I think a better way to phrase the where was it banging question is this: if you assume the universe can expand or contract, that implies the universe has borders. But what is beyond the border of the universe. And he's right it aint nothing like the vacuum of space, because that's the abscense of matter, what we're talking about is the absence of space itself. And we'll literally never know, because it is physically impossible to reach the border of the universe, definitely for us where we exist in space, but also maybe for any physical object
