Full Install of the SS Silverado bumper on my 2004 RCSB 4x4. I tried to make this video very detailed. I used a mixture of Gorilla 30lb double sided tape, stainless steal bolts, and two of my own brackets. The overall cost of this modification wasn't too bad. The paint was the worst part. You could easily do this modification in one weekend, if you had all the parts. This took me a few hours a day, for multiple days to complete. I am very picky with my work and filming/prep time for all the videos definitely adds a lot of time to my work. I hope you enjoy the video, and that it helps you out! If you have any questions put them in the comments below. Please subscribe, and thanks for watching!
In a newer video I smashed this bumper drifting in the snow. I went with a 2nd ebay bumper cover, OEM Air ducts (honeycomb), and the Kdesignswings Honeycomb center grill. now the whole front is matching honeycomb, and is alot cleaner! the old eBay Air ducts i painted, got rock chips really fast and looked terrible.

Mounting Hardware
The two bolts on the ends, four bolts in total, were 3/8in or (9mm). The small bolts holding the air ducts on, two mounting point above the air ducts, and the bolt I used to hold the top pad down from bubbling, twelve bolts in total, were 1/4in or (6mm). The bolts I used for my two steel brackets, four in total, were 10mm or pretty close to 3/8in. I would also recommend either getting lock nuts, or regular nuts with lock washers like I did. Just to prevent them from vibrating off. Also spend the few extra bucks for stainless steel, so it won't rust and become an eye sore.

@@WesleyG8857 oh cool! Only a state away from me. (Fort wayne, IN). What kind of audio do you do? Maybe you can tell me why my kicker hideaway is absolutely garbage 😅 (46HS10) can barely even tell its on. But I did do 120sq ft of dynomate into the singlecab, that made a tremendous difference with the exhaust noise! I'm adding more dynaliner soon, as the roll cage makes the floor vibrate lol.
@WesleyG8857
@WesleyG8857 Жыл бұрын
@@TheKingCoopa Yeah any sound deadening material definitely helps with road noise, or any noise that tries to come in the cab, and it mainly adds rigidity to the sheet metal so it doesn't rattle anymore. As far as the kicker, well it's a kicker. I'm not gonna lie, I've seen some kickers really thump, but it's personally not something I'm reaching for unless it's all I can get. I deal with Kenwood pretty exclusively, and I've fallen in love with them. I'm a Rockford Fosgate guy but you'll pay for that lol. I'm actually doing a 5 channel amp, new head unit, and two 12" subs in my '06 sentra at the moment, all from the Kenwood Excel line, which is good. For a hideaway type of sub, in my experience I've been EXTREMELY impressed with a couple such as KSC-PSW8, or if you want something that'll go behind your seat or behind your center console, then P-XW1002B is a great model that I've been impressed with. That's just my two cents. Obviously check the small things like input speaker wires being out of phase because that will mess you all up. I mean from what I see, that sub you have should put out some pretty decent noise, but it's also an extremely compact design. I just have no experience with it to really tell you how it should sound.
@TheKingCoopa
@TheKingCoopa Жыл бұрын
Yea, my roll cage has 6 mounting point, 4 to the frame and 2 to the cab. Those 2 to the cab transfers alot of vibrations to the floor. So im hoping the dynaliner ontop of the dynomate makes a big difference. Plus I still have to install the new carpet ontop of that. I've never been huge into audio, I just like something simple and clean. But ill check out the Kenwood one, thanks for the info! I just went with the kicker because thats what my local audio shop had in stock and they hyped it up. But with my cage and nitrous bottle in the cab, im pretty limited on room. So the hideaway can slide under the passanger seat, which works out perfect. Sounds like your sentra is gonna be hooked up and bumping haha 👌 thanks for all the info!!

Anyways I'm glad I stumbled upon your channel, the work truck is seriously my dream truck. I had a 95 silverado for 1st vehicle lifted it 6.5" did everything you can do to that platform, sold it to a family friend and got a brand new, sort of 2006 silverado tricked that out, then I became an opiate addict plus have a chronic problem so the past 12 years were a complete waste. Sounds like a real rough start, but im glad you turning things around. 2 years clean is awesome man! Definitely an accomplishment. Can't go wrong with the 03-07classic gm platform. Pretty reliable, easy to fix (in my opinion), plus most have the LS motor which is a really great platform and can take insane amounts of abuse. You can find alot on marketplace for $4k-6k in nice condition. Just depends on the miles. Im sure if you set a goal and slowly start working twords it, you will get one! And thanks for the compliment, the truck has changed alot since this video. I went lower on coilovers, did a quadrasteer widebody, and currently finishing up a built 6.0/4l80e/AWD swap with nitrous. Any tips/pointers on how to do an SS bumper conversion on a 2500HD? I assume I need to add a 1500 bumper cap and move the bumper up about 2" using 1500 brackets. What am I missing. It would be really great if the SS cover would fit the 2500 bumper, but i suspect it wont...
@TheKingCoopa
@TheKingCoopa 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, you are correct. The HD bumpers are larger, and the SS bumper cover won't fit directly over the stock HD bumper. There are a few things you need to do, which you know most of them. 1. Remove the bottom valance (the plastic bottom part of the bumper) 2. Switch the top pad out for the 1500, which is shorter, so the SS cover can slide over the bumper. You can run it like that, but you will have a weird gap between the grill/headlights and the SS bumper. 3. To fix the gap, you could try the 1500 brackets. I can't garentee those will bolt right up, and fix the gap. Havnt done much research on it. Or i've seen some guys run longer grade 8 bolts, and put a spacer between the brackets and bumper. Not the most structural, but it works. I'd definitely look into the 1500 brackets. I hope that helps, but you're already on the right track!

How hard would this be to do to a 2006 gmc i want the ss front end and rear bumper but i think i remember seeing the bumper wont match cuz the ss has special bed corners
@TheKingCoopa
@TheKingCoopa 3 жыл бұрын
Since you have a gmc, its gonna be a little different. It all comes down to how nice you want it to look, how much time and money you want to spend. As for the gmc/silverado all the cabs and beds are the exact same. They only made the SS in the silverado package. So the difference between the base silverado/gmc and the SS, is the SS has body cladding down the bed and cab at the bottom. Its straight and sticks out a little farther. (I do not have the body cladding, notice the little ripple at the bottom of the bed/cab, easiest way to tell) You might beable to buy a used set of body cladding off someone locally or on Facebook pages/marketplace. Or a company like streetconcept1 makes aftermarket cladding for all cab sizes, but it isn't cheap! For the rear bumper, the SS bumper is just a cover, similar to the front. So you will use your existing metal bumper, and the ss bumper cover will slide right over the top of your factory bumper. Not sure if you have to remove the black caps or not. For the front bumper, there are a few companies that make an ss style bumper for the gmc, but they are kinda hard to find. Again, id look at streetconcept1, if they have one. But if your wanting to go the full SS clone route, then you will have to change your gmc front end to a chevy front end. So that would need new silverado fenders, hood, grill, headlights, and bumper. That would be pretty expensive, so not sure if thats worth your time, unless you want the full clone. Hope that all helps, let me know how your swap goes 🤘

Hey, this is actually my 2nd SS bumper. I smashed the first one doing doughnuts in the snow, in a different KZbin video 😅😅. The 2nd one i went with honey comb lower grill, and oem air ducts. The only complaint I have from my original SS bumper/this video, is I would spend the extra money and get oem air ducts. The cheap ebay air ducts need painted, and they got rock chips SO fast, and started pealing like crazy. The oem air ducts are injection mounded that silver. So they will never change color.

Hey, sorry for the late reply, and that sucks. Yes, you can use a stock Silverado bumper, and SS cover. Only difference from mine, is I don't have the factory SS brackets, and its an eBay cover, not a "Real" OEM SS cover. If you do buy another factory bumper, just make sure its for a 1500, and a Silverado, not a GMC.

Hey bro, I am planning to change the front of my 00 Chevy to 07, do you think that I can reuse the original bumper and just make a cut, so the grill fits, and put the ss bumper as you did ? Thank you for your help!
@TheKingCoopa
@TheKingCoopa 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, that is a good question. So for the traditional cateye front end swap you need: hood, front fenders, grill, headlights, headlight supports, front bumper and bumper brackets. For the SS bumper install, you would remove the bottom valance (plastic) and keep the top plastic pad, and the ss bumper cover would slide right over the top. Since your doing the front end swap but wanting to keep your 00 bumper the concept is still the same. You will still need a top pad on your bumper to support the ss cover. the 99-02 top pads have those tabs that curve up on both sides, to contour to the shorter fenders. Those tabs would have to be trimmed off. Will the 03-07 ss bumper then slide over your 00 bumper and top pad? I have no idea. I'd assume so. You might have to change to a 03-07 top pad, but then will that top pad mount/clip in to your 00 bumper? Also not sure. Its definitely worth a shot. Anything is possible if you put your mind to it. Worst case scenario you could buy the ss cover, trim your top pad an see if it fits, and looks right. It might slide over, but it might look awkward or have bad gaps. Not sure, ive never messed around with the 99-02 trucks. But if it fits then great! If not, id recommend looking for an 03-07 1500 front bumper, on Facebook marketplace, Craigslist, or even the junkyard should have alot of them. Just depends on how nice the Condition and how much you wanna spend. Hope that helps you out. Im not an expert with the 99-02 trucks. They are very similar, but still have alot of things different to the 03-07 trucks

Hey, the SS bumper cover is pushed up tight against the original metal bumper. So it really only protrudes the thickness of the SS cover. I'd guess it sticks out 1/4in farther than the metal bumper, noting to really worry about.

What was in your lowering kit? I know you can lower it several ways and how well does it ride? I have a crew cab I'm wanting to lower as well
@TheKingCoopa
@TheKingCoopa 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, I have a 2/4 Mcgaughys lowering kit. I think it was around 450$. but that includes 2in drop spindles up front. For the rear: longer shackles and a dropped front leaf mount. Which both have two different adjustment holes for different heights in the rear. You might need different shocks for the rear, I'm still utilizing stock shocks. You will also need to move the rear bump stop up. It sits on a bracket connected to the frame, just unbolt the bracket, and move your bump stop up directly onto the frame. So you don't bottom out easily. I love my kit, good quality and was too hard. The only bad part, for the driver side front leaf mount, in the rear, you will most likely have to drop the gas tank to slide the mounting bolts on the inside of the frame. So I changed my fuel pump while I was there. Other than that, I love it. rides just like normal. This winter, I will be going to a 4/6 drop, I just want to close the fender gap. but I'll also be doing an underbed notch (larger than a C notch) since I still use it as a work truck, and just in case I wanna go lower in the future. Then to top it off, I'm gonna do a quadrasteer bed swap, and widen the rear rims 3in to run a fat back tire. Hope that all helps. You can always call up Mcgaughys and tell them what you want, they will tell you exactly what you need.

The standard 2/4 or 4/6 drop you will keep the lift block. I believe you can remove that for an additional 1-2in drop in the rear, but im not sure if your pinion angle will still be the same. If you go about 4/6 or lower, most kits will have you do a flip kit, which puts the leaf spring on the bottom side of your axle, and you will no longer need that factory lift block
@9502silverado
@9502silverado 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheKingCoopa I appreciate the help, for now I think I'm going to try removing the block add a 3 inch shackle for the rear and swap my leveling keys for lowering keys and see how that sits and rides. I'm also going to measure my pinion angle n adjust it accordingly, if it's way off I may cut my perch pads off and reweld them to the rear end. I had a 4wd s10 I lowered with keys and it rode great. If it needs to be lower then I'll do the flip kit and spindles as well. Thanks for your time and help.

@TheKingCoopa
@TheKingCoopa 4 жыл бұрын
Hey, I tried doing some research for you. I looked on 4-5 different forums, and they all came to the same conclusion. The original SS air ducts were never actually painted, they used injection molding, and the color of the plastic was gery/silver. For mine, I had them professionally painted, and couldn't find a paint code either. So I just showed a picture of an SS to the painter, and told him I wanted that color. He said "I got you" and it turned out really good. I know it doesn't help you much, but if you do find a grey/silver you like, just make sure you use an adhesion promoter to help the paint stick to the plastic really well. Good luck, let me know how it turns out!

I can't guarantee that the factory foglights will still fit. I do know there are a lot of guys that run single or dual pod lights inside each air duct. Just wire them into your fog light harness and it will still work just like normal. I think I seen something about the NNBS fog lights fit a lot better in the air ducts, but don't quote me on that one. @TheKingCoopa
@TheKingCoopa 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I appreciate it! For the 2500hd bumpers, the only real difference is the top pad is like 1.5inches taller than a 1500 top pad. It's the same shape, just taller. So if you still remove the lower plastic, it should fit right over your bumper (I think) but if not, i know for sure you can just buy the 1500 top pad, swap that onto your bumper. But your only problem with that, since the pad is shorter, you will then have a 1.5in gap between your bumper and grill. So you could buy longer bolts and stack some washers to raise your front bumper up, or re adjust your brackets some how. It is definitely do able though, I've seen it done. Just depends how much time you wanna invest and how nice you want it to look. I hope that helps!

The SS bumper cover only weighs a couple pounds. It isn't very heavy. As for the OEM bumper I believe they weigh somewhere around 25lbs. So theoretically you're only adding a like a pound or two with the SS cover, over your OEM bumper. Hope that answered your question.

Just to prevent them from vibrating off. Also spend the few extra bucks for stainless steel, so it won't rust and become an eye sore. Hope that helps, let me know how it goes

How much are the headlights and where did you get them?
@TheKingCoopa
@TheKingCoopa 4 жыл бұрын
Hey! The headlights are from YITAmotor. They are around $240ish. I really like them super simple and clean. They are 90% plug and play. The top two DRL led boards have 2 wires coming out of the housing. I just ran a quick connector into the bottom set. Pretty easy. But the company has a few options, black/chrome housings, black/chrome shrouds, or clear/orange turnsignals. I have the black,black,clear setup. Hope that helps!

Is the actual bumper behind the bumper cover off a base model 1500 bumper? ?
@TheKingCoopa
@TheKingCoopa 4 жыл бұрын
Hey, that is correct. I have a 2004 1500 base model. At the 3:30 mark is when I'm slipping the cover over the factory bumper. All the base models, LT, and LS trucks will have the same factory bumper on the 1500s (besides having fog lights) I think the only difference for the bumpers is between the 1500 and the 2500hds, the 2500s have a taller top pad and mount to the frame a little differently, so I have no idea how it would fit on a 2500hd. Hope that helps you out!

does your truck have the ss claddings too or no?
@TheKingCoopa
@TheKingCoopa 4 жыл бұрын
Hey, no it does not. Easiest way to tell, is that indent or "ripple" at the bottom of the doors and bed. If it had the cladding, the bottom of the body would stick out a tinny bit farther, and it would be perfectly smooth.

Yea, I understand. I honestly wouldn't worry about it too much. Alot of people have done just the bumper swap and they still look really good. It also looks really good with the cladding too. Ive even had a few people say "nice SS". So id say a lot of people dont notice the cladding, or know that real SS's were only extended cabs. There are a few companies out there that sell aftermarket cladding kits around 1k, for crew cabs, and single cabs too. I thought about doing it to mine. I never bought it, because I've been thinking about lowering it a few more inches, swapping to a quadrasteer bed, getting my rear rims widened 3in and running a fat back tire. Idk, not sure yet

Hey, so the brackets I made were just something I whipped up. I didn't really use the factory locations, so you won't beable to buy those exact brackets. You could pickup some sheet metal, then cut/bend them like I did. I know alot of people don't always have the time, space, or tools to make stuff like that. If your wanting the original brackets, you can always try to find some used ones Facebook, or ebay. Or maybe find a wrecked truck to get them off of. Some dealers still carry the oem brackets. They are kinda hard to find, or might have to be ordered. But they are pretty expensive. These part numbers should still be correct. Hope that helps. If your truck is lifted, id go more of a heavy duty metal bumper (expensive though) and if its stock/lowered I think the SS bumper cover would look perfect. Hey, it's been atleast 6 months now since I installed the bumper. It's doing really well. All the mounts are solid, really glad I used stainless steel bolts too. The only issue I've had at all, was with the air ducts. The original SS air ducts wernt painted. The molded plastic was actually that silver color. Original SS air ducts are anywhere from 100$-300$ for one. That's why I bought black ebay specials and got them painted silver. Well I was lazy and ran it through the car wash a few times, and it beat the crap out of the air ducts. Chipping them alot, the bumper is still perfect. So I'll have to get those air ducts repainted eventually. But that's the only issue I've had so far 🤘

I dont think you can fit factory fog light housings inside them. But I know there is alot of people that run pod lights behind, or even run double pod lights inside each air duct. Pretty sure there is an aftermarket company that makes the brackets for them. And if you dont like those, you could always make some brackets and run a 30in light bar in the center gap of the bumper.
