Have you ever wondered: Can you turn ocean water into sea salt? How to make homemade sea salt with salt water? How do you extract sea salt from salt water? If you took the WATER out of SALT WATER, would it just leave SALT? Today we're finding out! TKOR has done some random experiments in the past and in this video, we're just experimenting if it is possible to turn ocean water into a sea salt. What will happen? Watch the entire video to find out! We also have some other fun tests we performed. Hopefully this gives you an idea as to what can or can’t be experimented with sea water.
This entertaining ocean water experiment is perfect for those wanting to know if you turn regular ocean water into something cool, how to make salt, how to make sea salt, salt water experiment, how to boil sea water, drinking sea water safety, how salt is made, and using ocean water to make homemade sea salt.
If you want to test something creative and entertaining or do an activity such as: science experiment, survival skills, STEM project, STEM science experiment, science fair project, science fair experiment, or a fun weekend project...watch the video to learn more.

Salt seething ("Saltsydning" in Danish) is a very old tradition in Denmark, that dates back to at least the 1100's. Some basic tips for salt seething: 1. Use a pan or a large plate, not a pot. When using a flat container for your sea water, you maximize the surface where the water can evaporate from. This will minimize the time and heating energy spent in the process. 2. Don't let your water boil, only heat it to around 83 degrees Celsius (181 degrees Fahrenheit). When heating above this temperature, certain minerals will start to crystallize. These minerals add a bitter taste to the salt, and you typically don't want that. I can't guarantee that your local sea water contains these minerals, so you might be lucky and be able to boil your sea water without making the salt bitter. But if you end up with sea salt that has a bitter taste to it, and you did boil your water, you then know why. 3. Don't boil your water dry, only boil out so much water that your saline solution is 26%. When your saline solution (sea water) reaches around 26% salt, your saline solution is saturated, and the salt crystals will start to precipitate, and can be scooped out. The wet salt can then be put into a filter of some sort, to let the remaining water drip out. This saves time and energy. 4. The magnesium salt solution that is left over from this process, is typically used in cremes for treating psoriasis and other unwanted skin conditions and diseases.

Not only a long danish tradition but it is from the romans, the use to appreciate so much the salt that they would pay with it, where do you think that the word salary comes from? Here in Spain many people keep doing it, also because the places where they do it create perfect ecosystems for little insects to live in, and those are eaten by flamingo, that is why it is important here to keep these places

@TraitorousHomeworlder
@TraitorousHomeworlder 7 жыл бұрын
Cats and Hats, freezing salt in no way would get you water. The reason why you can separate salt from water is by boiling it, which means the water particles evaporate into a gas, and until it cools down is very fast and most likely to collect somewhere else. Also, salt is already frozen in the first place as it is solid. If you learned this in school, then it was certainly not from a teacher.

sigh ok... first he did weigh the pot.. that is called tare then he weight the water, then when the experiment was over he weighed the product to get a accurate %
@Glalie2000
@Glalie2000 6 жыл бұрын
Shane Spurgeon yes you are correct but what the op is saying is he could've gotten a more accurate result by first getting the weight of the pot, then getting 3kg of water weight added onto the pot weight, and then once it's evaporated the pot with salt is weighed and the original pot weights subtracted from that to get a much more accurate result since you cannot scrape 100% of the salt off the pot.

To remove solids from water faster than settling use a cloth strip wetted in the water then run it over the edge of the original container into a container at a lower level. The water will siphon from the original container to the lower container leaving the solids behind. However this will not remove microscopic organic contamination or dissolved solids.

lena5669 If you were to get perfectly clean water and add salty and boil it , when it comes back down it would be salty. In order for something to evaporate it the water molocules need something to grab on too. In a ditch that may be a bacteria in the ocean it will 80% of the time be a salt particle

I had this idea as well..but i never thought of using the water made for potable use... but more like non potable uses ... you know filling your toilet, watering your yard, supplying fire hydrants ect ect , keep all the fresh water we have to use for human consumption(potable water). Taking it a step further why not use the steam to generate power? you have to boil the water, why not use the steam? Let it turn a generator before it condenses back to water ....
@yuwish6320

Wait, potatoes are bad for you? Or is it the natural sea salt that's bad for you... I'm sorry I fail to see what point you're trying to make, considering the chips made with sea salt and potatoes also don't involve typical grease that is a byproduct of frying dried potato slices in oil, which is how Lays and Pringles and most chips are made. Healthy chips, which are certified, are baked, which means no grease, so substantially more healthy than your average potato chip. Why do I know all this? I'm a very bored person and I tend to binge watch documentaries and how-its-made videos. Why not make homemade potato chips? I have and they're actually much more delicious than anything you'd buy, just make sure you add a flavor to it, or else it'll just be salty potatoes...

*Sea salt* is strictly Sodium Chloride (NaCl). Other locations in the world have bodies of water which do have multiple salts which are toxic to humans, like for example the salties location (called Gaet'ale) on planet Earth, which has two salts: Calcium Chloride (CaCl2) and Magnesium Chloride (MgCl2). *Table salt* is made up of either multiple salts (in the developed world) or strictly Sodium Chloride (in the undeveloped world). The main, and most well known salt is Sodium Chloride which forms a crystal lattice structure which is seen in the macroscopic world as grains of salt. Table salt, in developed countries like the US, has Iodine containing salts added--which are very important for your health. These compounds are: Potassium Iodate (KIO3), Potassium Iodide (KI), Sodium Iodate (NaIO3), and Sodium Iodide (NaI). *Overall* there's no difference between table salt and sea salt, other than table salt being an ingredient in food so, we humans have treated it with important *added salts* which are essential in things like the biosynthesis of thyroid hormones.

No guys, don't just go and scrap the teflon pan with metal spoon. If you can afford new one, no problem.
