The construction of this chimney is interesting. The outside is a concrete shell. Inside you have three actual chimneys (one for each boiler). You can see these clearly from the overhead view early in the video. There is also an elevator inside the big "chimney" which stops a several levels. You can step out onto a steel walkway with a grid pattern in it so you can see down and up. I've been inside this chimney and have taken the elevator to several levels to do inspections.

Also, it was designed to look like a lighthouse. I realize they pointed that out in the video but that’s a design choice I find interesting.

Are you aware of chimneys at other plants functioning in the same way?

I like seeing the dust coming out of the chimney as it’s falling over. It’s as if smoke is coming from the top one last time before it’s gone forever. Amazing video as always.

Awesome video, great quality coverage and pinpoint accuracy as usual. I wish you had a schedule/list of upcoming implosions, I’ve always wanted to see one in person.

You know what I especially liked about the demolition? The crisp and clear sound that your microphones picked up as the chimney fell. They turned a realitivly mundane job into a symphony. Your tag line still holds true, “The Art of Demolition.” One question. You had already done 2 heavy jobs on the property. Did you or the GC have to check the stability of the chimney in case there was any damage caused by ground shocks of the other parts hitting the ground hard?

Great shot. I particularly liked the dust and smoke cleared ground aftermath (post demolition) video of the project.

With demise of NJ’s offshore wind projects it makes sense to build a new natural gas power plant at this location as was planned a few years ago.

Woah, those aren't actually windows on top, are they? Oh, I see now. Made to look like a lighthouse. Did it ever have lights in it?

How big of a drop zone do you need to establish for a demolition this large? And then how big of a safety zone do you have to establish beyond that?

its a shame, this VERY BIG chimney, in this special place, coukd be converter easily in a tourist place to go, a lighthouse, an observatory (mid level and on top), and even with a beautifull restaurant (windows on top), at least i think so. Just i think so, because my old city (Bilbao) has a heavy industrial past, converted today in a modern and tourist beautifull city.

Beautiful felling. People of NJ probably going to regret destroying power plants in a few years when they isn't enough electricity to power their homes...but its ok...it'll cost them MILLIONS to build new ones. 🙂

Your anger should be dIrected to the Natural Gas Industry then. Natural gas raised the standards of emissions that coal cannot reach. It's also much more efficient to burn natural gas for power plants. You're blaming green energy but, there has been a boom in combined cycle power plants. I'm pretty sure there were also pissed off training enthusiasts when steam engines became obsolete as well.
