This was an amazing tutorial, super helpful. When you used the sharpen tool you can actually see the camera man reflected in her eyes, very cool.

Hard to say! Check your foreground/background colors are pure black and white, make sure your blend mode is set to "normal", and your opacity and fill are at 100%.
