My recurring nightmare is having a horror show of a game and then appearing in a pete thumbnail labelled 'Noob' with a big arrow.

Then don't play like a noob bro 😂😂😂🤟🤟🤟
@tomw605611 сағат бұрын
I think you're partially right with the noob logic. The corner capping comes from the idea that the cap needs to be "protected" and they figure the best way to protect it is to bury it in a corner. Noobs love bonuses too, so iceland also gets them an easy bonus. Noob logic prizes generation above everything. They don't understand that Troop Count = Generation x time - Battle Loses, and don't value the second half of that equation. This is why they start fights to blindly take bonuses. To them, the cap is +2, they totally ignore the extra defense die. The defensive ability of the cap lowers battle loses the more you stack on it. An experienced player knows putting a cap at a defensible border is maximizing cap utility, as is generally cap stacking. The noob thinks putting a cap in the open is leaving it open to attack. This is why you also see that dumb move where a noob will corner cap, then put most of their troops forward off cap on a 1-point. They think they're "defending the cap better" because it's exact location is hidden and if someone wants to break them, they might miss the cap. This is how they think, they assume all other players will aggressively break their bonuses (even in prog) because this is what they would do. They do not understand the troop count formula. I feel like that troop count formula is Risk's equivalent of the Card Advantage concept in MtG. It's an obvious truism that better players know intuitively, but it just goes over the head of bad players.

A troop in hand is worth two in the bush
@thomasanderson84469 сағат бұрын
Another aspect of the Iceland capper and noobs: they need a bonus. Look how often when a noob is allowed to get strong, they becomes focused on taking and holding bonuses, even in progressive and even when the cards far outweigh the bonuses. It's a quick and easy bonus meaning, in that sort of mindset, they have an advantage. It's also related to 'I should loose troops and piss off everyone to keep my advantage by not letting them have smaller bonuses than I have.'
@VibrantLivingLists5 сағат бұрын
The amount of times I break their lowest generating bonus (usually 3-4 troops) to get a card when it’s 100+ sets and they crack it and suicide into me is ridiculous.
@anoldlady811 сағат бұрын
Green said gg because they thought you fortified everything off cap the turn prior
@seansoccer1009 сағат бұрын
Ohhhhhhhh. Makes sense. Green thought maybe Pete stepped off?
@AaAa-uq5tp10 сағат бұрын
I actually had the chance to ask the question to a noob that joined Kylted's discord why he capped in iceland. The reason is that they see the cap as something they need to protect. Imagine someone wanted to take something from you, you would try to keep it away from the other person. The furthest away they can keep the cap is in pockets/corners. Now it's easy to see why that would be a bad idea if you think 2 or 3 steps ahead but these are newer players and they aren't able to do that so when you look at it this way at least it makes sense psychologically.
@TheKillPeteStrategy9 сағат бұрын
Exactly. I completely understand why people think it's a good idea.
@MrFredstt24 минут бұрын
When I was a noob Iceland always seemed attractive bc it felt out of the way, easy bonus, and just something no one would care about and leave you alone then you build and take over lol

When you're a beginner, it's not what can I defend, but where can I hide. I don't want to be in the middle of all the fights with everyone else.

The middle is WAY safer
@VibrantLivingLists5 сағат бұрын
@@TheKillPeteStrategyif needed to play for 2nd it’s easier to take a card and pass in the middle vs trying to do it on edge where stronger players are going around to tighten the noose on other players

It is rather impressive how well you play the 1vs1 endgame. Green was good, but I think he underestimated you. I can imagine he was a little shocked to discover 2 30 caps at the end.
@TheKillPeteStrategy9 сағат бұрын
To be fair the only reason this was possible at all is they missed a set on 4, but always play to your outs!
@silbertmcg3 сағат бұрын
Noob logic is that it's best to start in a corner and work your way out. I think it's really just that simple. You don't learn the flaw in that logic until you've played a bit more

Had my first hacker today. Went from 6 troops on a spot with 170 sets to having over 360. They thought they had me early when heads up but didn’t realise I had been cap stack while they went to war and had like 700 troops on cap. Was getting the upper hand back on them and then all of a sudden game over.

This is my champion ! And black "expert" played like a beginner. And green "beginner" played like an expert.
@toddyoung9135 сағат бұрын
Pete comes at cap position from someone with the skills to win the game. A beginner comes from it from the point of trying to avoid being killed in the early game. A two point guard on a +2 means generally you are not worth breaking and killing. So if you turtle in the corner you get probably 2nd-4th as opposed to 5-6th.

you don't have to explain to me why noobs like iceland. I totally get it. What I'm doing with the show is trying to show more people why it's terrible

As an ex-elite noobie allow me to explain.... We are almost guided to play in the classic map against AI at the beginning and slowly but surely you would reach a conclusion rule for the game with little skill and aggressive AI it's simple (no Australia no win) So after awhile you say to your self I am now dominant against AI and can win against the expert level... I am ready to go online Suddenly you enter a map that you have no previous access to and automatically your brain is thinking where is the Australia of this map... Then you found Iceland... And bingo this is where I can hide have my small bounce and wait till they kill each other till I get second or first if I am lucky

Black went last. Capped on a two. Looking at the initial spawn of black, what was objectively better?

The two in Jordan is objectively better. But we only see half of blacks spawns so it's just as likely as not he had an even better choice than that.

14:41 why not steal blues cap and cap stack? I realize that greens coming from the east but it give black and yellow chances to hit not you.
@TheKillPeteStrategy4 сағат бұрын
Blue's cap here has six troops on it. I don't see what starting a war I can't remotely finish does to advantage me. It disadvantages blue, and is probably really good for yellow and green long term

I would only cap in Iceland if a few rare🎉 conditions were in place, first an iceberg in Scotland or iceland, 2nd if someone then caps in London, and 3rd there is a botted player whose cap I can see and steal elsewhere. But no, apart from trying to gain unfair advantage from it, its the worst and really hard to win

Im starting to notice that for a lil while now, that you make certain moves to vasically throw the game even though you could win otherwise a different way. (This happens in certain games wich are inpossible to reference atm) I could be getting this wrong, and im just being a fool, but its as if your testing these players instead of going for the win. Ontop of that your opting for riskier tactics out of the sheer interest in tactically leaening from your opponent over winning, maybe even purposfully getting yourself in a more difficult position, in wich you can overcome in a different way, or just to merely challenge yourself, as well as teach the other players the mistakes theyre making yet giving them a chance to learn themselves, all at the cost of possibly loosing the game. And if ya dont, well i guess thats just better content. I mean i guess thats just game theory, even at the top, you can still lateraly evolve.
@TheKillPeteStrategy6 сағат бұрын
I think I can say it simply: I'm not willing to play a game for 3 hours just to win it. I'd rather take massive risks to win faster or lose, but either way make a way more interesting show.
