OK Guys, it's time to take a look at the game last night between the Florida Panthers and the New York Rangers.. The Panthers won this game by a final score of 2-1, this victory cemented themselves into the Stanley Cup Finals for a 2nd year in a row. Will the Florida Panthers win the Cup? I guess were gonna have to wait and see... But one thing's for sure, with guys like Matthew Tkachuk and Sam Bennett.. They are MADE for this kind of hockey..

Panthers fan here. They play that old style of physical hockey. Their forecheck leads to open ice which is exactly what it takes in a playoff series. Love this team. Bennet and Tkachuk have landed in my top 5 players. Forsling plays actual defense and found as offensive side to his game as of late. Ekblad is the only weak link if you search for any flaws. Cats have arguably the best 4th line in the NHL as well.

I think the way the Panthers behaved as this series was locked up shows both their resolve and their real buy-in, more than the fifty times Tkachuk said it verbally in his interview. Say what you will about the trophy touching curse or whatever, and that being why none of the guys touched it, but I think it shows a very different thing about this team: they expected this. The ECF was not some far-fetched goal like last year's Cinderella run, but the bare minimum on their quest for vengeance all of this season. There is no true celebration for them until they get to lift that holy grail for themselves. Four wins remain, and they're the hardest four wins to get in all of hockey. No matter the result, as a Cats fan, I couldn't be happier with this recent sustained success by the organization. For now, though, I'm just looking forward to game 6 of the WCF tonight.

Panthers do not have visible weaknesses. Before the play-offs I thought the 4th line was a bit unsettled and the third defensive pairing was a bit weak, but NOOOO, these did not turn out to be weaknesses at all. Go Panthers!

Cousins, Gadovich and Lomberg could be a line on any other team but the depth here has kept them in and out of the lineup. Biggest difference from last year which I thought relied too much on Chucky and Bob to steal them games. Bennett has been great since his first game with the Panthers. Lundell stepping up when he needs to be. Forsling, best d man on the Cats roster is also a driving engine for them. Will be a fun and entertaining finals no matter who they play

Of all 4 teams in these semifinals, New York had the youngest least experienced overall defense. Oilers & Stars have some pretty seriously seasoned beasts with a bit more know-how to resist that Panthers pounding. Should be a very interesting match-up.

President's Cup jinx hits once again

There is no jinx, this is silly. Let me explain... Did the President Trophy winner win the Stanley Cup? This is a yes or no question. It's a 50/50 framing. It's completely erroneous. It makes you think it's bizarre the answer is consistently no. In reality the NHL playoffs have 16 teams. 16!!! Even if you're one of the favourites, your odds of winning the cup are still low (1/16). If the president trophy winner captured the cup any more frequently than every 16th year, then we could indisputably conclude that winning the trophy is a good omen that increases your odds, not a jinx. Sure, they're favourites so practically their odds to win should be higher than 1/16. How much higher though, honestly? 1/12? 1/10? How about twice as likely (1/8)? Still absolutely not even close to the "yes or no" framing. Furthermore, these are odds and not patterns. You could see a longer streak of president trophy fails followed up by multiple successes. During the losing streak you'd have jinx talk, then during the success people would forget about it. Odds does not mean predictable. We've only had a streak of failures since 2013. This is reasonable and predictable if you frame the topic correctly. From 1998-2002 we had it happen 3 times in 4 seasons, which is quite remarkable! Mathematically, if it didn't happen again from 2002 until 2044 it still would have meant being a president trophy winner increased your odds at the cup! And we've had it happen twice already.
