**Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ): ** 1. What mods do you use for Heroes III? / What version of the game are you using? I usually play Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Shadow of Death with the HD mod (downloadable from sites.google.com/site/heroes3hd/). Sometimes, I'll also use Horn of the Abyss (also known as HotA), but I'm not using it in this video. The HD mod is responsible for most of the features that you see in my videos. Note that the Heroes III HD mod is not compatible with Ubisoft's HD Edition on Steam. 2. How do I get your version of the game? Shadow of Death is functionally the same (e.g. there are no gameplay differences) as the Heroes III Complete Edition, which you can get from www.gog.com/game/heroes_of_might_and_magic_3_complete_edition for relatively cheap. Horn of the Abyss can be obtained from download.h3hota.com/HotA_setup. 3. How do you see how far units can move in combat? This is one feature of the HD mod (see FAQ #1) and can be done by mousing over a unit and holding down the CTRL key. 4. What are the hotkeys that you use? This is one feature of the HD mod (see FAQ #1). The most frequent hotkeys that I use for army management are: - CTRL+Click to create a 1-stack - ALT+Click to group up all units of the same type into one big stack - SHIFT+Click to split a stack into two halves - CTRL+SHIFT+Click to fill up all remaining empty slots with a 1-stack A full list of the hotkeys that the HD mod provides can be found at sites.google.com/site/heroes3hd/eng/description/extended-ui. 5. How do you display the extended hero details while setting up a map? This is one feature of the HD mod (see FAQ #1) and can be done simply by right-clicking on a hero's portrait while selecting a hero. Note that Single Scenarios do not support this feature. 6. How do you step through Two-Way Monoliths and Subterranean Gates without moving your hero? Pressing the Space Bar key will cause your hero to step on the same square that they are currently on, allowing them to move through Two-Way Monoliths and Subterranean Gates at will. The Space Bar key can also be used on Water Wheels, Windmills, Mystical Gardens, and other map objects. Note that this feature is only available in versions of Heroes III that come later than Restoration of Erathia, meaning that this cannot be done in Ubisoft's HD Edition on Steam. 7. How can I get my unit animations in combat to be as fast as yours? To get accelerated unit animations, download crAnim.txt from heroesportal.net/getfile.php?file=/files/information/16/Cranim.txt and put it into the Data folder of your Heroes III directory.

I was wondering when you'd mention the re-roll(s) to get so lucky with a Dragon Cave, what template you were playing, and how the F did those stock Estate vampires became Lords. Got all info @51:30 . See, me and an old friend(also neighbor) play like this: HotA+HD Mod, Map template - 8xm8, size - G, diff:200%, paved roads, no water. Rules of engagement: We grind the WHOLE map. About 6-10, sometimes more months in-game time. We take zones evenly (when we can) - we stay away from eachother's roads, etc. We go full-on, maxed-out, all-you-can-get, until the last dark spots go away from the map. Then we meet. Save the game just before the battle, at which point - it's monstrous, we both have most, if not all of the sets, no grail-stuff, and INSANE amount of units. Fight is fought a few times. We test builds,heroes and stuff... About the 8-th month, this 8xm8 template goes... "above and beyond"! Fights with 200-500 dragons/angels/devils are common. 6-th level units are in the thousands. The experience is INSANE! Then we fight. Of course, it takes many long sessions, before we get to the clash, but still... We play it for a month ,almost every day, at least 2 hours per day. Until the time comes. I remember last time we played WoG - my friend broke the game with Conflux,Monere... His magic elementals at one time had higher stats than the Phoenix, then when we converted our power/knowledge points at this "tower"-thingy into only attack and defence - they went to negative values (attack -255)... He's 30-ish, and i'm 27, and we have been playing Heroes 3 together (under all forms of mods and rules) for more than 10 years. Not stopping soon, i guarantee that! Cheers, and thanks for the good content - those one-stack splits you do, never came to our minds until last year, when i stumbled on one of your vids. :D

I was playing with my wife today the same map template (I used this strategy, only I found two Dragon Caves and went for double build with Dungeon early on; ended up crushing her with 60 Black Dragons in 311; no cuddles tonight I guess). However I wanted the two of us to play different colors than the usual red and blue, but my flags won't appear in the Advanced Options. As I try now as a single player, it is still the same, only the red flag is available for me. I searched it on Google, but no luck. Can you help me out? :(

No need to apologize! I'm always up for answering Heroes III-related inquiries whenever I can ;) Having said that, I'm not too sure what the issue here is. Even if you don't have the HD mod, you should be able to click on the different flags to select what color that you want each human player to start with. Can you post a screenshot of what your Show Advanced Options screen looks like?

Also screenshot below: postimg.cc/rzQGVBhR I also use Cranim and [that mod that shows you the approximate number of guards when right click - forgot the name of it]. However, now that I think about it...could this be related to the fact that I don't have the last Heroes 3 update? I mean, I installed the game from an old CD that I have (says Heroes 3 Complete on it) and didn't buy it from GOG. I guess I'll buy it today, since it's so, so cheap...and see if the issue resolves.

But once I install the HD Mod they disappear again, leaving me with only the red color. Thanks! I do need to find the time to start up the Heroes III campaigns, though. That hasn't happened as of recent. To answer your question, no, I don't play any of the other games in the Heroes of Might and Magic series at the moment. I have played Heroes 1 all the way to Heroes 5, though. For me, Heroes 1 is okay and Heroes 2 is my second-favorite (with 3 being my favorite, of course). I've heard some people who enjoy Heroes 4 and Heroes 5, but I can't say I like either game. Heroes 4's core gameplay feels like too far of a departure from the gameplay found in its predecessors, and I just couldn't adjust to the 3D models and birdseye view of the map found in Heroes 5. Unfortunately, I don't have any plans to do videos on the other Heroes of Might and Magic games anytime soon.

I can see why you would request for me to show off other mods for Heroes III as well, but I'm going to have to veto this notion for the time being. I took a peculiar interest in showing off Horn of the Abyss since it's a mod that stuck very closely to the original game. HotA also supports multiplayer quite nicely via the Online Lobby and Simultaneous Turns, making it a good candidate for multiplayer matches. Unfortunately, with the limited time I have, I want the main focus of my videos to be on the Heroes III Complete Edition and not on any mods for the game.

I'm glad you're enjoying my content! Others have requested a video where I go over the "best towns/heroes/units", but I have no plans to make one at this time. For starters, what qualifies as the "best" town/hero/unit vastly differs based on the situation that you're placed in (e.g. 160% difficulty versus 200% difficulty). In addition, while I could give some justification as to why I consider some options to be better than others, I wouldn't feel confident doing so. There are other Heroes III players who are more skilled than I am who would disagree and have strong counterarguments as to why my picks might be wrong. Sorry about that!

Too bad it's not 12 hours :) I remember that you played Dungeon and had a shit ton of dragons when you played Meridian on PvP, likely due to an external dwelling and a portal of summoning. That's actually how I found out about you; by watching Meridian's channel on KZbin about two or three years ago.

Don't worry! The next long playthrough will come soon enough, but I appreciate your enthusiasm :) If I recall correctly, in my first game against Meridian, I think I went straight for a Dragon Cave in my main town instead of a Portal of Summoning. Also, I remember having not one, but two external Dragon Caves in my starting area. Overall, I had a fantastic starting area in that match, but that's hardly comparable to the starting area of this playthrough since my game against Meridian was on Jebus Cross on 160% difficulty. Having said that, it's nice knowing that you came across my channel as a result of that match!

I wonder, do many people here follow the example of MeKick and play with artificial restrictions? It would be interesting to find out. And I'll list my own rules, which I use in order to make the game a challenge against the AI, and to give more character to each game: 1. SOD + HD mod, random XL map, random hero/bonus, no dungeons, hardest difficulty, me and 4AI players in FFA. No loading. 2. Map has to be hard: very few resources to pick for free, seriously strong guards on paths to other areas, and preferably- access to sawmill or ore mine blocked by monsters that are unbeatable for a week or two. Map is bad/boring if you can build up the castle to level 6 in the first two weeks. 3. Versus neutrals battle is always Auto-combat (with magic enabled), but manual control vs AI heroes/castles. Autocombat has the added effect of making many fast/upgraded units worse, because they rush to put themselves into the reach of neutrals:) The other effect- is that strong stacks of neutrals stay dangerous even late in the game, because fighting them slowly depletes the army. One more note: I usually watch the auto-combat battle. In some of them, horrible things happen that make you laugh and cry at once. Like that one battle, when I had a great stack of grand elves, some pegasi 1-stacks, and a strong stack of Unicorns- and assaulted a small stack of Vampire Lords. So what happened, was: pegasi left the elves open, vampires flew to them, then Elves attacked the vampires and removed the counterstrike, and pegasi attacked next and blocked vampires so Unicorns could no longer reach them. Then battle continued in the same position, till Vampire Lords slowly ate all my Elves in safety from Unicorns, guaranteed by my pegasi:) Great stuff.. 4. It is not allowed to check the guards of Dragon Fly Hive, Griffin Conservatory, Dwarven Treasury or any other similar building. This is to make these buildings much more dangerous, and to stop from turning every game into playing wyvern/angel game, instead of playing YOUR castle. Also, Humans are overpowered anyway, so are not allowed to take any angels from conservatories. 5. Troops from every external building can only be hired once, after that- you only get +1 bonus to growth in the castle. 6. Troops for adventuring can only be hired from the main castle. Any other castles- can use local troops to defend and fight in their area- but those troops can not be taken outside of it (except 1-stacks for secondary hero speed). This rule makes you play and win the game for YOUR castle, instead of building several castles, or rushing the enemy and then ending up playing for THEIR castle type. Also- it means that all of your adventuring heroes have to share troops from that single castle of yours:) 7. No 'poor mans teleport'. 8. The usual: no diplo; no main heroes with Logistics or Armor specialty (because I would always play them- boring); no cartographer or expert View Air/Earth; no high level scrolls till I build corresponding level of Mage guild; no teleports/Fly/DD till I see AI using it, and even then, Fly/DD can only be used against AI, not to steal artifacts from neutrals. I think that is about it. Also, because random maps are usually created easy, and I'm too lazy to build my own map templates- I get to randomize and try 10-20 maps to find one worth playing. And I save the good ones for sharing with friends, or maybe viewers of this channel, if anyone happened to be interested.

Especially on Week 1, I tend to avoid picking up resources to preserve how much movement my heroes have left until I know I need them.

Kudos to you for your patience and understanding! Indeed, I'm usually pretty busy during the day, yet I'm supposed to allocate some time during the month to sit down and do a recording of a full Heroes III match. As you could imagine, this isn't always possible, which is why I can't do more frequent updates even though I'm sure all of us would enjoy having episodes get released more regularly.

Like with my Demon Farming on Month 1 video, the main focus of this shorter-than-usual video was to focus on what could be accomplished by the end of the first month. So I have been planning to respond to one of your videos for a while now, but never came round to it. But I don't know how to respond without starting to sound creepy. But here goes; I think you could say I am starting to get addicted to your channel. I find myself watching during cooking, eating and in bed at night. Sometimes I wake up at 2 in the morning with a video of you playing on my phone. Told you; creepy! But how else to watch this amount of content? I have work! I have hobbies! I have a wife and son! (who I don't see during the week because of work, so that helps) Maybe for some other people you don't seem to make enough content, but I am just busy catching up. And I also like to read the comments because you are very active replying on comments, which are sometimes very funny or informative. I remember playing this game when I was 15. When I saw a meme about it about half a year ago, I started looking for videos. What I wanted was big battles with thousands of angels vs thousands of demons. But that's because I cheated a lot 20 years ago! I didn't have the patience to get to know the game. Luckily, I do now, and that's why I really love your videos. Yesterday I deafeated 3 opponents on 100% difficulty with normal strength monsters. I know this is nothing, but I am very proud of myself. great tactic, 7 black dragons by month 1 week 4, and 14 att 12 def 13 pow 11 know. Play this game over 20 years now and never thought about it. :P month 2 week 2 day 1 : 24 black dragons (production 9 black dragons weekly, 2 dungeon castles = 3+3+2+1 (external dwelning) all stats above 20, defence 32. I had to beat 9 phoenix to get to the dragon cave. After beating this with 144 troglodytes and 10 beholders, army was to low so had to wait until weak 2 for dragons.

Wow, those are some insane numbers on those Black Dragons and stats! As I mentioned at the start of the video, I was also in the same boat for many years and never realized that Portal of Summoning works as a "clone" of whatever creature dwelling you flagged rather than a transporter. I'm impressed that you managed to take down 9 Phoenixes to get your hands on that Dragon Cave! I wouldn't even consider taking on such strong guards in the opening stages of the match. Good on you for having some fun with this strategy!

+TheKnownWorld its on the game wings of heaven. but the AI has +40 stats at month 5. 237 thunderbirds, 85 ancient behemoths, 1900 goblins. to go to the AI. you have to pass a throng of Titans. it's a fun game.
