it's like connecting to the spirts without ego, without parenting or trauma. there's nothing between him and his connection to source and he has an almost undefinable way to express it through the vibrating air of Jazz. His combo is able to get on the frequency with him and tap in. This has go to be one of the most inspired recorded performances I've ever experienced. I just started listening him to him in 2023 and he's elevated my life.

“Solo Monk”, recorded between October 31, 1964 and March 2, 1965, was Thelonious Monk's eighth album with Columbia Records. Even though he released several solo albums, each one meriting particular attention, “Solo Monk” arguably stands tall as his very best unaccompanied album. 1:40 [Thelonious Monk Site]

Monk’s playing style is very unique, using sparse voicings and omitting notes to add dissonance. Another distinctive element of his playing is an extremely strong time feel. His soloing usually relies on motifs and is often based on the melody of the song. [PianoGroove]

Few musicians have had such a distinctive sound, nor such an iconic presence, as jazz pianist Thelonious Monk. He was an accomplished piano player who deliberately stripped back his technique to create a style that is spare, abstract, wilful, witty, angular and lyrical. 2:56 [Jazzfuel]

Thelonious Monk /A great inventor, an innovator in spite of himself, without calculations, all to his genius this Thelonious Monk of my heart with his very particular piano technique, his percussive way of tapping on the black and white keys of the keyboard with his hands like rackets and his fingers like drumsticks, his harmonic finds from the other sphère, his own and uncompromising swinging, his melodic honesty that goes from the most obvious, the most elegant, to the most dramatic of the singing of a black piano, the melancholy Around Midnight etc ... then he can do the bear dance around his black piano without being taken for a madman, but for a genius, a good genius who holds us by the goatee, a saviour of the homeland of the soul and the heart. Thank you so much for your music, always dear Thelonicous!
