Whoa. Wait you set the CG with the retracts down?. Won't that make her tail heavy when they go up?. I used the lightest weight wheels and tires I could find and my Corsair shifts Soo much when my retracts go up
@thelightersideofrc
@thelightersideofrc 4 жыл бұрын
Brian Emery possibly but with the C of G range it should be fine. We do the same thing with our jets. Set the C of G in the landing setting.

Always better to add weight to firewall. When added to the cowl it ends up being a large weight forward of the fastening point of the cowl. Motor vibrations will cause this weight to vibrate the cowl with more force than an unweighted cowl which results in movement at the screws at attachment point and it will wear the fiberglass around the screw resulting in the screw holes getting bigger and bigger and the cowl moving more and more. You won't know it's happening until it becomes obvious and needs repairs. Just been my experience, but I've seen it in others planes as well as mine. I no longer add weight to cowls only to the airframe.
@thelightersideofrc
@thelightersideofrc 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments and suggestions. Fortunately with this plane there is an attachment former system so nothing is going through the cowl. I was definitely Leery about the suggestion in the manual to add the weight to the Cowl. all in all I added probably 15-20% of the weight that I could have to the cowl. I wouldn't have felt comfortable adding more.

Great job on this Corsair man! Next time buy fishing weights. Cheaper then destroying ammo. Plus ammo, is not cheap! It is ultimately up to you though.

Why don’t you use steel shot? It’s heavier than lead.

Steel is not heavier than lead, this is very poor advice that I hope you haven't been following yourself. A simple Google search will confirm this and yields the following results:Steel is less dense than lead. The pellets weigh one-third less than lead pellets of the same size. Steel retains less energy and may not kill birds cleanly at the same ranges. ... Compensate for the lighter weight by using a shot one or two sizes larger than the lead shot size. This is easily verified. That info is a direct cut and paste from Google.

I think every corsair I've had, from 900mm wingspan to 60 inch wingspan has required nose weight, even when using a larger motor than recommended. The bigger they were the more weight they needed. I was shocked by the amount the largest one needed, but it was correct and flew fantastic.
@thelightersideofrc
@thelightersideofrc 4 жыл бұрын
@@shelbyseelbach9568 it sure feels odd having to add so much weight but of course by nature of the design of the full scale it's necessary.

@thelightersideofrc
@thelightersideofrc 4 жыл бұрын
Billy Knight I actually got it as partial payment for weathering a plane but I believe they sell for about $300 USD. It also has the ability to do surface matching of angles if you get the attachments that read angles.

Are you some kind of engineer? The reason I ask is the process you used to balance the airplane. Seems to be a complicated process Just saying Holymolley 5 LBS nose weight? Move something forward.
@thelightersideofrc
@thelightersideofrc 3 жыл бұрын
+Stunt Hangar no. Not an engineer. Should have been I suppose. Yea it was a lot but not crazy for this type of aircraft. All the heavy stuff was as far forward as possible.
