This one looks much better on the video than it did on the picture. It looks bright and vibrant and also a little dirty. I agree that those coils always muck things up.

Yeah the picture is a little dark, sorry about that! Someday I'll have real lighting to do the paintings more justice. Perhaps next month's Patreon money will go toward that :) Really glad to hear you liked it!

I think you made the right choice painting the "neck" orange. In the video it really looks like that's the part of the body that extends into the head. Nice work :)
@TheKingofAverage6 жыл бұрын
Whew! I debated so much on that! Glad to hear I'm not alone in thinking it wasn't hair. I'd be really odd for the hair to "turn inward" right after the head like that.

Nice! I JUST purchased Calvary Brown and have yet to use it. Happy to see how it looks on a larger model.

Oh awesome! It's a base color that darkens and highlights really well. Always happy to pull it out!

I also have been using Averland Sunset quite a bit. Picked that up a few weeks ago and it looks great straight out of the bottle and takes a wash really well too.

Oh yeah for sure, and it's a nice, unique yellow as well and more of a natural color than bright yellow.

Love the job you did on this one. Rougher highlights blended with a wash really works well on anything organic. Hard for something to look alive when its perfect, nature is imperfection done perfectly.
@TheKingofAverage6 жыл бұрын
Well shoot I can paint imperfectly like nobody's business :D Seriously though, really glad you liked it! I agree as well. For me, polishing up the highlights with a edge highlight on the scales was out of the question.

Looks great! I assume the next vid will feature the new brushes? :). Watching you paint the twists and turns of the snake sculpt even started to frustrate me a bit. Working the brush in such tight areas - almost blindly - can be aggravating. I am currently painting my legion storm troopers, and getting the black in between the arms and legs is driving me crazy. I think watching you paint the snake’s underside triggered some sort of PTSD. Hah
@TheKingofAverage6 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked the video! You will probably see at least one of the brushes in the next one :) I won't review them until I have a good amount of time with them, but will mention it in videos as I use them as well. Sorry about the PTSD :D It is decidedly "not fun" painting in cramped areas and one of the reasons I believe sculpt design is so important. For Legion, did it come pre assembled? For some reason I thought they were on their sprues. If that's the case you can always prime and paint them directly on the sprue, useful for people holding guns to their chests or snakes with upward curved areas at the bottom ;)

Funfact; "Nure-onna" translates to "wet woman" - always portrayed as a snake with a woman's head, though. She was also supposedly 300 meters in length(!) Nonetheless, stellar job once again! Loving your work, keep it up
@TheKingofAverage6 жыл бұрын
Aha! I knew it was something like that :D Love when the names are descriptive. 300 meteres though?! This must just be a baby even taking into account the size comparison to a clan member. So glad to hear you enjoyed the video!

So... my favorite Rising Sun creature is a kickstarter exclusive. This is extremely frustrating. Anyway, stunning video. And let me say: you know how to find the most suitable music for a painting video.
@TheKingofAverage5 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! :) As for the KSE part of it, that really sucks, but also quite typical with CMON games. Heck, many of their games I'd not even like retail as I find they typically have the most boring and average minis with them :D

What's the soundtrack you use for these videos? It's so creepy, I love it.
@TheKingofAverage6 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear you like it! :) I give full credit for all music used in the description. The one you are saying is creepy is probably Spirit of the Girl, which coupled with painting a snake, can certainly enhance a sort of slithering feeling :D

Turns out it was Night of the Owl.

What kind of lazy Susan do you use for the last shot?

I use this one: amzn.to/2J0C0ri - it works really nice as it turns slowly isn't battery powered which is a plus for me. I have this placed on top for a pure white/reflective material that helps blend into the background and helps bounce the light around: amzn.to/2Haf2xI

You could have painted the bottom part first then cavalry brown, I like snakes!!
@TheKingofAverage6 жыл бұрын
Eh, perhaps. I feel either way I can't control my brush in there easily :) I like snakes too and think they look great once painted! Just always have a few frustrating bits with them.

In hindsight, all the yellow bellies at the base that's hard to get to and you're being careful not to mix it with the red scales, couldn't you just slop some messy brown in there and disguise it as mud? It'll make it easier.
@TheKingofAverage6 жыл бұрын
Such a good idea I wish I had thought of it! :) Sadly as you saw I thought of adding mud after the fact. Hopefully others can watch a learn better ways!

Personnally, I think that this guy is inspired by Orochimaru, from Naruto.
@TheKingofAverage6 жыл бұрын
Had to google that, I can definitely see the resemblance!
@nikopaseman71476 жыл бұрын
Orochimaru is very loosely based on this, rather. This mini is a representation of an ancient myth of a yokai called Nure-Onna or "wet woman" commonly depicted as a 300 meter long sea serpent with a human woman's head. The character from Naruto took inspiration from these ancient legends. Sorta like how Naruto is based off of the Kitsune legends of a 9 tailed fox. So is Ninetails from pokemon and Ahri from league.
