IMO Matt's best story was the silver screw. Told this many times myself. Nobody gets it until I tell what happened when the screw was removed. ROFL. Great comedian.

funny I was talking to a guy in his late 70s from East Kilbride about Matt McGinn the other day (as I only discovered him this week) and he said Matt had a cousin in EK and used to visit him a lot and they'd go for a pint with him in the Monty etc

His former wife and the subject of 'My Dearest My Darling', Janette Gallacher died in late March of this year.

On the contrary, they always had great respect and love for each other and his songs for her show that, such as Janetta and Jeannie Gallacher.

@@FuerteEnglish I don't think that's entirely accurate. He almost certainly wasn't an easy man to live with.

@@odhrangallagher5738 Janette said he was difficult to live with on the McGinn of the Calton STV programme. They were together 25 years, but they did have, as I said above, great respect and love for each other. They separated but I can assure you the song you mentioned above was most certainly not written about Janette, I witnessed him writing this song first hand, as well as the beautiful, sad song “Janetta” I mentioned above, and believe me, that was not about Janette. As you say, Janette has now passed.
@odhrangallagher57382 жыл бұрын
@@FuerteEnglish In his memoirs, Matt describes his relationship with Janette as “troubled”. Unfortunately, it’s likely that by the end they didn’t have much love for each other left - that’s certainly how she presents in the television special.

@@odhrangallagher5738 I understand and respect your point of view on it, I get the feeling you know Matt’s work. They were my parents, so I can tell you they loved each other and respected each other. They separated a few years before my dad’s death and although they didn’t happily live together in the mid 70’s they still met and supported each other. When he says in the song “Janetta” “ of all woman kind, never one above you” I can tell you that is exactly how my dad felt for my mum. Janette lived for 43 years after Matt’s death and we all spoke of him with love, pride and respect and still do.
