Hello all.
I have strategically set up 2 UHD cameras I'm my Spray room, one filming from above in my booth, and one from the corner of the spray room.
I'm spraying tons of Mdf panels in white silk, and as I do, I talk through all the processes, why, when how etc on literally everything.
Literally nearly everything I know about spraying being self taught.
I'm using a Grace 695 ultra max airless sprayer with a 410 fine finish tip, at around 1200 psi.
Amazing results EVERYTIME
Enjoy
Ryan

HVLP- Waterborne coatings like ML Campbell, Kem Aqua, General finishes, Milese, Lenmar, etc.---all offer coatings that don't need thinned and are explosion proof. Love the booth, gave me great ideas for mine that I am getting ready to build, especially using the adjustable shelving for drying racks!!!! Really like the doors that go back into the walls to separate shop from booth. Awesome.

You make it look way easier than it is. Would love to see you doing the same work with a cheap sprayer and see what results you achieve. I think I've been putting on my first coat too thick. Cheers mate.

Hi Ryan, great video as always. I am interested in how you make your drawers; a video on this would be really helpful is possible. I am an enthusiastic DIY'er that wants to have a go at making some fitted bedroom furniture. Any hints and tips on your way of building cabinets would really help.

Great explanation as always Ryan, spraying is an art form and practice I suppose is key.I’ve just purchased a Graco ultra hand held sprayer. It does use a lot of paint😳.just ordered a314 tip to see if this helps.but this video was really helpful, keep up the great work 👍

I’ve got the Graco Ultra, great sprayer when it works. Had it about 9 months and the pump went. Got it repaired under warranty, when I picked it up they said ‘We’ll see you again in 9 months’...apparently it takes about 20-25 litres of paint spraying through it before the pump goes...

@@andyjames8612 thanks , it’s good to know , did you use it often? They say each pump lasts about 200 Lts🤞

@@paulmccarthy424 yeah sorry I worded that wrong, should have said it takes about 20-25 cups before the pump goes. I use mine once or twice a month, it’s such a good gun that I was going to buy another one just so I could alternate it. I only spray good quality paints, Tikkurila or Benjamin Moore which are quite thin compared to Dulux

Hi I’ve just got a graco gxff to spray a set of sliding sash windows that I’ve made. Probably a little to complex a shape to learn on. Wow it certainly puts down a lot of paint. Probably need to get the paint and the workshop warmer and go a little faster to avoid so many runs. Still a lot of fun learning something new.

That's good you have taken the plunge, with practice you will.get used to.its characteristics etc. Start your sprayer low psi possibly 700 or 800 and work your way up, a quick burst each time on a bit of scrap cardboard/paper/wood etc. Keep going until you get a good pattern and it feels right. With emulsions I generally work around 1200 psi, any lower and it sprays/ covers to slow for me/large panels. Perhaps lower will be perfect for your sashes. A few tips i would say is use a fine finish tip, possible as low as a 308 ( i use 310 and 410 for most my work but the 08 has an ever so slightly orifice so less paint comes out). Do more coats, each one being a mist coat, a light dust, dontbtry and cover a sash in 2 coats, id say at least 4. Spray further away from your work and move faster to avoid puddleing and drips. Defo heat in the room, but don't aim directly at the piece if using intense heat such as a space heater. Half overlap, and just keep practicing your technique. I started like you about 7 years ago with no knowledge and have kind of self taught my self most of this, so it will come to you. 😁

Hello thank you! I would advise on an eggshell finish. I use a brand called johnstones and i only use waterbased due to my machines.. Best place to buy paint is the paint shed 👍

Thanks for the video learnt a lot from that, I’m struggling to cover the internal edge of the shaker door great advice , Feel like I’m using tons of primer and top coat , how many litres would you typically use on a 4 door wardrobe with only hanging space and shelving I’d love to know when I used to roll farrow and ball egg shell I’d never use 5 litres but

@@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop hey Ryan, thanks for the reply. So I'm going to give this a go on a small project just curious to know would you recommend sanding between coats? Is there any brands you'd recommend or stay away from?
@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop
@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop 3 жыл бұрын
Thats ok, my technique is de nib after first coats lightly with p240 then do my 2nd and 3rd coats straight after. It would do no harm sanding in between every coat though. I sometimes do 4 coats too 👍 Johnstones is always good for me, just don't buy basics value paint and you will be fine with an airless 👍

Asking for help from anyone - I am only starting out with spraying, been building for almost 20 years. Once you have about 3 layers of satin or eggshell on, do you guys finish with a clear varnish to give it that tough durability to withstand day to day use? Thanks in advance

Great video mate. How do you go about leaving them drying in your workshop (winter time) do you keep the heat at a certain temperature through the night? Cheers
@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop
@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop 3 жыл бұрын
Hi no I don't use heat at night, my water based paint usually dries within an hour or so with my space heater on then leave on the racks over night with no heat. This is usually enough to be able to flip the pieces over the next day

Just a little thank you video and a couple of question photos.app.goo.gl/EHEHUG1p6RW3zz5t5 What brand/type (eggshell etc) paint do you prefer for the finish coat? Is there any reason to not use dark coloured paints? Ta!
@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop
@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the video and the really nice comments! I prefer eggshell for sure, I use johnstones alot and I can really fault them. I nearly always use water based. I spray my paints and they go on thick, hence my problems with dark colours (I think) so I dont think you will have problems with a dark colour if applying by hand.
