8:00 I love the fact that you forgot the Omnitool so you had to go back and see this scare. I remember I did the same thing when I played and it was honestly one of my favorite scares of the game. Just walking back in that long tunnel, the light from the tram distorting your vision as you begin to notice a humanoid figure standing in the distance looking at you... The whole thing was so perfectly framed. And to think that if I was smart and took the Omnitool, I would have never seen it

The wreck design seems to inspired by the the us research ship FLIP. The dubble horisontal laying stairs and ladders, is a feature that is present on flip. Flip is towed into desired position by a tug or a ship and ,then it barlast itself with water and the thing goes to standing position in the water ,due to the deep "keel " flip is very stable and does not bob in the waves.

It's crazy to think about how Simon, or at least the one you play as here, is just the version that won the coin toss after his brain scan. Regular brain-damaged Simon lives out the rest of his semi-normal life long before you wake up in the chair.

Making the Star Trek connection it's just like how commander riker went back to the ship and went on with his life no problem but that copy was left behind to suffer for 20 years he finally gets his dream of being rescued to find that somebody else has been living his life in his place and that's why nobody was looking for him

In regards to the transporters in Star Trek. They actually side step the whole debate that happens. They don´t actually scan a person and then create a copy. They are much weirder than that. They actually turn the matter that`s transported into an energy pattern that is made up from the matter of the thing and intrinsically linked with the information of what it "was" before dematerialisation. And that is transmitted and then rematerialised. The object that materialises is made up from the same energy it was constituted from before, put together the same way it was the instant when it was dematerialised. A better way to put it is that a transporter frezes the person, puts them on pause in an energy state, and then switches them to a differnt location and unfreezes them again. Objectively not really differnt from the idea of cryo sleep, completly stopping and conserving a person and then reviving them later, just with extra steps. That´s by the way why the transporters on Voyager worked yet the replicators were constantly to energy intensive. Because the transporters do not create the object they transport wholsale from a pattern, just put the energy/information package they recieve back together. (And they can transmit thant insane amount of energy/information because it goes through star treks sub space, which is another dimension with wonky physics and bordering to other universes. Which is also the explanation why they can cause paralel universe weirdness. Because if you happen to have another universe tranismit a similar enough energy/information package at the same time, they may get switched.) And it´s why the transporter kills you when the information is degraded, because you don´t actually have a "scan" of the person, you have the person in energy form that is specifically patterned after what they are, and when that is disrupted there is no coming back. To put it into the ship of theseus example, the transporter isn´t making an identical copy of the ship, it takes the ship appart, has it transported over land, and then puts it back together on the other coast.

26:30: If you think about it there might not even be any difference to the biological self dying and the copy going on, compared to the biological self going on alone. If we go to sleep (or unconscious for whatever reason - accidents, anesthesia etc.) and then wake up again it is the exact same experience the protagonist had here. We just assume it is still the same body, but it might not. It could be a perfect copy, or a simulation on a computer. Also our body constantly changes anyways. Me right now has almost nothing in common with me from 10 years ago. The only constant is the persistence of the mind and thus really a switch to a robot body or simulation is nothing different than going to sleep and waking up, perhaps. Very interesting thought experiments.

This game is touching the dilemma of the transhuman thing /uppload your contachness to a computer idea . The believers in the live for ever as digital entity teory, cant ignore the fact that even if we had the technology to scan a brain in full ,the original is not the copy ,so the human being scanned is not going to live forever, they will die as anybody else and the copy will live as a new separated entity. The whole thing is meaningless for the original in other words. You cant fool /or avoid your own death.
