Great Akita! I could never have mine unleashed but he was abused as a pup. Just lost the lad but he made it to 13. Socialization is key and making sure they know who is boss. Good luck with him and stay safe.

Just got a female Akida a week ago currently own three other dogs. Akida very different in behavior than other dogs. Hoping to get a male similar to coloring as yours. I have a male uncut with similar markings. I have had three other males akitas two were 150lbs 28in tall. My last one was 130lbs 30in tall. I have always signed a contract that stated if the pup was not cut within a year they would take the pup back. I never signed one this time.

Hello...in my recommendation..Your Luca is absolutely gorgeous. I’m in ❤️ with American Akita. I had a female for 14yrs brown/tan/cream and she was thee BEST dog ever...🥰. I so miss my big baby so gentle, loyal, very protective, smart etc., but I didn’t like the blowing 🤦🏾‍♀️. Overall the BEST BREED I’ve ever had. Very stubborn at times 😂🤣

i got my Akita 5 months ago and its insane to me on how big hes grown,especially if there a male they get Huge and mines looks like just yours but more white markings on the back and a slightly shorter tail,and sometimes he acts like a cat by using those big paws of his, and sense its turning winter his coat is gonna be thicker and hes gonna be thicker hes gonna look amazing.Make sure you take good care your that bear of a dog.

Yes, my Akita weighed in at 180!! I got him in 1988 he passed in 1996 and I gave birth to my first human child 1 month after his passing. Best protector ever!! Loyal, loving my big bear!! R.I.P !!

i have an akita and have had several in the past. when you tell your akita to sit or to do anything. he has to do it or there is no move on. he actually didn't sit. he was scratching his head. he has to do it at the moment you tell him the command.

Im so sad for you i have just replaced my third male. What helped me is writing down all the things i could remember about them. Little things like the funny look they would get sometimes and big things like stalking while they hunted. The real help was getting another one. I am always scared to replace the love of my life but strange thing is you WILL love again. RIP I hope you find comfort from your loss.

Agreed give her time. On my 3rd Akita now and took her till 15 wks to start being affectionate after training phase round 1 was complete. Once you set your boundaries and Alpha these bears can be awesome loyal love bugs but not great for 1st time owners as you got to firmly but not aggressively break the barrier of dominance. GOODLUCK!

Amish run puppy mills. I encourage you to socialize and train your Akita well. They probably did little with her but she is still a puppy so hopefully you are doing all this and things are going better by now. Your local AKC club may have cheap training classes.

Dana, I've read the responses to your comment. It's about the level of training. Simple commands, sit, paw, lay down, drop it. You're in charge of teaching the dog proper behavior (we all went through behavior training as well). If something isn't right, you correct it immediately. You'll be living with the Akita, see what natural behavior is like, the level of obedience to you, and it's a judgement call after that. Can you trust a large Akita with a small animal? Maybe. A child? Maybe. An adult? Maybe. An Akita may see a small animal as prey... It's too late then. A child, or uneducated adult may approach the Akita in a manner that is perceived as threatening, aggressive... And your Akita, including you, will be blamed for the incident that follows. Your Akita may lose its life, by law, afterward. So caution is recommended, it's your Akita, not a plush toy for strangers. A complete stranger comes at you, their face is too close to yours, and they're not stopping, what's your reaction as an adult? As a child, you can run, or depend on the fact your parents are there beside you. A dog has one option, to use it's mouth, which has teeth that grow as they grow. I've never owned a dog. What I said, has been learned through extensive research, because I'm thinking of getting an Akita.

I would say it depends on how well you train the akita. The Akita can be curious and wonder off but they’ll come back. I walk trails with Luca unleashed. Once he ran off to chase a smaller animal but he came back. He always comes back.

Not at all my Akita is very independent and likes to do his own thing. Luca does like to be near me all day but if I’m away he’s fine with that too.
