19:50 It was actually stated pretty clear in the in-game lore book. Wukong saw through the true nature of Buddhahood and grew uncomfortable with it. "The more offerings we took, the less for the ones who grow them on the fields." He just doesn't want to be a member of this blood-sucking group of deities anymore. JTTW is a novel based on the Chinese Mythology system, but at the core it was a satirical political literature. Primarily written to show the corruption of the Ming Dynasty bureaucracy in a somewhat subtle way. So for the modern audience, people are just not satisfied that acheiving Buddhahood is the ending of Wukong's story, for he represents the rebellious spirit and should not be so easily tamed by the power high above. So all kinds of adaptations were made about continuing his story against the ruling Celestial Court. And so does BMW as well, it's about us freeing him from his circlet and giving him true freedom to fight against the corrupted Court once more. That's why if the player don't know enough about the corruptions and wrong-doings committed by the Court, the Destined One will be deceived into believing in Buddhahood and "enlightenment" once again and reincarnate as Wukong with the circlet still on.

@@ladjame8109 Wow that's a big topic. Obiviously I cannot know what they were really thinking but here are some possibilties: 1. They simply don't understand what's happening in-game and hate it. 2. Some believe that "enlightenment" and "buddhahood" is more suiting for Wukong, and the game is obviously againt that. 3. Smear campaign for the game. Since, you know, CHYNA, DEI, not WOKE enough, the dev is anti-women, etc. Pick your poison. 4. Some find that Wukong is not a "perfect being" in the game, and are thus angry cuz HE SHOULD BE PERFECT. 5. Some believe the game did not respect the source material enough. Which is the group I personally hate the most. People who claim this did not read more than two chapters of the original JTTW novel.

I was surprised to learn that Guanyin was a no-show in BMW. Considering she played a pivotal part in Wukong's "spiritual awakening"/subservience.
@maxchen91852 ай бұрын
@@kakussubrado8966 She herself showed up in the Chapter 1 ending animation. On the not so direct side, she subdued the Black Bear when he tried to escape with the relic; and seemingly taught Red Boy one of her spells (which was used to subdue Red Boy in the first place), you know, the "kimimaru" one which spikes grow from below. And a players theory is that the Old Monkey in the end was Guanyin, who tried yet again to make us wear the circlet. I personally believe the Old Monkey is more likely to be Tang Monk reincarnated.

I ended up enjoying the game much more afterwards. One thing I feel like the game failed to explain to players unfamiliar with the story of Journey to the West is the importance of Tang Sanzang's Kasaya. It's not just a pretty looking robe; it is a heavenly artifact that was awarded to Tang Sanzang in recognition of his virtue and purity. It serves as a signal of his righteousness, compatibility to become Bodhisattva, and ability to attain Nirvana and because the goal of every monk is to attain Nirvana it is an object of immense admiration. The story of Elder Jinchi's kasaya theft then speaks to him valuing the perception of enlightenment (by owning the kasaya) over actually realizing enlightenment himself.

Good video. One thing that is incorrect: the binding circlet on Wukong's head is fact a gift from Quanyin to the monk after Wukong posed a physical threat to him. The circle is one of the three holy circlets given by Buddha to Quanyin to aid her in the recruitment quest. One circlet for Wukong, one circlets to the Black bear that eventually became her bamboo garden guardian (he's in the game by the way), and one final circlet for Bull demon king's son which she tamed to become her apostle. Each circlet has its own unique chants to shrink and bind the subjects into submission. These circlets are not from the Jade emperor 's court. Source: the novel. I read it yearly since a child .
@vulturepeak2 ай бұрын
The circlets were given by buddha to guanyin for the monk's 3 disciples. Guanyin only used one on wukong, then used the other 2 to grow her own following (controlling black bear and red boy) It is also worth knowing that according to the celestial court, the 五方五老 (5 elders of the 5 areas) has buddha and guanyin each taking up a slot. In the buddhist court yes, guanyin is a rank lower than buddha but in the eyes of the celestial court they are equal in rank. Guanyin has her own agenda.
@andrewgoh81302 ай бұрын
But they were, all of them, deceived, for another circlet was made. In the Western Paradise, in the fires of Thunderclap Monastery, the Buddha forged in secret a Master Circlet, to control all others. Great video on the intro to JTTW. But like one of the other comment stated, JTTW was written to be a political satire, and the game is a reimagination focusing on that aspect, thus "black myth", or a dark story. In this view, the story is about how the strong prey on the weak, and how the strong maintain their power. One needs to view the characters in their hierarchy to see the darkness beneath what meets the eye, to see the gods as the highborn with power and background, to see the yiaoguais as the lowborn everyman like you and I (including wukong). I can raise some questions about each chapter to support this claim: 1. Why does the black wind pled for a punishment to be going back to the budda? 2. Why did the people of the contry of gold turn into rats as soon as they started to worship a rat? Why did yellow wind, someone who genuinely wanted to help people made his own land hell that made people suffer, right after wirnessing Wukong's death? 3. Why did yellow brow who openly talks against the celestial court got away twice while Sanzan who talks the talk and walks the walk had to be punished to be reborn? 4. Bajien is not that dumb, why wouldn't he recognize his own daughter? 5. Why did Wukong tell the bull "To have a master, to do what the gods wishes, that's the only way left for us"? 6. Why was the destined one's journey to revive Wukong helped throughout the game by the gods who wanted to kill Wukong so badly? Why does the old monkey wear the clothes of the gods (the floaty bands around him)? I strongly recommend people to read the stories through this lense. It makes all the small stories in game even more depth. One story that tellse that we should do this was one of the wolf leader's, where he got his leadership because he helped black wind with his nonsensical propaganda. Sorry if I didn't use the right translations, I played in Chinese.

"Journey to the West" is far more than just a fantasy novel. There are lots of thought-provoking sections that could make readers question the authority of Buddha, or even speculate that Buddha is the mastermind behind this journey for ideological expansion. For example, with Wukong's power, if his master truly just wanted to obtain Buddhist scripture, he could just carry his master and "fast travel" by flying back and forth, so why didn't he? That's just one of many illogical settings you can put some serious doubts in.

The protagonist of the manga Dragon Ball, Son Goku, is directly influenced by Sun Wukong. And so is, One Piece's protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy. Both mangas are about the journey of their protagonist who desire nothing more than true and complete freedom, have monkey-like playful and carefree personalities, and also possess Wukong's indomitable will and genius in combat.

The story behind Bajie and Violet Spider seems to go much much deeper. They have a daughter, which is that small spider girl. She has big pig ears in the cutscene. Violet Spider used to be a celestial lady-in-waiting who seemed to harbor secret feelings for Bajie back when he was in the Celestial Court. He also seemed to stumble upon a scandalous adultery between the Moon Lady and some other powerful entity (presumably the Emperor himself). That is why he was banished to Earth, supposedly for his lewd behavior, but actually to silent him. The court lady decided to deliberately follow him to Earth to look for him, reincarnated as the Violet Spider. She was the only lady who loved him for who he was, either when he was a "lowly" admiral in Heaven, or a hideous pig monster on Earth. And yet he keeps abandoning her, either for chasing after others, or to go on the JTTW, even after they shared a daughter. That is why she had become so angry and bitter. Now Bajie has his reason to turn his head away from her as well. He was scared of the Celestial Court and their retribution, first against Violet Spider, and now against their own daughter, if they found out about the relationship.
@kkbaby30Ай бұрын
That was a weird thing I thought of: how is their daughter seemingly younger than the other spider sisters that were birthed by other mates after Bajie and Violet's affair? I mean, it's a story of magic and miracles so I guess anything goes, but I did find it odd that she's like a preteen while the other sister seem to be young women.

It's totally wrong,the true story is: In "Black Myth: Wukong," the story begins after Wukong attains Buddhahood and discovers the secret of the Heavenly Court and Mount Ling. He learns that the elixir of immortality is made using the lives of yaoguais. Unable to accept this truth, Wukong resigns from his position as a Buddha and returns to his hometown. However, the Heavenly Court does not want someone disobedient to exist, so they join forces with five yaoguai kings and Er lang Shen to kill him. Er lang Shen, understanding Wukong, stages a play with him (the opening act). To free himself from the headband, Wukong commits suicide and transforms into six items, hiding his most important thoughts in Erlang Shen's third eye. The chosen one must find the hidden demons (Erlang Shen's followers) in each chapter and ultimately duel Erlang Shen to trigger the true ending, where the chosen one receives Wukong's thoughts, merges with him, and breaks free from the headband."Black Myth: Wukong" is part of a trilogy. The true ending's animation hints at the next installment, which will involve battling the Heavenly Court.

Chapter 4 is not really correct. The matriarch is is still deeply in love with Ba Jie and will not consume him as they both had a daughter (the little spider girl); it is just a bitter love kind of banter. Ba Jie's refusal of her love is not because he don't love her, but because of his curse when he was banished from heaven after witnessing the affair of jade emperor with Taiyin Star Lord, whom in the Chapter's ending cinematic, is who Ba Jie was chasing after at the start. Ba Jie knows if he acknowledges their relationship and love, the celestial court (eastern celestial heavens) will come for him, the matriarch and their daughter. Which is why at the very end, the matriarch mentions that Ba Jie is still the same (Although she dies, she will be reincarnated to become a spider again, and the cycle repeats). In the cinematic, the last verse is: Ba Jie: "Please don't look back" (He don't want her to be hurt in this 100 cycles of pain) Matriarch: "Please remember to look back" (She hopes to see him again, and would not mind dying for the chance for their love to reunite one day)

The story is complicated but interesting. The twist in it I did not see coming and to top it off the voice work and music is really good. The gameplay does take a little bit to get used to it first. (hell) From its inception, " Chinese Buddhism" has been influenced by native Chinese religions and philosophy, especially Confucianism and Taoism, but also Chinese folk religion. Before the emergence of Buddhism, the Chinese did not have the concept of hell. So when the Chinese described hell, they would quote Buddhism. In Chinese Buddhism, all Buddhas are Chinese. Otherwise, the ancient Chinese would not have accepted it. Initially, the ancient Chinese very much rejected Buddhism (which seriously violated the culture and spirit of Taoism and Confucianism. Cutting off hair and being irresponsible to family and work Responsibility). Some interest groups promoted Buddhism in China. Add a lot of Taoist and Confucian culture. Radically transform Buddhism into a Chinese religion. (preserve the content of Buddhist scriptures). Let the ancient Chinese believe that Buddhism is a Chinese religion. Only then can they accept Buddhism. * The only job of ancient Chinese monks was to save the souls of the dead. All Chinese Buddhas and styles are Chinese in China. Their appearance, clothing and culture are all changed to Chinese (or Taoist gods). Some use the same phonetic name. Represent the same function or incarnation. In Chinese Buddhism, everything non-Chinese is excluded (except for the words in Buddhist scriptures). In Chinese Buddhism (Han Buddhism), anyone as long as anyone opens wisdom (let go of desire). He can become Buddha. There is a saying in China: " 放下屠刀立地成佛 A butcher becomes a Buddha the moment he drops his cleaver. "人人都是佛 Everyone is a Buddha. 滿街都是聖人The streets are full of saints.". In history, many ancient Chinese have become Buddhas. So many Buddha statues of different images in China are those ancient Chinese (most of them are monks). -------------------------- Chinese Buddhism and Indian Buddhism are completely different. Even in many countries with Buddhist cultures in Southeast Asia, their Buddhist culture and content are completely different (the difference from Chinese Buddhism is also huge). India's main religion and Buddhism is antagonistic. Ancient Buddhism appeared and developed in a certain place in Asia for only a short time (not today India). But Buddhism has existed in other countries and peoples for hundreds of years. Various Buddhist cultures on the earth have India is not relevant. Indians should not fantasize about the whole world.

This game excelled where God of War: Ragnarok fell. The amount of gods and beasts…the amount of combat, the design of the deities, and the story was so much better. God of War 2018 was so good and Ragnarok fell so flat. I’m really happy this was as good as it was.

Many false details here. I stopped watching when it failed to mention the time he spent in eternal fire accidentally gave him another layer of immortality, whilst making his eyes more sensitive. The sensitive eyes debuff turned out to be useful as it can see through any disguise. Also, it was guan yin, the female buddha that gave wukong's master the shrinking headband.

One thing that I hate about this game is that they strip him from his Buddha hood and take his immortality away because he gained immortality through training from his master and also from the holy peaches so just dumb it’s just dumb, but I get it the story you had to story somehow but now it could’ve done something better
