So, in regards to the monster character, the mask Souichi was wearing is a tengu mask. It was commonly used in Noh theater in Japan. Tengu themselves are bird spirits in Japanese folklore, and a Karasu-tengu is just a crow variant. I was trying to figure out if the demon is meant to represent a specific tengu god but there's really not enough information in the game... whether or not tengu are evil really depends on who you ask and which legend you're reading. I recognized immediately that it was a tengu mask, and the character that chases you at the end has crow wings. but that's probably not common knowledge, I just love folklore lol.

Thanks for the context, I always feel like I'm missing the cultural references in these games.
@jackeldridge13193 жыл бұрын
Yeah the whole idea of evil in Japanese folklore is so relative, frankly I attribute that to Buddhism. The whole point of Buddhist philosophy is that what is taught as good is relative to what humans in general deem good. The concept of the prandha, for example, is something that humans find disgusting or evil or bad, but the prandha deems itself good: and can be interpreted as such. This is the same reason that so many folklore creatures are taken in so many different ways tbqh, they see their nature as relative

You kneeling thinking the room was huge was honestly a gold comedy! But seriously, thank you once again for a wonderful vid! Really enjoyed this one, seems like the devs are getting more into it as time goes and it's always nice to see what they come up with next. They started with cheap and loud jumpscares and now actually explore the fears and anxieties through a storytelling and pressure. Sometimes its good to have some shock value don't get me wrong, but it just settles better when you don't have to worry about getting your ears pierced with scream which is often followed by some monster in your face. So good on them going forward in a well constructive way! Stay safe!

Also gonna note that this isn't just a game thing with the confusing hallways, doors, etc. In traditional Japanese architecture that's literally just how things are. Slightly exaggerated in the dark of a horror-based game, but those older houses generally do have circuitous layouts (it's not unusual for them to be based around a central courtyard) and the sliding doors are kind of meant to blend into the walls by design. This one looks like "updated" mid to late 19th century eg; with power and some modern appliances installed but little else changed. Certainly confusing enough to navigate in the dark with junk everywhere though, they make a good setting atmospherically.

As an ex-urban explorer I also grew to hate those dark areas. I learned the hard way about not paying enough attention in them by putting my leg through a rotten floor up to the knee in a hotel. Lucky I didn't break something. As someone who also spent some years in high school working night maintenance in a gigantic shopping mall/office building complex (part of which had been empty since the late 80s and literally looked like "The Backrooms", complete with random spaces and old yellowish wallpaper, but dark brown carpet instead of beige) , I'll also vouch for becoming paranoid on many nights. Being one of only 5 people in a 4-storey building that took up almost 3 square city blocks for 8 hours at night, I used to hear and see things on occasion -- some of which did literally turn out to be trespassers ie; burglars, or most commonly homeless and addicts who had broken in to sleep in one of the many disused back stairwells or hallways, etc. The place was so big and with so many odd, unused areas from being renovated and re-built in so many times that it wasn't too unusual to for me to have to go fix a leak or track down some electrical problem only to find a bum had been living in some random basement room that nobody authorized would set foot in for a year or more at a time. Being downtown in a big city and with only 3 guards for the entire place at night didn't help. Mostly it was just a boring job, but that environment could certainly inspire one's sense of being watched, followed, etc...

1:08:04. it's a tengu mask. Tengu are supernatural beings in Japanese folklore that are often depicted as bird-like creatures with human characteristics. They are a type of yōkai, or Shinto kami, and are known for being both protectors and tricksters.

I find it interesting that you don't really like it when you know things that your playable character doesn't. And in terms of you playing Black Snow 9 days ago, you also don't really like it when your playable character knows things that you don't. It's a very interesting middle ground.

Avoid comment until watched im guessing possible ending spoiler. I've already figured this out old non verbal man weird no family nomination yeah think I've hit the nail on the head there I like Japan but I'll never go there but this way I can explore it in a kind of way probably one of my biggest reasons being a gamer a among many other reason too many. Japanese closet so damn nerve-racking found myself hiding one for ages siren blood curse so in Crimson butterfly I think it was a hand drop down or a face was seen of a ghost in there People keep entering his house fools a crow with a paperclip yep I thought it was a paperclip I think it's family has been eaten by him much more open now isn't it before you didn't know what to do now they're all all the items are coming thank you and you're getting objective straight off. Japan girls aren't very smart they should stay out of dark alleys right YES let the homicide begin that was a good comment btw Pity it wasent live chat I chose scissors first I alway go scissors rock paper wait why'd I just blow my tac tic time to up my style if ever challenged. Best illegal drug smarties Yeah I know surprise they want you to walk the streets taking all the hard work they put in so not to see it wasted though for instance if you use an out about camera on some games they go from miles just goes to show unused textures if that were it was there but it just won't used it wouldn't press it to some of them going too far away from the Game Zone they get so Glitchy like you know areas where you can afford through the map if you're not hovering through a no clip. Morphine damn what is he up to that's not the low-level week stuff either high-powered pain relief any can't use it usually at home or get it in a shop anywhere don't think I can't even get it on prescription. A nosy looter but at least you'll get the job done and you know everything about it I'm the same eavesdrop a lot on games so. A taste of the apartment I see they used that they were pleased with that game what service can I looks like siblings I forgot the name best I don't say it's not really for a it's not PG friendly h***** Take anything that isn't nailed down also have fridges open or is it the freezer imagine using VR to carry the mug it be pouring the tea everywhere but it probably work ok well she survived the Encounter at the house guess she's out of the picture but the truth die with her and now another might have to die to find out these evil beings really do know how to keep it quiet Oh yeah it's raining it's like where's the back door in the back🥴🥴🥴 Rain in Games Deadly premonition or heavy rain both involve horror towards rain no wonder you like to go inside as it may not be safe outside but it gives you a chance to test out and see you if you have to go out in it and if you use an umbrella in the textures and all that stuff Why is this gonna end up being all a big dream. Wait the monk invited the other one not your character right if I remember correctly There was a green question mark appeared to Oh now I'm definitely getting fatal frame vibes how and why did the old man order a car crank Cultist what letter can I hide in the darkness you might want to turn your torch off I don't think it's a hiding part though 10 o clock I bet Is the old guy a monk or was he the monk
