**Once in a village nestled among the rolling hills of Kalinga**, there lived a family whose eyes held a secret. Their irises shimmered like the midnight sky, a deep, enchanting hue that set them apart from their neighbors. The villagers whispered about them, casting wary glances whenever the family passed by. For in this land, where superstitions clung to every shadow, such eyes were considered an omen-a curse.
The family's name was **Drevich**, and they had lived in the village for generations. Their ancestors had tilled the fertile soil, tended to the sacred groves, and danced under the moonlight during harvest festivals. But now, their fate hung in the balance, teetering on the edge of acceptance and exile.
**It all began with little Yelena**, the youngest of the Drevich clan. Her eyes sparkled like sapphires, and her laughter echoed through the meadows. She loved to chase butterflies, her azure gaze following their delicate wings as they flitted among the wildflowers. But the villagers watched her with suspicion, their own eyes narrowing into slits.
**One fateful day**, the village council gathered in the ancient oak hall-the heart of their community. The elders sat in a solemn circle, their beards white as snow, their eyes as sharp as falcon talons. The headman, old Ivan, cleared his throat and addressed the assembly.
"**Fellow villagers**, we must face the truth. The Drevich family harbors a curse-a curse that threatens our crops, our cattle, and our very souls. Their eyes, like pools of midnight, bring misfortune upon us. We cannot ignore this any longer."
The villagers murmured in agreement, their gazes shifting toward the Drevich homestead. The family stood there, heads held high, their eyes unyielding. Yelena clung to her mother's skirt, her eyes wide with innocence.
"**We have but one choice**," Ivan continued. "**The Drevich family must leave our village. Their black-eyed child is a harbinger of doom. We cannot risk our prosperity for sentimentality. Let them go to the hills, where the spirits dwell. Perhaps there, they will find solace."**
And so, the decree was passed. The Drevich family packed their meager belongings-a few clay pots, a woolen blanket, and a wooden flute. Tears welled in Yelena's eyes as she hugged her beloved black dog, Fugtong. The villagers watched from a distance, their hearts heavy with both fear and relief.
**The Dreviches wandered beyond the village**, climbing the hills until they reached a secluded glade. There, beneath the ancient oak tree, they made their new home. Yelena's eyes still sparkled, but now they held a hint of sadness. Fugtong, loyal and fierce, guarded their hearth, his ebony fur blending with the shadows.
**Life in exile was hard**, yet the Dreviches persevered. They planted crops, sang songs, and told stories by the fire. Yelena grew into a young woman, her eyes never losing their mysterious allure. And Fugtong, ever watchful, kept the malevolent spirits at bay.
One moonless night, a storm swept across the hills. The wind howled, and rain lashed against their humble dwelling. Yelena sat by the hearth, her eyes fixed on the flames. Suddenly, a knock echoed through the darkness-a hollow, desperate sound.
*"Who could it be?"* Yelena wondered aloud. She opened the door, and there stood her parents, soaked and trembling. Their eyes held a mix of fear and wonder.
"**Yelena**," her mother whispered, "**we were wrong. Fugtong saved us. He fought off a Tangob-an evil spirit that sought to harm you. Our black-eyed protector."**
Yelena's heart swelled with pride. She embraced her parents, tears mingling with raindrops. And Fugtong, his eyes gleaming like polished obsidian, lay by the hearth, content.
**Word spread through the hills**, and soon the villagers came to visit. They saw Fugtong's bravery, witnessed Yelena's love for her family, and realized that perhaps their superstitions had blinded them. The Dreviches were welcomed back, their eyes no longer a curse but a testament to courage and loyalty.
And so, the village rejoiced, celebrating their reunion with music, dance, and laughter. Yelena danced with Fugtong by her side, her eyes reflecting the joy of a thousand stars. The black dog had become a legend-a guardian who defied fate and brought light to the darkest corners of their hearts.
**From that day forward**, the Drevich family thrived, their eyes a reminder that sometimes, the most magical things are hidden in
