I think he meant he was surprised he got the opportunity to go to Cambridge 'but decided not to'. Because not a lot of people would turn that down as he assumed. It's like if you got A*s in everything and went to college to study Fine Art and someone says "I heard you got all A*s in school" you might take that the wrong way thinking they're assuming you wasted a great opportunity to do Fine Art when you could have been a doctor, engineer etc. He may have been worried Stormzy would see it as "You could have went to Cambridge but decided to come an artist".
