Actually, I don't. I respect the hell put of it, but I have some genuine commentary for his lyrical work. I like his music compositions and how he combines it with the metric, but I really don't appreciate how he sacrifices rhyme and phrasing justso the words fit into them. For example, some stuff he comes up with it is cool, like Angelica describing meeting Hamilton as similar to "Ben Franklin with a key and a kite", instead of having her explaining the emotion with a single word, but some others are lackluster. Eliza's "helpless" musical motif is cool: fots her beggining, fits her development, and fits/is broken with the resolution of the play, but sometimes is either overused or doesn't fit the overall song or dialogue. For example, when Hamilton acceptes the position of Treasurer, the song indicates for her to sing just the word "helpless", and it sounds strange that a woman says an adjetive alone and nothing else. Then Hamilton replies, then she starts singing normally again. The idea here is to convey how helplessness in love can be either good or bad, (again, character motif!) but giving that the musical cue is just enough for the audience to pick it up quickly, it seems not very well thought. (If you want to know how this works about musical motif repeating and building emotions on the audience with just sound, check Sweeney Todd. There are a lot of videos analyzing the music by itself). LMM chose to write that probably because that part required just two sylables and couldn't allow for more, but still, having the music carry the theme could have allow Eliza to say something like "please wait" with the same melody: it is also two sylables, fits the diegetic dialogue and makes the word "helpless" be safe from overuse, since it plays an important part later in certain points. This is part of him being very ambitious. Normally, in operas and shows with big scale, there is someone in charge of the music and then someone who is in charge of lyrics that blend into it. He comes up a lot of his work, which is worthy of respect, but he is only a man, so right now he rymes words with themselves and only manages to make it work by changing the rest of the sentence. When Moana came out, he had improved a lot comoared to Hamilton (look for the video _How Disney uses language,_ he does something great in there). We only need to wait and see if he has developed more. So, Lin has talent, a lot of it. Hamilton has great music and the story is... Good, considering how little he could stray from the history without losing some of the curiosity of the audience. But he needs to work out on polishing up his lyrics for while they are strong, they still are the weakest part of his productions, so then we all can enjoy the great music he creates without wondering why the hell he keeps the chorus shouting "the WHAT?!" so often and without a reason.
