Mane6's save on transforming Fighting is Magic to TFH is a really brilliant move. They were able to recycle most of their development data and use that to make a good fighter game with a marketable quadrupedal twist.

Oh yeah, I forgot about this. Mane6 received a C&D from Hasbro, but the backlash was so great from the fandom that Lauren Faust offered to design original characters for the game. I got to play an InDev version of Fighting is Magic at Canterlot Gardens a little before the legal troubles and I’m sad we didn’t get more than the Mane 6 in that released version.

I don't think she offered because of the backlash, but yes, that's pretty much how it went, among other things (like scoring the Z-Engine).

She was supportive of the game long before it was C&Ced, and she didn't just offer to design the characters, but joined the team to also work on lore, plot and script. As SmokeRulz said, she wasn't pushed by backlash.

I really do think it was a good idea to steer away from mlp. Even if it was a cool idea to have them fight, there's a lot more creativity that was put onto the original characters. Stuff they probably couldn't even do with fim. Oleander is a great change from Twilight :D

I'm not sure about the creativity part, it's a whole show spanning almost 10 years. With spin off's, not to mention Equestria girls. Compared to TFH which are character's, and that's about it. There's a lot more that could have been done if Hasbro hadn't C&D'd. Not to mention TFH's character's are directly inspired by the mane six, for a reason I imagine. Immitation is the greatest form of flattery after all. I reckon the designer's understood that.

While it was kinda sad that fighting is magic was shut down, honestly I'm kinda glad it happened. We wouldn't have TFH if that didnt happen, and I think it works so much better than the FIM. Not being limited by the show means they can have characters that trully fit the whole fighting theme, as well as being able to have their own unique style. And unlike before, they can actually gain proffit from this one, wich in turn increases the chances they'll keep support on the game as well as working on new stuff. I think everything turned out for the absolute best

True yet Hasbro did seemed to be fine with it like a lot of fan stuff up until EVO. Mane6 told their fans to vote for Skullgirls but some didn't listen and voted for Fighting is Magic, then it's understandable as to why the fangame got cancelled (from what I understand of the story). But I do agree, I'm glad Them's Fightin' Herds was born from the ashes, especially with Lauren Faust offering to help, being a fan of the fangame. TFH can be free to worldbuild and such.

That’s so wonderful and great that they pretty much saved Mlp fighting is magic by making it into Them’s fightin herds and creating their own characters to act like the mane 6 and use the same movesets as them. Holy crap, I'm so glad they finally finished it! 😀 I remember the whole C&D issue with the original game. It was unfortunate, but I get why it happened. I remember people playing it at my local pony con back in 2013. Good times. I was excited when Faust said she'd help the development team make a similar fighting game with her original characters, but I figured it was canceled because I hadn't heard a thing in years. Just like TFH is the improved version of FIM, I'd love to see this property go for an animated series. Not because I think it would be better than G4's show, but because it would definitely be better than G5. G4 style, headed by Lauren Faust, with a property that isn't all about making money? We could get some great things outta that. Plus the fighting game theme of the world would lead us to some nice fight scenes in the show like we'd never be allowed to have in MLP.

Well FIM was made using Fight Maker which is a terrible engine, it’s so limited in what it allows, it’s a miracle it looked as good as it did.
