It wasn't a temple , it was a pillar which are not meant to bear the weight of temples. Such pillars where found away from the site also. They used to recycle and reuse . But it was a pillar meant for decoration it clearly would not be used for temples. Also workmen were Hindus, so even though built on islamic concept it still had that Hindu touch. So from that even the supreme court rejected this claim.
