Another stunning video. Just beautiful! Very few of us watching this will ever actually get there. But you inspire us to get out and explore the wildlife preserves that are near us. Thank You!👍👌🙏😊

Hi guys. Enjoying the videos. Why was it scary? Drifting alone in a mokoro is a relaxing and close to nature experience you have to do in the Okavango. One way I can recommend is to catch a 30 minute flight from Maun airport on the edge of the Okavango deeper into the delta to chiefs island and stay over for a couple of days. They are small Cessna type planes flown by young pilots of various nationalities. (Aussies, NZ, English and South Africans ). It is beautiful flying over the Okavango. You land on a dirt strip in the middle of nowhere and they pick you up in the mokoro’s and take you to chiefs island where you can stay in tents on stilts overlooking the water. Most of the mokoro’s are now made of fibreglass as the trees are becoming scarce. I think they are safer.

@@stevestott1514 Thanks. I'm well aware of that. My wife and I did a 2 day canoe safari on the upper Zambesi and I fell out the canoe in a narrow channel with no possibility of getting back in until the channel ended in a deep hippo pool. But I didn't see any time in this video where they got close to hippos.

Hey, thank you for your comment. We found it a little nerve racking due to the hippos. They were close at points and it was quite daunting. You are pretty vulnerable when you are in a Mokoro. We would love to do a flight but unfortunately it’s a little out of our budget, maybe in the future! We were in a traditional Mokoro therefore it was made of wood. Chloe ☺️

Those narrow lanes you travel along in the makoro are called hippo highways. The term adds to the scariness of the experience.

Howdy Landies! So glad you had a peaceful mokoro ride…they are also a great way to get chomped, swallowed, and generally devoured by big lizards or ornery hippos! But I digress…saddle up n be safe!

We really enjoyed the Mokoro ride, it was a little daunting at times as the hippos were pretty close but other than that it was wonderful to relax and be on the water. Thanks for your comment Steve 🙌☺️

Done a number of mokoro trips in the past and loved every minute of them. Did you get a chance to try and pole a mokoro? Not as easy as it looks

U seem to be travelling alone, do you have any guides to help you and do you feel safe,? and secondly, would you consider moving there if this opportunity comes?

We don’t have any guides, we of course always speak to locals and other travellers. iOverlander is super helpful. We wouldn’t rule it out, we haven’t made any decisions yet 😬

Did you ask the permission of your guide to fly the drone? When I was there they were SUPER strict about drones, so hardly got to fly mine at all!
