because they were all promoting stuff at the same time. if you listen to the very end you'll hear it. gwen had an album coming out, julia and george had a movie coming out and james announced them when he was back in the studio at his desk.

To add to jra's comment then it's not that surprising due to a running joke that you hear George and James play on. When George tells Julia on the phone that Gwen is there and says "NOW she's coming" and James says "What does THAT mean?!" then it's due to Julia's long and very public history of having a massive celeb crush on Gwen. There's footage around from the red carpet years ago when Julia was being interviewed and could see on the camera feed that Gwen was being interviewed behind her. She totally freaked out and had a major fangirl moment when Gwen came over as it turned out that Gwen was a huge fan of hers so both went a bit nuts. The truly bizarre reason I know that is because we had no idea about this for years but Julia is also a huge fan of a friend of mine that's an 80's artist who wrote and sang one the most recognisable songs from that era (she's a massive music lover) and when she finally met him then she said how amazing it was that she'd now met both Gwen and said friend. To answer the obvious then hell yes, he's still dining out on not only meeting her but seeing her go all starstruck when doing so and yes, we are all insanely jealous! Apparently, she's absolutely stunning (no shock there) and very sweet. Edited to obviously add the song lol. He's the lead singer of Real Life, wrote and sang the 1983 and 1989 hit Send Me An Angel.

Can we just take a second to appreciate how James Cordon is perfectly able to accompany any voice and make his own mark, without overlaying the artist’s ?!! Only a real and good singer can do this. Plus putting the megastars at their ease, and get nice anecdotes from them for the viewers. Plus make all this look dead easy and mega-fun, in 99% of the episodes. This is great talent - and no one will ever do carpool karaoke as good as he does. (Others, don’t even try…)

Gwen’s first two solo albums are so great to listen to, just been on a two and a half hour trip and all we listened to were Gwen’s albums, some great 80s inspired pop songs from the early 00s. Now everyone does 80s pop (the Weenkd, Dua Lipa), but the first who started doing it was Gwen.

I don't think they should have sang the No Doubt song. The song they sang, Don't Speak, was written about Gwen getting more attention than the band as if it were the Gwen Stefani band. No Doubt is great and their music is very different from what Gwen has done in her solo career.
