Uttrakhand's Joshimath in Chamoli witnesses subsidence since the last few days. Two hotels are being demolished and about 700 houses received cracks due to subsidence. Lallantop visited Joshimath and tried to understand the devastation caused in the beautiful and important location on the mountain.

*केदारनाथ जी की यह तस्वीर 1882 में भूगर्भ सर्वेक्षण विभाग ने खींची थी...* . *यह वो समय था जब हमारे पुरखे मानते थे कि ऊंचे हिमालयी इलाकों में मानवी दखल कम से कम होना चाहिए।* *वे ऐसा मानते ही नहीं थे,अपने व्यवहार में इसका ख्याल भी रखते थे....* *जैसे कि,बुग्यालों में जाने के ये अलिखित कायदे थे कि वहां जोर-जोर से न बोला जाए या खांसा भी धीरे से जाए....* *बताते हैं कि तब तीर्थयात्री गौरीकुंड से सुबह-सुबह निकलते थे और 14 किलोमीटर दूर प्रभु केदारनाथ के दर्शन करके शाम तक वापस आ जाते थे..* *हमारे पुरखों ने केदारनाथ में जैसे भव्य मंदिर बना दिया था वैसे ही वहां रात बिताने के लिए और भवन भी वे बना ही सकते थे,लेकिन कुछ सोचकर ही उन्होंने ऐसा नहीं किया होगा...* *मात्र पुजारी जी के लिए एक छोटी सी झोपडी है, आप फोटो में देख सकते हैं,जबकि क्या उस समय के राजा महाराजाओं और सेठों के पास धन की कमी थी कि एक ज्योतिर्लिंग के पंडित जी झोपड़ी में रहें?* *सोच शायद यही रही होगी कि जिस फसल से पेट भर रहा है उसके बीज भविष्य के लिए भी सुरक्षा से रखे जाएं...* *यानी करोड़ों लोगों का जीवन चलाने वाली गंगा-यमुना जैसी कितनी ही सदानीरा नदियों के स्रोत जिस हिमालय में हैं उसे कम से कम छेड़ा जाए...* *लेकिन जिन इलाकों में जोर से न बोलने तक की सलाह थी वहां आज भयानक शोर है...* *अय्याशियों के लिए होटल आदि बना दिए हैं, दुनिया भर के कुकर्मी वहां कुकर्म करने जाते हैं,जहां तहां आपको बीयर की बॉटल और अनेक आपत्तिजनक चीजें दिख जाएंगी, कोर्ट में भी पिटीशन दायर हुआ था कि देवभूमि के होटलों में वेश्यावृत्ति बंद हो....* *यह शोर, खनन , विकास कार्य, पेड़ पौधों का कटाव,जीव जंतुओं का विनाश, सड़कों और सुरंगों के लिए पहाड़ों को उड़ाते डायनामाइट का हो, गंगा आदि को बांधने के लिए चल रही परियोजनाएं हों या साल-दर-साल बढ़ते श्रद्धालुओं को धाम पहुंचाने के लिए दिन में दसियों चक्कर लगाते हेलीकॉप्टरों,गाड़ियों आदि का...* *इसने प्रकृति की नींद में खलल पैदा कर रखा है...* *अमरनाथ से लेकर केदारनाथ तक ऊंचे हिमालय में बसे हर तीर्थ का हाल एक जैसा है....* *नदियों के रास्ते में बेपरवाही से पुस्ते डालकर बना दिए गए मकान,रास्तों पर जगह-जगह फेंकी गई प्लास्टिक की बोतलों और थैलियों के अंबार और तीर्थों में फिल्मी गानों की पैरोडी पर लाउडस्पीकर से बजते कानफाड़ू गाने इशारा कर रहे हैं कि व्यवस्था के सुधरने की मांग करने से पहले एक समाज के रूप में हमें भी खुद को सुधारने की जरूरत है....* *नहीं सुधरेंगे तो यह परिमार्जन देर-सबेर प्रकृति खुद ही कर लेगी और वह कितना क्रूर हो सकता है यह हम देख ही रहे हैं...* *बाकी,शहर में रहने वाले अर्बन इसपर ज्ञान ना दें,ग्लोबल वार्मिंग आदि में सबसे बड़ा योगदान आपका है, एसी फ्रिज कार में रहिए,फिर ज्ञान दीजिए पर्यावरण का...* *शरीर में जब ज्वर होता है तो एक या दो डिग्री टेंपरेचर ही बढ़ता है...* *हालत पस्त हो जाती है,और यहां तो हर वर्ष ग्लोब का तापमान बढ़ रहा है...* *समझ जाओ,कायदे से रहोगे तो फायदे में रहोगे...!!!*

Around 1992 it was a sparsely habitated area,now tourism geared development culminated into this scenario. Now the trenches and gaps may deepen and a gush of rain may destabilize compacted earth layers from brittle rocky mass rolling under pressure culminating into land and mud slide
