The street food you went to is Jalan Alor - where tourist like you guys being ripped off. Normal street price for a plate of mee goreng would never be more than RM7! Here are some tips about food: 1. For authentic malay food like nasi lemak, always go to Kampung Baru. 2. For authentic Indian food, try Brickfields area. 3. For chinese food, Petaling Street provide better options. 4. Try our national drink of Teh Tarik - Available at any malay or indian restaurant. The best and most authentic version is always at any 'mamak' (Indian muslim) restaurant. To be frank, a set of street meal (a plate of food and a glass of drink) by Malaysian standard could never be more than 2 British Pound!

U should bargain half of the price suggested for the toy, the price is only between rm10 to rm15. Yes, the seller is not local but an illegel foreigner, don't ever buy fr them. U must know how to recognize them fr our local people. They are fr Thailand, Bangladesh, India, Parkistan, Cambodia, Indonesia,The Philippines & a few other countries.

You should go to Kampung Baru for more authentic food. One of the most popular Nasi Lemak in KL is there, Look for Nasi Lemak Wanjo. You should also try Nasi Kerabu and Nasi Dagang there, authentic dish originally from east coast states of Peninsular Malaysia, Kelantan and Terengganu. The food are available from breakfast to nite time. Learn more about Kampung Baru, it is one of a kind.

Nasi Lemak is usually a Breakfast thing. However, you can still find it in the restaurants in the shopping malls if you really want it. An easy choice would be "Madam Kwan'' (a famous rest. in a few Malls in KL) Nasi Lemak w curry chicken. I saw people below commented "Nasi Lemak Wanjo" is also a good choice but you might have to travel a little bit to Kampung Baru.

First off, i should say that that was not a night market and not even a place where a local would go for a meal. If you saw locals there, it could have been one of those rare occasions or they brought a friend from out of country or they were not Malaysians (but you thought they were). That place is a tourist trap, really. Secondly, when i heard the Grab driver suggest "nasi lemak" i was like, "C'mon, not at that time of day." It's more of a breakfast dish, maybe served for lunch too in some places, but later in the day it's harder to find. Possible, but you have to know where to go. And then it was kinda funny when Lucy talked about the rice in the hotel, cooked in coconut milk but she didn't realize that she was describing "nasi lemak" 😂 Yes, that's what "nasi lemak" is, in contrast to what the Grab driver said: "fatty rice" - it makes me wonder if the driver was a local or not. Or just didn't know how "nasi lemak" is made. Thirdly, that place is not far from LalaPort, just a walking distance away, but i guess with an infant in tow walking a half an hour over terrain not friendly to baby carriages is out of the question. Which brings me to my final point.... If you wish to experience a real night market, you'll have to go to the one in Taman Connaught, Cheras. However, with a baby carriage that could be quite a challenge if not near impossible. But if somehow you find a way to bring Coda minus the carriage, go there. It's open on Wednesday nights. "Pasar malam" or night markets are open on different days at different locations, and they each have its own character and offerings. Enquire with your local guide which one or ones you might visit as per your convenience. Enjoy!

Nah man, locals don't go there anymore because the prices are a rip-off. And most of the workers there are foreign and will try and get u to buy stuff (I mean their Malaysian bosses tell them to do it lol). But Malaysians in general are too polite to do that kind of stuff. If u go to where locals go, the vibe is way more chill and a lot less chaotic and should be 2-3 times cheaper than this place (Jalan Alor)

The char kuey teow while delicious, surprised us bc they put clams in it. My 3 kids don’t like clams so i learned to order it without 👌. Lalaport is in Pudu where there are so many kopitiams (Chinese coffee shops) + hawkers centers. The hainan kopi they serve would be much more malay than the lalaport mall coffee you got and it’s strong, delicious and only $1. We looked fwd to coffee in pudu every morn. We also had pork buns, kaya toast w/ soft boiled egg, apam balik (peanut pancake), and pinapple tarts, and char suey mee + curry mee while staying in pudu on different morns, all delicious chinese malay breakfast offerings in hawker centers.. We never went to jalan alor bc it’s designed for tourists, more touristy prices…not where locals eat bc of prices. We also stayed in kampung baru and had some amazing malay foods such as roti canai, nasi lemak, nasi campur, ayam sate, pulut mangaa + manga kerabu. All so delicious. For eg, the pulut mangaa you got (mango sticky rice) was 6 ringgit in kampung baru but i believe you paid $15 myr on jalan alor. So if you go bk, definitely try kampung baru or pudu restaurants + street food. I love malay food + can’t wait to go back!

hi Lucy and George.....i just observed in your video particularly at 11:32 (timestamp of your vid) when you were sitting waiting for your food in Alor st, I think Lucy looks like Scarlet Johannson, Hollywood actress who portrayed the black widow in the avengers... George is a very lucky guy because Lucy is a beautiful woman and at the same time a very good cook, specially her favorite Filipino dish sinigang.... I know that you are in Kuala Lumpur right now, and you are correct that not many British visit Malaysia that frequently, unlike neighbor countries Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, but I assure you that Malaysia is an awesome country.... you can visit the batu caves just outside Kuala Lumpur, you can either get a grab taxi going there or experience riding their regular train, they used token coins instead of a card like in the Philippines.... in batu cave, you will feel the nature at its best because beneath the long colorful stairs there is a temple inside the mountain cave, and you will feel too the culture of the Indians, who have a great influence in the Malaysian culture.... but do mind the monkeys, do not show any food or koda"s stroller, because these monkeys are professional grabbers, I kid you not... just beware OK... in Alor Street food, I usually get chicken satay with peanut sauce, and also the crispy pork fried rice..... you may try it also if you like.. you can visit Malaysia museum too if your time there permits you, have a glimpse of the Malay culture, and cute Koda will enjoy there as well.. see you soon when you get back in BGC taguig... enjoy Malaysia Lucy, George and cute Koda... ❤
