You're one of the few that I've seen go from a heli to Fixed-Wing. Usually it's the other way around. The flight versatility of helis usually keeps the interest of fixed wing pilots than going the other way around.

Hi Jonathan, So you started out with helis. My first heli was a fixed pitch DuBro Shark back in 1975. No heli radios back then and no gyros. A gust of wind flipped it inverted and not enough height to roll out. Later bought an Hirobo Shuttle ZX and had fun with it. Next up were Schluter Champion and Scout. Both .60 powered. Was going to enter my first contest Sept. 91 and last August was involved in an auto accident that caused a serious back injury. That's another story. You and Katie stay safe.

More or less looking to see if there was anything that I should change to settings. One viewer mentioned my tail gain is still high as he could hear the tail fighting. That type of stuff. from what I remember 10 years ago with my Align 700 Nitro the mid stick for pitch feels very blank or soft. so I would like to get that setting figured out.
@westhobbiesrc80513 жыл бұрын
@@thelightersideofrc Yes lower tail game you could definitely hear it fighting in the video. As far as your pitch feeling soft around mid stick try going into the advanced menus and upping your pitch boost. That will give you a more solid cyclic feel and help with the pitch feeling blank. Also in the advanced menu look up pirouette pre-comp I seen in the video pirouette did it look consistent meaning the tail would stop for millisecond halfway around. Raise the number up. You can also go in and set your cyclic response for your to your idle up modes to you’re liking. Great to see you back into helis!

I know the pain of the JR radio setup with the Ikon2 as I have just replaced the flybarless unit on my Soxos DB7 and has made such a huge difference to the stability of the heli. I think I spent about an hour sorting out the channels and XG14 to what I wanted. The RG012BX RX is a brilliant receiver for helis, being such a small full range receiver :) Welcome back to helis!

That was pretty nice for such a long time. Been flying for about 6 years helis only and due to weather I don't fly on winter so when I go back into "flying season" I am always super uncomfortable. That looked like you were really doing well so congrats. I flew iKon/Brain for some time (not anymore) and your tail issue may be mechanical. Usually fast wags can be corrected with the main P gain. But slow wags, most often than not, are mechanical. You can probably try to tune them out but it's much better to have a good mechanical setup. Make sure your push tail rod at center tail servo position is exactly halfway travel on the tail shaft. Adjust the length as necessary or move your servo arm or change to a different hole on the servo arm. Also you have to make sure your tail is butter smooth. Take off the little dog bone linkages on the tail from the tail blade grips and make sure the slider is falling on its own weight without any friction. You can use very low grit sandpaper to sand the shaft slightly until that happens. Then make sure your dog bones are not too tight. You can move them around a bit to loosen them up a bit. Disconnect your push tail rod and the tail fully assembled should move very smoothly. Then make sure you tune your main P gain. Do "speed passes" aka fast forward flight left to right and try to stop it at each end. Keep increasing your main gain in about 5 point increments until you get a fast wag. Then drop down 5 points and your main gain should be set. You can play around a bit with the "I" gain after this if after perfect mechanical setup the tail is "loose". Since I saw you are trying tic tocs that is a very good maneuver to see if the tail is loose or not. The tail should remain on its place always while you bang on the sticks back and forth. Try to do "rainbows" which are slow tic tocs and "stop" the heli with collective at each end. If that feels strange or uncomfortable, do flips. Flip from upright to inverted and stop. Try to work out how much collective you need to just stop the heli at the same altitude. The hard collective stop should let you know if the tail is holding fine or not. Sounds more work than what it is, though. I hope you have integration/telemetry on JR, as Spektrum with the proper telemetry receiver you can program the unit from the radio itself and not have to connect to a computer each time you want to make a gain or parameter adjustment. So there you go hope these few tips help you out. Cheers!

that's too bad because the AR7210 is a great unit. I love that it is a Rx and FBL unit all in one...way less wires. the only downside is that you really need to purchase the upgraded advanced firmware to make it sing. next I'm going to install the bluetooth module so I can change settings right from my phone or eventually from the tablet built into the ix20. I too am one of those guys that started in helis and moved to fixed wing but still fly both regularly. I love the challenge of scale helis but airplanes are probably a little more fun. cheers!

The way you fly seems a lot more “fixed wing friendly”, as in I think we could fly together, we have A problem where we fly that we have dedicated areas for helicopters that those pilots don’t use, and spend the whole time either doing extreme 3D, hovering or constant auto rotations. Which is fine, just not in the middle of an active fixed wing runway, if they got into the circuit and did loops, rolls, pirouettes, TickTocks, and what I would call a “stall turn” then I would have no issues flying with them
