Thanks for uploading this - I've been looking for footage of it for years and I thought it was lost to time! I was 11 years old when this happened I was bummed that I found out about it only after the fact. Huge fan of your work - hope to see more Philly blasts in the near future!

I'm sure that's considered proprietary information. However, there was a great magazine feature article on their demolition of the Sands casino in Vegas in the 1990s. (Anybody here remember which magazine and when?)

CDI is a channel where you place processes from demolition or CDI is a company dealing with demolition by demolition?

Does you team go in and look for undetonated charges before salvage teams move in?
@tomrogers9467 Жыл бұрын
Question from a subscriber here: in almost all of the demo’s you have done, there seems to be an initial series of detonations, which appear to have no result, followed by a pause, then a final series which brings the structure down. I’m interested in the engineering rational behind that. Obviously there is a method here. Thanks.

It's an easy way to recognize a CDI project... I think it's more of a signature than anything else. It also helps build suspense.

It is not simple to explain in a just few words but briefly, the initial bang, bang, bang etc. is the detonating cord trunk lines firing, one trunk line for each row of columns, every column has one or more cutting charges on it. You can't see the cutting charges because they have a small protective wooden box built around them, each cutting charge has a detonator on it with a carefully chosen time delay built in. The order in which these charges fire and the timing is very important for controlling the direction of fall etc. As there is only a limited number time delay numbers available for the dets on the cutting charges, having the rows of columns trunk lines fire sequentially effectively gives you a lot more time delays to play with. The bang, bang, bang also works as an effective system for getting any birds out of harms way.
@tomrogers9467 Жыл бұрын
@@demolitiondavedrillandblast Thank you. You did explain it well in a few words. I didn’t realize that det timing could be that long, I always thought it was just a few msecs. Now we all know!

What a waste. Architecturally super significant, lost forever. Sugar house casino is a negative compared to the cultural significance of this building. The behemoth factories of Philadelphia that have been destroyed are some of the closest things America has built of significance, literally on par with ancient buildings in architectural and historical cultural significance.
