#pilatus #PC-6 # turbine The MR.Aerodesigns Giant Pilatus PC-6 Turbo Porter build continues! In this 7th episode in the series we wrap up the horizontal stab system with the finishing touches. Float mount install begins. A Huge step for me is accomplished with the installation of the turbo prop mount/front former. This was one of the most stressful things for me to acomplish and it's done! I also talk about all the different glues and adhesives I use, hysol, loctite, carpenter glue, west systems 610 six 10, medium, thin and thick CA (Cyanoacrylate), Gorilla Glue, etc The Magnetic Build tables is working perfect! Your doing amazing job so far. And great job with videos. Something I learned with poly glue. Rely more on a good joint than the foam. The foam isn’t that strong at all. But poly glue on tight joint is amazing

Jonathan, worked with epoxy for a dozen years in a wooden boat facility, talking to the chemist when facts were needed, so I know a little bit about the pros as well as the cons of this “glue “. I wonder if you have done any testing for the pros of the polyurethane glues, I.e. my use for hinges in giant scale RC airframes, a breath in the hole was more than enough to catalyze the glue, my problem was learning how much of it to use! Open hole vs. closed, enough vs. way too much- that I should have done test samples first. Worked, the squeeze out was manageable, but it definitely worked better than epoxy once that I learned the characteristics of the new glue. Your experience? Loving the build! Always wanted to see a turboprop after QQ showed that it was possible, looking forward to seeing this one fly.
@thelightersideofrc

Overall i'm definitely a fan of epoxy with different additives or Aero epoxies like Hysol but the poly glues do have advantages in certain applications like glueing hinges in where they will expand and take up the space on the ribs of a robart hinge like you mentioned. Thickened epoxy does well too by you don't get the expansion like Poly's

Maybe the camera angle but it appears the propshaft is not on the centre line. I notice you do not have a center line between the outer fuse lines. The center of the propshaft and spinner should be in the the middle of the fuse. The REAR of the motor should be offset to the port side as much as is required to position the spinner, shaft at the centre line. Other wise the front of the fuse will have a curve to the starboard side . This will shape the front of the fuse to the right or starboard side and therefore the fuse sides from front to rear will not be symmetrical but asymmetrical. The aircraft will not fly straight but want to go around corners. Same applies for the down thrust. The shaft should exit the front af the fuse at the correct thrust line position and the rear of the motor should be raised at the firewall to suit.

Welcome to the channel! Thanks for checking it out. No specific video's on the mag table but early (maybe the first video) in the PC-6 Series I talk about it. It's simply a magnetic whiteboard. I got 2 at an auction about 10+ years ago. I just took the trim around the outside off and works great!

Do you have any brand preferences in glue? Also, what do you use for things that need fast progression, but also strength (such as elevator or wing ribs)? Right now I am using CA, and going back with epoxy, but am not sure if that is the most efficient way to do it.
@thelightersideofrc
@thelightersideofrc 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Grant. Pretty much explain it during glue section. Basically super fast is CA. Not as strong as something like 5 Min Hysol. It really comes down to using and experimenting with each adhesive to find out what it suitable. Basically any epoxy (even the 5 min stuff) really needs to set for 24+ hours to be overly usefull.

Another great progress video of this build Jonathan. Good tip for gorilla glue (yellow) that I learned recently...if you need to fill a large volume/void you can mix it with pva/wood glue, expands many times more than usual and sticks really well. Also very important in the turbine area to segregate the hot sections from the cool intake to ensure the engine does not ingest warm air. Also if you look at the Xicoy version it has an external cnc frame to ensure zero longitudinal flex. Not sure how the KT engine achieves it but probably worth looking into. Lucien’s video is probably worth a look here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/laa9pYh-aZeUe5o There are also many other useful hints and tips on Lucien’s YT channel from years of Turboprop experience 😁
@thelightersideofrc
@thelightersideofrc 3 жыл бұрын
That's a great tip on the glue! Thanks for sharing that. I have watched Lucien's videos and he is sharing some great information! its very helpful. I have been thinking alot about the Cowl area and it will probably be one of the areas I tackle last so i have some more time to think about what is best... The KT engine lacks the frame but has the front mount area. I do think Xicoy did this right! Best sollution we have for the KT engine is to stiffen the area as much as possible between the front and rear mounting areas.
