Iwata actually reprised his role! Hes just much older so it sounds a bit more gravelly but it is definitely him. He has not recorded new lines for Kusanagi in over 20 years.

Back then I was genuinely appreciative that they reprised his voice actor, and now Iwata gave new voice clips? This is the greatest gift for an UE fighter for one of my favorite characters.. Times changed but you can still tell it's him voicing Kusanagi, especially if you heard his role as Champa and Ivankov

Wow, Mitsuo Iwata sounds very different compared to his 2002 days. His voice lines gives me the impression that he's no longer in that rage kind of voice (Miss that kind), but rather a combination of Champa and Ivankov.

So this KUSANAGI is the canon KUSANAGI because technically the one we had SS KUSANAGI is the one from 2002 and we know that that game is not canon and he got reintroduced in 2003 and that game is canon so technically this KUSANAGI is not the same as the SS KUSANAGI so we have two Different KUSANAGIs in the game, thinking like this makes my head hurts

I kinda wish they can bring this character back in one of the mainline games down the road, obviously as we know him he plays almost exactly like how Kyo used to play in early KOFs, but I think there's enough potential in there to diversify him into his own character (it's not like shoto-clones or evil version of the main protagonist are not a popular thing), there's definitely a lot they can do in terms of story too, especially now that Krohnen is back.
