I think it's more down to the composer, Hideki had alot more involvement from the 2nd game onwards. I think Yuki Iwai was the reason it had the classic cps2 sound in alot of songs

This version is very clean in comparison with the CPS-3 counterpart, now a CPS-2 version of Nile [ drum & bass remix ] would be awesome Btw, i never understand what that stage is? it's a volcano or something? and what that "w" means in the Street Fighter 3: Double Impact for Dreamcast means? isn't sould be "d" for Double Impact?

For some reason, in Japanese media, the letter W has come to stand for "double." I have absolutely no idea why other than the fact that the word and the letter sound similar. Putting it simply, it's a Japan thing. :)
