To all the people commenting about this patient's teeth. Please be sensitive to the patient's feelings. People can be quite self-conscious about their smile and not everyone can access orthodontic care. It is usually a bit financial burden. We have a Smile In Need Program at our practice (The Look Orthodontics) where this patient along with a few others was selected from a large pool of people to receive FREE orthodontic care. It is our way of giving back to the community and use the opportunity to educate the public about the benefits of orthodontic care.

Hi Mai. This patient had severe crowding. They had some teeth removed FIRST. Then braces fitted. Sometimes we fit braces first where there may be a chance we do not need teeth removed. But each case is different. Hope this helps.

Sure, you always have a chance to have braces. In fact speak to your orthodontist because sometimes if it is an option to have a bad tooth removed, and close up all the spaces for your best orthodontic result.

@@laviniapopa5633 U will feel nothing at first when they put it but yesterday night I felt pain after having tortillas at dinner , be careful while chewing,eat food that can be easily chewed like rice and also don't keep chewing your teeth for no reason. Also tell the dentist to give you painkillers because you will feel pain for next two three days.

For all those asking if it hurts, well yes and no. It doesn't hurt when braces are being put on, neither does it hurt later on. However, the next day it will be slightly painful. Force is being applied to your teeth so yes it is gonna pain. Anyway so the pain goes on increasing for about 4-5 days and you might not be comfortable eating most things. The pain is not unbearable though. You'll be fine with a paracetamol. I didn't use any, not until now because I hate oral medications. My point, the pain isnt that bad. After 4-5 days however, it won't be painful at all. Nothing at all. I got my braces last month but I didn't get them on all at once. It was in batches so it hurt everytime braces were put on to a different set of teeth. If you get it done all at once, you won't have to go through it over and over again. And yes you have to adjust! You gonna have a completely different jaw structure, let alone permanent. Remember, NO PAIN NO GAIN. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk bye its 4:42 am. Edit- I'm three months into braces and I'm not sure but I'll try and get back to the comment at the end of the year (2020) just to share my overall experience. I'm really worried about staining my teeth. It's 4:02 am and I have a test in the morning ugh I need to sleep. Oh and feel free to drop any questions, I'll try my best to answer. Edit 2- I won't be answering any question about the "pain" because I think I've emphasized it enough. Any other questions are welcome. Edit 3- It's January 2021. My orthodontist said my Braces will be removed in April 2021.😭 Edit 4- Today is 27th February 2022. My braces were removed on 10th may 2021. So it's been aalmost a year. I had my braces on for a year and half. It was a great experience. Only advice is please wear your retainers or else your teeth are gonna shift back. It happened with me. All the best if you wanna get it. Would definitely recommend.

Please think; these people think it’s simple because they went through years of education and learning for it. Then they have a orthodontists practice which costs salaries, electricity, taxes, insurence etc, etc. On top of that there are the materials used. Still think it’s expensive? It’s a lot of money, not expensive. Expensive implies that it’s too high of a price for what you get, and in this case, you get straight teeth for life for the price you pay. I’d say it’s a good fucking deal.

Willem I understand your point but some people are unable to pay for it as it is too much and in places such as England all healthcare is free and the NHS (national health service) still need to pay for all of those funds. The NHS budget does partially come out of taxes but everyone has to pay those. England also do have private hospitals etc. that you have to pay for but all that means is you get help faster and your own room - not in a ward if you are staying in the hospital but these are still significantly cheaper.

@@khushal7710 You get some pain from having the braces put first time. It wasn’t too bad as you get used to having them on your teeth and the pain does go away. It’s just you have to go in regularly to get them redone as the braces straighten your teeth.

I had braces put on me in 2018. My teeth were worse looking than the persons in this video did. In 2021 I finally got them removed and my smile is comparable to that of a models. Braces do wonders! It’s worth the pain at the beginning of wearing them (not too much pain, just an aching feeling.)

Debor Shine you guys it all depends on who you are. For most people, it hurts most the first 2 days. Actually getting the braces on doesn’t hurt at all, but it gets worse before it gets better. And once it gets better, all you have to worry about is tightening.

To anyone who shared their entire braces story in the comments and said that it DIDN’T hurt for them, all I can say is that man, you are soo lucky!! This November 14 it will be exactly 1 year that I am wearing braces and I go to my orthodontist every month to change my wires and make adjustments and all that. Let me tell you, the pain has ALWAYS been bad for me the first few days every time I get them changed. I got them changed yesterday, and let me tell you I WENT THROUGH HELL AND BACK and I still am right now while writing this. As if changing the plain wire wasn’t enough pain, this time he added power chains, TWO springs, and he changed the way I wear my rubber bands. Sometimes I go to the bathroom and start crying there so nobody sees me. Yes, it’s that bad and no, I’m not exaggerating. I actually have a high pain tolerance (usually). The only thing I can tell myself to reassure myself is that it’ll be worth it. Now excuse me while I go to the bathroom and start crying.

Anyone that’s worried about getting braces on read this please - firstly I have really bad pain tolerance and I felt NO PAIN and NO DISCOMFORT AT ALL The first few days will be a bit weird but ya get used to it Brushing is easy ish but will hurt a bit as teeth are sensitive first few days I heard it was hard to eat at first YES IT IS😂 I tried eating a crisp and it was the worst 5 seconds of the entire thing but I guess if ya don’t try it ya won’t know so I kinda do recommend it cos it’ll be the worst pain of it all so everything after it will all be fine 😂 That wax is a godsend use it and get two packs of it if you can u use it rlly fast or order some online Everything is fine Chill out It won’t be long till ya got em off and the first 8 weeks FLY BY The pretty colours and straight teeth at the end are completely worth it :D

Thank you for this video - I am 68 years of age and my teeth are the SAME as this brave young man. I have never been able to afford orthodontic dental treatment. However, now ... I am able to afford it. My appointment for exam is early November. According to my Dentist - my teeth are perfect condition, no decay, no cavities ... but ... they are NOT straight! It's NOT fun having teeth like this fine young man - I know! And ... I am in sales! It's been a very tough life being in sales and not being able to smile like so many people are able to. Brings this old man to tears when I think that maybe ... just maybe I'll be able to smile with confidence that so many of you take for granted. God Bless this young man - very brave very strong.

One criticism I have about most orthodontists and dentists is that they give their patients toothbrushes that are WAY TOO BIG, and bristles that are WAY TOO HARD for anyone’s mouths, including adults and patients of all ages with crooked teeth and/or braces. With a brush that is as big as the orthodontist is using on that mouth model, it’s a wonder that anyone with crooked teeth and or braces can effectively remove food particles and plaque from their teeth and gums. I have a dentist in Colorado who gives patients the perfect size toothbrush to use that has soft, gentle bristles including bristles around the brush that are slightly longer to remove food particles from the mouth. These are the GUM brand 505 Summit soft or the GUM brand 468 super tip subcompact soft. If you can’t find these toothbrushes at your local store, they can be ordered on Amazon.

I think the toothbrush used in the demonstration was just a demo brush. The packs orthodontists give a patient after getting their braces off is usually small and soft. They will also give cleaning devices to use in between the teeth instead of floss

homero borja well this video was posted in May 2017 so it’s already been a good 2 1/2 years but yeah i agree with you. I had crooked teeth when i got my braces but they weren’t as crooked as his and i’m wearing mine for almost two years now so he probably will have to wear it up to 3-5 years 🤷‍♂️

I’m actually getting my braces tightened for the first time soon, and btw, don’t stress it. Ok here we go: To anyone who is here because they are getting braces on soon I just got my braces on today and don’t worry. It doesn’t really hurt at all at first but then it slowly starts getting worse. Still, I suggest a little ibuprofen when it really starts hurting and it should be bearable. Don’t eat foods you have to swallow, especially if you have an expander, stuff gets stuck really easy and you will need to take baby steps to get used to it. It does take a long time and when you notice they are going in with the water and you have a cold or congestion try to clear out your nose and hold your breath if really necessary. I will be updating this for if/when I notice or remember any key details. My main thing is don’t worry, the pain won’t last, and at first it only feels really weird and you will only need painkiller when you get home (unless you live hours away from your orthodontist lol) Edit 1: omg it’s the next day and USE THE WAX it really helps bc braces really take a layer of your lip I woke up to a lot of pain and was glad to feel it go away because I really didn’t like the bulky, wierd looking wax but now I REALLY wish I had used it more often it’s never too late. Edit 2: the more you eat, the more the braces wear down and hurt less. It’s the second day and I am almost perfectly back in touch. I still can’t say “sachel”, and “insurance”. The last edit I swear: it’s been a two weeks and nothing has changed. So, I guess after the first few days the pain stops! Huh.
