Totally agree with you about the ridiculous pricing at thrift shops. Even here where I live in Canada, the prices are getting INSANE! Sometimes items are very close to the retail price if you were buying the item at a sale. And some shops here are very upset with re-sellers - one shop I know of won't even sell to you if they know you're a re-seller (unbelievable but true, crazy right?). I agree with you, they shouldn't care about the shopper's motivations.
@THEJODEDESAESTHETIC5 ай бұрын
A customer is a customer. What one chooses to do with items purchased afterwards is none of their business. I'm so tired of re-sellers getting a bad rap. I become a re-seller when I was a new mum at home with my baby, and then a single mum. The work that goes into re-selling is not a joke. It's a legit business.

I agree too jo. Im a reseller and and i also op shop for myself because i love it. Ive been struggling with the prices. Vinnies where i am is the worst. I found a decuba fake leather crossbody bag marked at $50 (decuba has it on their website on clearance for $9). Also found a ted baker sweater with multiple holes in the sweater and shrunken for $80 (obviously the op shop old ladies saw the label and marked it up). And for some reason the vinnies around me no long have tag sales (like 50% off blue tags etc) anymore. I may as well go to a westfield if i want to spend that much. I refuse to pay those prices). Its my opinion that they would sell more if they made it cheaper. Now months later i go back to a shop and they still have the same stock on the shelves because its overpriced. I would love a video with you discussing this topic more!

Loved your rant! Here in British Columbia Canada Value Village has opened 2 “boutique shops” where they sell what they consider vintage or trendy or designer at outrageous prices. Therefore the regular stores are left with the cheap stuff. I refuse to pay these prices! The charity shops are also asking too much for their donated items, it’s just taken some of the fun out of looking for that hidden jewell. I’m going to be shopping my closet much more now. ❤ the black dress, white dress, leopard print blouse, all great on you, cute styling. The coat shape is fabulous, but if scratchy It’s a no for me.

Exactly! If charity stores are gonna charge vintage /preloved boutique prices than they had better start curating their stock and only keep good labels. If one has to look through all the crap to find one special gem, you can't charge high prices. They can't have it both ways. Thank you lovely ❤️

Great finds and righteous rant! I am with you on boycotting the high prices. I am lucky to live in a small town that so far keeps the prices very reasonable. One place even has a 75 percent off day occasionally on their already low prices as they get so many donations and as a thankyou and to get inventory moving they slash prices. They are also sensitive to low income customers.

I feel like that’s why smaller towns/regional town opshops are better. I have a Salvos in my town and it’s like a warehouse, they have set prices so trousers are $7, baby clothes $1 ect. I go every Tuesday when my son is at daycare and they are constantly putting out new clothes and I buy something every week. It’s all clean, good quality. Although, there’s a town near me that is very touristy and there’s a girl who owns a little homewares boutique there, she comes into my town weekly and buys things from that salvos and then puts it in her boutique for boutique prices and that makes me sooooo annoyed! I’m currently unemployed, pregnant with a toddler so opshopping is all I can afford!

Thrift stores do worry too much about resellers. For some reason they seem to think they are in competition with resellers. I also notice when a person picks up a piece of clothing and can’t think of how to style, then the piece becomes ugly or all these things are wrong with the item. Just admit you don’t know how to style the piece or pieces.

I agree with you on both points!

Yep why spend $10 on a top at Kmart when you can buy the same top in vinnies for $15 and used 😂😂😂 Prices are so stupid . I have a few I know are well priced others I look and walk out

Ha! Exactly! Stupid is right! 🤣

Prices go up because they know some people will buy this anyway. People will buy it at that price from resellers so why wouldn't they buy it in a second hand, trifting place? You pay 8 dollar for a piece and you sell it for 80. They get it for free and sell it for 8. Who's the stupud one? The people working in many of our triftstores in my country are people who have problems finding a job for all sort of reasoms. The shops hire them and pay their salary with the money they makes from their sales. They work there for a year so the can get some experience. I don't see the problem.

There's a big difference between buying from a re-seller/vintage store and buying from a thrift store. A re-seller has spent countless hours to find/purchase a curated collection of clothing to sell. The work involved in reselling is huge. Mending, photographing, listing, posting every single piece. A thrift store gets truck loads of apparel donated and dropped off. Shopping thrift and shopping from a re-seller is a completely different experience, therefore pricing should differ. Re-selling is a legitimate business and should be respected not frowned upon.

Everytime I go to vinnies or salvos I see one of the sales assistants grabbing all the good items for themselves:(
@THEJODEDESAESTHETIC6 ай бұрын
This is partly the reason why treasures are so scarce. I wonder if staff pay for the items or not...?🤷♀️
@Ceen5116 ай бұрын
The ones ive seen haven’t paid. They just let the person at the cash register know that they’re taking the items 🙄

It' charity. They should be able to charge what people will pay for the more pricey labels. Rather the money go to them than the re-sellers.
