THESE SONGS WILL MAKE YOU BELIEVE IN WHAT DOES NOT EXIST THAN WHAT EXISTS, WHILE YOU WASTE YOUR TIME IMAGINING THE EXISTANCE OF WHICH WAS NEVER THERE AND THEN YOU FEEL SAD FOR SOMETHING THAT DOES NOT EXIST WHILE DONT ENJOY THE REAL TRUTH AND TRY TO LIVE YOUR IMAGINATION WHICH IS MOST OF THE TIME UNFRUITFUL.

I lost my girlfriend last year and this was one of her favorite songs that she always made me listen to. I always come back and read comments everytime that I miss her and when I need a cry. I guess I can always come back to this place whenever to feel a sense of community with thoughts of life, whether it is love, loneliness, happiness, sadness, adventure, and grief from the same people who have the same reason as I do. Atleast I can tell that I'm not alone. If you're reading this I hope you're doing fine and that you can find the strength to fight everyday.

Could you imagine being the woman behind all this? Having millions of people hear your life story through these beautifully written songs. I wonder how they all connect though.. I know Ophelia, Angela, Cleopatra, and Sleep on the Floor are all about her but can't put them all together

ChanelDarkSide I don't think this song is the beginning necessarily. I think this is just her imagination as to what would've happened if she chased after him. Cause in Cleopatra, he obviously left and she didn't chase after him.

+IndieAir yeaa , but in Angela she is the one who left him behind , so.. I think this is not her imagination , she run away and marry him (sleep on the floor) , got pregnant and left him ( Angela ) and then regret but still had her son to make her happy ( cleopatra ). That is my theory :) but the beautifulness in this clips and wesley/the Lumineers musics is that exist a lot of ways to interpret them.. Maybe you re right or I m right ... The thing is, that doesn't really matter , the true is what the music make you fell deep inside and what that is the true meaning.

This is my girlfriend's account she died last night july 3, 2021 around 8pm. She always makes me watch and listen to this and other The Lumineer music videos and make different kinds of theories of the connection of the video. I can't believe that I'll be able to relate to this music video on how I want her and me to run away together. But I just wake up and realize she already passed away and I'm just a few meters away from her casket now. I LOVE YOU KYLA make sure to pack yourself a tooth brush dear, pack yourself a favorite blouse, take a withdrawal slip take all your savings out cause if we don't leave this town we might not make it out.

Everyone ones talking about the connection between the songs but the biggest message I received from this album is that you can make many choices in life and if you feel like making a different scary choice out of your comfort zone then just say screw it and run with it, it might be the choice of your lifetime Its 2:00 am I feel lost crying standing in the face of a huge decision and read this comment that said exactly what I needed to hear right now. Then I realized I wrote it 7 years ago. Follow your heart and don't let others opions get in the way, you get one life.

Putting all your faith in another person and kicking the rest of the world to the curb is one of the bravest things a body can do! But if you can do it, you may just get more than you ever expected! 32 years ago I threw everything I knew to the wind, and today I am married almost 30 years to the love of my life ❤ so Go for it cuz we only go around once and deserve to be happy!

theWanderer521 its definitely harder said than done. Its not easy getting out of your comfort zone. But i will tell you one thing, its the best thing you could ever do for yourself. Our legs were meant for exploring and our eyes to see new things. We were meant to be wanderers. I just packed my bags 2 months ago and moved from Fort Lauderdale, FL to Summit County in Colorado with a car and $500 in my pocket. Now ive got a job at a Ski Resort and I am going to study at a newrby college. Go out and explore! This world was meant to explore!

This song reminds me of the first 7 years of my marriage. We road tripped, couch surfed, and camped continuously. It was a blast, and we got to know each other well, and we got to see almost the entire country. We even road tripped across Canada one summer. Having kiddos changes everything, and although I love having a family, this video makes me tear up. Those memories are precious, and I look forward to growing old with my wife and doing this again as old people. :)

Ha.... I’m living that. My fiancé chose to walk out and go back to her emotionally abusive parents. We we’re gonna run and live and dream. She had always wanted a tattoo, she’d never been on a road trip, she wanted to work with foster kids. Her parents are wealthy. I am not. They hated me for that. They hated me for encouraging her to step outside her comfort zone and chase dreams and adventure. We had planned that when we got married we wanted to put some distance between her family and she and I. To convince her to leave me. They told all her friends that I had raped her, but she was too ashamed to admit or talk about it. So her friends and family we’re all trying to get her to leave. I lost the respect and friendship of most of my peers over all of this. I had extended family dealing with the fallout of their character assassination. One week before the wedding, we found out she was pregnant. We we’re scared, but so excited. We had always wanted to have children. Her family detonated, they suggested she raise the child without me, they called the cops on me, they told her I had mental health issues, they called me family and begged them to convince me to leave her (which didn’t happen because my family knows that her family is psychotic) Finally the pressure became too much. She left without even a word. I got a text saying she was leaving the country to go visit family, I got a letter saying she miscarried (They might have convinced her to abort the baby but I don’t know) one month later I got an email saying it’s over, she loved me but I don’t respect her parents enough for us to work out. She said I’m a good man, and that she was so inspired and excited to dream with me. But her family hates me. And her family is what’s most important to her right now. She’s gone. I don’t know what to do. She was my family.

There are a few movies with similiar plots, Into the Wild is one, isn't a love story but I would dare is that is quite romantic actually, Paper Towns is another one not as good as Into the Wild but the ending was nice IMO, another one is The Motorcycle Diaries which has as well a kind of a more serious turn of events. There are certainly more movies but these are the ones that I have watched and can recommend.

Alright, so, after watching Sleep on the Floor, Angela and Cleaopatra (in this order) a bunch of times, I think I finally understood the story! Sleep on the Floor - Her father dies. She is dating the guy with the glasses. During the funeral he tells her to leave with him ('"Cause if we don't leave this town we might never make it out"). Now, the part where she splits into two is very important to undestand the plot! Basically she never left with him... She stayed and they broke up. But she wishes she'd leave... So, the whole romantic and YOLO story from this video never truly happened. Angela - She is married to some other guy (not the guy in glasses from Sleep on the Floor) and she is also pregnant with his child. Now in this video, she leaves him. When she splits into two, the other part of her goes to bed again but that is not what happened. She really left him. Cleopatra - She is alone and her son shows up later (the one with whom she is eating a burguer and fries with) and she drops him off with his father (the one she left in Angela). When she divided into two, the other part of her goes inside the house like they were a happy family. But thats not what happens, she is alone and lives with regret for not leaving with the guy from Sleep on the Floor, but at the same time she is happy that she has a son she loves ("And the only gifts from my Lord were a birth and a divorce") Overall, its a sad but very real story about decisions. This is all based on a true story and this is how i believe things happened. I also think that everyone can create their own version of this story and how it ended. Amazing videos, for sure!

When I was 5 or 6, my family and I drove down to Florida to see my grandparents. I was sitting next to the window in the back of the van, and everyone was asleep except my dad who was driving. On the way down, we passed a couple in a truck, probably mid 20s. When we passed, they saw me in the back seat and were waving and smiling and put up peace signs . They looked so happy and I remember how much it made me smile...this video reminds me of them.... I wonder if they ever thought about that 5 year old they waved at? I hope they're both happy.

The next year & 1/2 was the most miserable period of my entire life. But the road was still an escape. I don’t miss her one bit. Only the freedom & liberation I felt as a nomad. We met 1983 at age 27 at a small club in Ann Arbor (Joe's Star Lounge, now gone... REM played there ). I had one failed 4 yr relationship, she had several. I told her very bad jokes. We saw lots of small movies, beat up the bed, and both worked at our jobs very hard. Did that for 5 years and I started to roam. We broke up. I tried two other women, but just a couple months later I came back and said... "lets give it another go". We did. Still worked very hard at our jobs... moved in together, finally after 10 yrs of dating and living I said... "lets get married" . We did, on a Sunday, Halloween, 1993 on stage at the Majestic Theater in Detroit where I had been one of their sound guys.. Now I'm 63, she is 64. We still go out to small clubs, to the NOLA Jazz and Heritage Fest, Ann Arbor Summer Fest. We pet the 2 cats and life is good. It can happen like that.

Comfortable and boring are exclusive things, but usually together. Not necessarily. latelag probably meant that. If you're bored, then you're boring meaning you don't posses enough creativity to make your time/life interesting. Lots of of people make something out of nothing and a lot have no idea what to do with all the things they have. Nothing personal, have a nice day! :D
@phobos2k2
@phobos2k2 8 жыл бұрын
I think you are each talking about two different aspects of life: day to day life versus stepping back and looking at the big picture. Some people are "boring' because deep down they are afraid. They are afraid to step outside of their 'comfort zone' and risk very real loss to go after what really moves them. We're not talking about entertaining yourself after work. We're talking about finding that meaning in life that transcends what you thought was possible out of life. It's kind of like the difference between going to a concert or risking everything to be in the band.

The story is complete! Cleopatra and Angela are the same girl as here in "Sleep on the Floor". Its about a girl who was in love with a boy. Her father died and the guy she loved asked are to basically run off with him and thats when the story splits. One part she runs off with him and the other she doesn't. The part where she runs off with him is her imagining what could have happened, then she's snapped back to reality where she's "Sleeping on the Floor". In "Angela" she stays home and marries someone she doesn't love and realizes it while she's laying in bed. She gets up and leaves and is happy to leave because thats what she wanted and should have done in the first place. (The firs album in "Slow it Down" he says 'Angie come back to bead'. Makes you think how long this story's been brewing.) In "Cleopatra" she's older working as a taxi driver where she's reminiscing over past memories as she's on her way to pick up her son from the airport (i believe) to take him to his fathers, where it splits again as she thinks about what life would be like if she never got up in the middle of the night in "Angela" and left. This is a story of a girls struggle through life as well as her regrets. But she seems happy the be right where she is. Man I love The Lumineers.

When I was a little girl, I knew this boy who lived next door. He had cancer, and a few weeks before he died, I remember he was playing this song at a campfire with his family and some other neighbors, because we knew that he was going to pass. Now all these years later, I have met a guy and he kind of reminds me of this boy. So when we got to know each other more, I played this song for him. I like to believe that the little boy that I knew those years ago can live on through this song, with someone that I love today.

Interpretation… “Sleep on the floor” is an indirect way of saying get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Real relationships. The intro is visioned with a funeral, but I think there is a deeper meaning with context of a relationship(s). It’s really a break-up/parting ways message. The sacrifice of comfortability is what challenges the strengths in our relationship(s). The uncomfortableness really is a tests for us. If we don’t take the chances that were once prompted with, we risk the possibility of what could have been. That’s the fear of unknowing. What prevails are those defining moments. What was felt and left, especially after things didn’t work out, is our feeling of what love is, and that’s what we will forever chase.

No. If you temper yourself well, learn yourself, work to improve yourself and be authentic, then all your memories and past experiences will merge into you, they will become essences within your spirit, and there may be bittersweet moments looking back, but if you do it right, you can be right there again, just by looking back. Don't be dead before you have to be.

I go back to this music video every time my heart feels full of love or when it’s been broken completely. It finds a way to make me cry in a bittersweet way. The last time I saw this, I was alone, reminiscing the idea of what could have been and why it didn’t work out. I’ve fallen in love again recently, and I’m sure this is the one. We go on adventures together-most of which are on a whim and other times, as simple as visiting a place we’ve never been to together. Whatever comes our way, we manage to figure it out in the end. I’ve loved before and for the first time, this is the one that feels right.

Small update: I've been with this lovely one for about a year now. I still get butterflies in my stomach each time I see him, and his presence makes me feel safe and comfortable enough to be myself or a version of myself I've never realized was there all along. Although recently, there are times when it feels like I'm losing him. I have this looming fear that one day, I'm not enough for him to stay. Yesterday, I've had an overwhelming feeling of that, which is why I've come back to this music video. I guess I just need a reminder to make the most of whatever time we might have left.

I heard this song 8 years ago, when I decided to change my life in better, work for a better job, a better future. In the meantime I met this beautiful guy, which lived 1000 km away, we really liked each other. Having a relationship with him seemed too unreal, too difficult. We didn't see for a month but I kept thinking about him. Then I saw this video and I thought "I can't see him again, but what if I'll regret it for the rest of my life?" . We got married last year, after 6 years living together. Now I saw again this video and made me emotional, I'm thinking about all the moments, all difficulties and all love over these years. And all these have been better than what I dreamed about. ❤️

Same I feel trapped at home and constantly surrounded. I know my parents love me, but they worry so much... Especially after the rough year we had- they just love me so much they won't leave me alone. I can't leave the house because they don't trust me to be safe. I feel so trapped that it's like my heart is trying to push out of my rib cage just to be FREE. I've spent my entire life being perfect for everybody. Doing with my life what they would have loved to do. My parents want me to be smart and make a lot of money in my future job. Now my life revolves around school and any low mark creates this sinking feeling so profound in my gut that I'm a miserable wreak for days. My friend wanted to become a veterinarian. So suddenly that's what I wanted to do too. It becomes tiring trying to be perfect, pretty, kind for everyone at the same time. Even for just one person. I've lived my entire life in a trap that I created myself. Now I've dug the grave so deep that it's almost impossible to get out. This song does make my think of being free and independent, which is something I'd love... I wish I could just pack some bags and get out without leaving a trace behind. I wish I could dissolving to the back of everybody's minds and be forgotten so I can live my own life and dreams, not the life and dreams of my parents or friends. The meaning of life is not to find yourself, but create yourself. Please don't make the same mistake I did :) Sorry for that rant xD. I just saw that comment and was so surprised that somebody else even felt trapped too that I had to reply... Kinda turned into a rant lol :)

true. the whole concept of these videos is showing the decisions she regrets in her life and how it would've turned out if her decisions were different. kinda sad :/

the song reminds me of my dreams, my hopes and what it would be to travel around the globe with someone special. it's one at night, and the world sleeps, yet this songs gives me hope that no matter how bad things seem, everything would be alright. Just breathe and smile, and give it time, things would get better!

You don't have to travel. I've been with the same wonderful girl for 35 years and we've barely traveled other than up and down the west coast and a little bit of Mexico. When you are with the right person ...wherever you are is where you need to be :) ... of course two wonderful boys had a say in that lol!

Just a lonely African girl who feels like she's stuck in a never ending state of lack. It breaks my heart I won't be able to leave my tiny country in this big world. I love this song so much ❤️

Girl I'm the exact same, I love in Northern Ireland and the people here aren't the nicest.. I hope someday I can leave this place, hold in there we'll see the world in all it's colours one day ❤ even though it feels small and our lives don't have much purpose, but it's only temporary. We'll see everything we put our mind to :) don't forget your dreams 💖😊x

hmm that's interesting...I feel it confirms exactly what I thought before the pandemic: we have go to not take things for granted but do today whatever we can to make sure we are living our best life and f#$% the banks and and debtors and those that may judge because it is easy, I am going to rail against my dying day (but social distance yes, I am not seeking death)...and those whose parents help them pay the rent, well I guess they are lucky.. or am I luckier that I always had to figure it out for myself and feel that much stronger now.. sending positive vibes with this song in my mind. Peace
