was the Board of Trade's minimum requirement. That was put in place in 1896. Of course, Ship Designer Thomas Andrews Jr. wanted more lifeboats due to the size and capacity of passengers/crew on board but alas, he was overwritten by the Board. In fact, she had 20 lifeboats... although that's just a short amount compared to her design number, the fact still stands: she had more that was legally required but still not enough for everyone on board. In addition, 12 hours prior to the collision, the lifeboat drill was cancelled for unknown reasons and when the disaster occurred, there wasn't a sense of urgency until Thomas Andrews Jr, who was working on blue prints and notes in his cabin, Cabin A-36, was summoned that he explained the situation. Also, the crew was horribly under-trained and had no idea what to do until an hour later when they decided to launch the lifeboats. Finally, the passengers didn't want to leave straight away until most of the lifeboats were already launched. It took 2 hours and 40 minutes (11:40PM -- 2:20AM) to sink. Now, back to the RMS Empress of Ireland, she was struct, yes, but unlike the Titanic, the Empress took a total of 14 minutes (you read the correctly, 14 minutes) to sink to the ocean below taking a total of 1,012 passengers/crew to the bottom of the ocean. The issue was that her watertight doors could not be activated in time, she listed so badly that most of her lifeboats (which was enough for EVERYBODY) could not be used at all.

My family went on a cruise ship along the Nile in Egypt many years ago, and yes I enjoyed the cruise. At least once a day the ship would dock so that the passengers could go on the daily excursions to many of the ancient Egyptian ruins. The food was amazing and I really enjoyed the meal times, the cabin was perfectly reasonable and comfortable. But I very much doubt that I’d ever go on an ocean cruise as one of the things that I liked about the river cruise was watching the scenery go by and the daily excursions. Being on the endless sea world have driven me crazy.

I love going into cruise ships but I sometimes wonder how they are even allowed to exist, you are using as much energy to take billions of cars from point A to B just to transport a few hundreds in a boat, and there's a bunch of loopholes when it comes to the law on cruise ships.

We go on a cruise every chirstmas break in memory of my brother and now in memory of my mother and every time we enter out cabin we check for spyhole cameras. To say the least when we had heard the story of a couple finding a camera in the light of their TV we went into protection mode.

Dinner partner couple when we were in a port in Mexico didn’t listen or believe the warning to not take taxis to tour the area. They ended up out in the desert with the taxi surrounded by men with guns. The couple had to pay $200 to be taken back to the ship. If the captain gives a warning not to do something, it’s smart to believe him. He’s at that port on a regular schedule. He knows what he’s talking about.

2nd to last story is similar to the Korean Sewol ferry incident from few years ago. Captain told everyone to not leave their cabins and he was later seen escaping first with a regular civilian outfit. Rescue time was further delayed when the person overseeing the operation went MIA on shift and they could only start rescue with his approval. He was later found to be getting plastic surgery done while on shift. These people got off without any real punishment btw

"The ship was on fire." It was an easily containable engine room fire. However, an engine is an engine. As someone who rebuilt the burned engine on a Falcon, the electronics are the first to go. If the plug wires go, then that means the engine stalls. If the engine on a cruise ship stalls, the only usable piece of machinery is the pressurized water hose. The real danger was dehydration from the heat. Edit: Captain Schettino.

In 2019 I was on a Western Caribbean Disney cruise, sailing almost the same exact itinerary as the Royal Caribbean Symphony of the Seas, aka the largest cruise ship in the world; we could often see the other ship sailing alongside us as we were stopping at pretty much the same ports. At one port word started going around that a passenger had fallen overboard and died on the Symphony. I was absolutely shocked, but when I googled it I found out that cruisers going overboard is an alarmingly common occurrence, especially on Carnival & Royal Caribbean cruises. Those cruise ships tend to have a lot of different bars & a lack of tech for detecting overboard passengers, so it is unfortunately a pervasive problem.
