It is said that Ashoka's conversion to Buddhism was partly inspired by the horrors he witnessed in Kalinga, leading to his adoption of non-violence as a guiding principle.
In the centuries that followed, Kalinga experienced periods of prosperity and political upheaval, as various dynasties vied for control over the region. The Gupta Empire, followed by the Eastern Ganga dynasty, left their imprint on Kalinga's cultural landscape, fostering the development of art, architecture, and literature.

Yes , the Kalinga war was possibly due to the tussle in between Magadha and Kalinga over the sea routes and sea trade . Historians who worked on ancient Indian History paid very little tribute to the history of Odisha. Therefore, a glorious past of Indian sea faring is still shrouded in mystery. According to Lama Taranath Ashoka invaded Kalinga as The Nagas plundered some of his jewels . This Nagas were the people of coastal Odisha. Possibly there were some feud between the Nagas and Ashoka as the tribe restricted Ashoka' s access to the ports like Dantapura , Kalinga pattan , Chelitalo , Dorasene , Pithunda , Tamralipta and others . Kalinga had a trade relation with South East Asian countries and so even today many tribes of South East Asia call themselves Kalinga . Apart from Vijaya Singha , the Kalinga Magha dynasty ruled over Srilanka. Koundinya , a Brahmin from Kalinga formed a dynasty in Cambodia . Footprints of Kalinga brave hearts still can be found in Myanmar, Thiland etc . This sea trade perhaps lured Ashoka to invade the country of his in laws .

सम्राट अशोक के शिलालेखों से स्पष्ट ज्ञात होता है की उन्होंने धर्म (धम्म) के संदर्भ में स्वयं के विचारों को शिलाओं पर अंकित करवाया| मेरे शोध अनुसार अशोक के किसी भी शिलालेख में बौद्ध, बौद्ध धर्म या गौतम/भगवान बुद्ध जैसा कोई शब्द पाली भाषा में अंकित नहीं है| उन्होंने केवल धर्म एवं मौलिकता की बातों को अंकित करवाया था|

कलिंग युद्ध का उल्लेख कन्दहार शीलालेख में क्यूं किया गया। कत्लेआम का उदाहरण देकर दहशदगर्दी फ़ैलाने का उद्देश्य तो नहीं।

Even after retaining the tag of Kalinga Sagar for thousands of years, British came for just 200 years and changed it to Bay of Bengal. When the name change saga is going on with full flow now, this should also be changed.

अशोक का इतिहास सिर्फ बौद्ध ग्रंथो मे है.जब तक दुसरा कोई proof नही मिलता, अशोक की पुरी कहानी सच नही मान सकते। धर्मग्रंथो मे जो लिखा ,है ओ पुरी तरह से पुरावा नही मान सकते। अशोक खुद को ,देवो को प्रिय ,समजता है,जैसे की शिलालेख मे लिखा है. बौद्ध धर्म ईश्वर को नही मानता. इसिलीये अशोक ने बौद्ध धर्म का स्वीकार किया था,ये विधान पुरी तरह, सच नही मान सकते. वामपंथी इतिहास लेखकों के लिखे इतिहास का ,पुनर्लेखन जरुरी है.

सवाल था, सम्राट अशोक ने कलिंग पर आक्रमण क्यों किया? लेकिन आप ने इसका जवाब दिया ही नहीं! दुसरी बात यह कि कंदाहार में मिले एक स्तंभ से कलिंग युद्ध के बारेमे वर्णन है लेकिन इसमें सम्राट अशोक के बजाय कोई दुसरे राजा का नाम है! मतलब आप ने जो भी बताया है, वह किसी काम का नहीं!

यज्ञार्थं पशवः सृष्टाः स्वयमेव स्वयम्भुवा । यज्ञोऽस्य भूत्यै सर्वस्य तस्माद् यज्ञे वधोऽवधः ॥ ३९ ॥ yajñārthaṃ paśavaḥ sṛṣṭāḥ svayameva svayambhuvā | yajño'sya bhūtyai sarvasya tasmād yajñe vadho'vadhaḥ || 39 || Animals have been created by the Self-born God himself for the purpose of sacrifice: sacrifice is conducive to the well-being of all this would; hence killing at a sacrifice is no ‘killing’ at all-(39).
