Yeah, he'd done a fair bit of work before Thelma and Louise. Some uncredited work really early on in his career and some TV acting. I was too young when this movie came out, so the first thing I ever saw Brad do was a couple of episodes of Growing Pains. Glad he got the part of J.D. Ever since I first saw the movie, I've always thouught he made the character very memorable.

They're also used in filming all the time. Besides keeping dust down, it also just makes the road look nice and shiny on camera, or maybe it's needed for special effects for rain shots, or maybe for safety if it's super hot out and you're shooting in a fire danger area. I don't know how that one got in the shot though. Maybe it was an accident, or maybe it wasn't even theirs, it was like they said, and it just randomly happened to be there, but usually they'd have traffic stopped while they're shooting. Maybe someone just thought it looked cool, and or it visually accentuated the fact that it's hot!

15:26. Okay, now Ashleigh is just pushing my buttons. Yes, we had fingerprinting in 1990. And in 1980, and 1970, and all the way back to the dawn of the detective era, and in 1910 they were first used in a court case to prove a criminal had touched a painted rail. They could prove that fingerprints matched. What they didn't have until the modern computer era was a database of fingerprints.

Me watching Ashleigh watching the first few minutes and thinking this is a light hearted road trip movie...🤣🤣🤣😭😭💔 Excited to see what you think. Edit After Watching: I still tear up watching this movie. The storyline is so well crafted and the growth they go through is amazing. When this movie came out, there was nothing like it. Two female leads. Two redheaded female leads. If you read Geena Davis' book, she will tell you about all the harshness this movie got by critics for promoting violence while movies like Lethal Weapon who tripled all of the deaths, explosions and gunfire was hailed as a good time. She will also tell you that meeting Susan changed her life because their friendship carried over and Susan showed her how to find her inner Louise to stand up for herself. Its one of my favorite movies of all time. My best friend and I have matching tattoos with sunglasses that say 'let's keep going'.

This movie has one of the most iconic endings in movie history. Also, a word on Goodbye Earl that I was just thinking about. You said something like "They're both so pretty" or "They're both so beautiful." Which immediately brought to mind two comparable but very different movies. 1. Bonne and Clyde with Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway. I think all 5 main characters were nominated for Oscars (rightfully so), but only Estelle Parsons won for Best Supporting Actress. A much earlier film and at least as equally ground-breaking. Yet no one ever reacts to it. So you can be a ground-breaker, too! 2. Something Wild with a very young Jeff Daniels, a very young Melanie Griffith and a very young (pre-Good Fellas) Ray Liotta. Probably less ground-breaking but a whole lot of fun, an equally skewed story and a great soundtrack. Equally un-reacted to. React to either of them and I'll send you a shiny quarter.

I think you watched "Tootsie" at one point, which had Geena Davis in it. That's the one where Dustin Hoffman's character dressed as a woman to get a part on a daytime soap opera. One thing that unfortunately may have ruined her career was starring in "Cutthroat Island" in 1995, which was one of the biggest box office flops ever. A film she starred in the following year, "The Long Kiss Goodnight", was okay, but it fell a little short of expectations. This may have had partially to do with the performance of the previously mentioned film.

I remember when this movie first came out. There was a lot of buzz - and it created some really heated conversations between men and women. The thing is, a lot of women were very touched by this movie, and some were deeply and emotionally affected - largely, I think, because of the rape scene. While men were generally dismissive of the theme, and made jokes about it, like, "Those women drivers!" and "Can't wait for the sequel." Men had no idea of the earful that was coming their way, from the women who saw the film. _Thelma and Louise_ was a big topic of conversation in bars right after it came out. Just about everyone had seen it - and everyone wanted to talk about it. It was a real movie sensation, which is an extremely rare thing nowadays. Watching this movie in a dark theater, on a giant screen, has a much bigger psychological effect, than watching it at home. Ridley Scott, the director, created something very special here - that people talked about for a month.

I agree. And the men making fun of the film are only highlighting one of the points it raises. Thelma and Louise are so inundated with toxic men, like the would-be rapist, Daryl and JD, that they can't trust in Harvey Keitel, the one good guy trying to help them.
@mxbishop
@mxbishop Жыл бұрын
@@roonarific1086 Well said. Men did not come off well at all in _Thelma and Louise_ which I think explains why so many men made fun of it - rather than looking any deeper into their own behavior towards women. When men made fun of the movie - women made sure they regretted it.

@@mxbishop I feel the same way about the movie Falling Down. Some think Michael Douglas is an unhinged and scary wackjob....but the reality is that WHEN QUESTIONED by a policeman, his ex-wife says she got a restraining order NOT because he hit her or hit their daughter but because she THOUGHT he might. He was a man who followed all the rules and got crapped on his whole lfe. The ex-wife TOOK THE MAN"S child away from him on a "bad feeling." How far would a person go if you take away their child for no legitimate reason? Just like with Thelma and Louis, In the end, the opposite gender pushed too far and was met with violence. The villainous gender in both movies is rarely claimed by the gender.

My sister in law started calling them Thelma and Louise because we never knew what kind of trouble they were gonna get into and we hoped they stayed away from cliffs haha. Treated like sex objects or possessions and it feels like there are no good choices besides being arrested or going into the canyon. Some people said it was ridiculous, it was overly dramatic. Of course it was. Very few of us have ever had to drive into a canyon because we murdered our rapist, because usually our rapist simply walks free. 😒 Ohhhh, this did get everyone to talking!
