I'm pretty surprised at this. I was there in October and ordered the large fish and chips, and it was brilliant. Even had a can of beer with it. To be honest, you seemed to have made your mind up about the place before you even went in.

I have been to this place with my mum. We both did not like either. The worst fish and chips I have ever had though was in Grimsby. We thew them away and then went to another chippy in Cleethorpes on the recommendation of a traffic warden and they were the best we had ever had. Was so nice we ordered another piece of Fish to share. It is called Steels Corner House Restaurant on Market Street.

Customers father opened fish and chip shop, you wouldn't believe the cost to set up. Range i think was like 30k. Ran it for 2 years, gave up when someone slipped on tiled wet floor and sued him. Said it wasn't worth the hassle. Sold the shop.

We went in there earlier this year and yes it was truly awful. I think they cater for the masses without putting any effort in and the staff were not rude but looked like they didn't want to be there.

Even though it's officially known as the High Street, it's more commonly known as Chip Pan Alley, even though there are only about 3 Chip Shops along there now. The last time I was in Trawlers Catch the food was excellent, Lee. Glad you checked out Raff55, we always make a point of having a Breakfast there whenever we visit, great value. Another good Chip Shop is Salt's on Roman Bank Road, it's just past The Ship Pub opposite the Co-Op as you head towards Northshore Holiday Centre and Winthorpe.

A couple of months ago, the wife and I were in a fish & chip restaurant in Croma, Norfolk run by a TV chef (apparently). The fish was very thin to the point of more batter than fish.

I agree; I just don't understand where these awards come from. The worst f&c I've had in recent years was from Mansfield's 'best' chippy. I'll not name and shame them, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they were having an off day, but the meal was so greasy that the oil soaked through four layers of best chip-shop paper and absolutely soaked my trouser legs.

Great review and not without being deserved. Absolutely love some of the music you use on your videos - especially ‘A Simple Kiss’ at the beginning, i’ve found so many new songs - very much my sort of my music. The Trawlers Catch looks just like a beach bar I visited in Daytona Beach in Florida a few years ago albeit with less sand and broken ceiling fans than that bar as Hurricane Irma had gone through the week before lol. Yah as a local you should have gone to Eption's( High street), Salt's(Roman bank) or evan Cod and Cockerell on Wainfleet Road in or out of season you can all ways get good service then again as a local if your face fits then you get fresh fish and no redipped chips...

I have lived away from England for so long I don't think I would be a very good judge on quality, that said I do know that finding quality fish and chips in Australia; is like searching for the Holy Grail!! as a lad; the little chip shop at Skipsea was fantastic, I would always spend my "gambling" money (Nanna's donation to go and bugger off and leave her in peace) on a battered sausage, chips with scraps!! Had the same when I went to Scarborough Looked up on a review website found the lifeboat chipy. So me and my wife went there all I can say way terrible. Fish and chips tasted burnt. And we're very Greasy. Did a review online within minutes had a response from the owner. Saying if I wasn't happy should have taken them back and he would have replaced them , all I can say is he was quite happy to sell them to me in the first place. So no I believe gave them 3 stars. That was generous. Was supposed to be five star chippy. I don't think so.

Don't know Steels Rest but my late mother was from Cleethorpes and still remember going to Beckets as a kid for the proper sit down fish and chips with bread and butter. Blooming marvellous! I'm 62 now so must of been good if I remember it still!! Unfortunately down South now but will hopefully make it back for those fish and chips again, a ride on the miniature railway and a few pennies in Wonderland. Up the Mariners!!

Only been to Skegness once, in 2006, and my mate Steve, from Leicester (another East Midlands Lad!) recomended me looking up Chip Pan Alley, as he called it. I think it was Eptons I ate at, and they were brilliant! As a general rule of thumb, at seaside resorts, always look for a chippy in the back streets, as those on the Prom tend to cater for the lowest common denominator!

That didn't look great but I've seen a lot worse for more than double the price. I'm not sure why but too many places are selling wafer thin fish these days. When I was a kid (about 30 years ago) our family of 4 could eat well by sharing one large cod and large chips.

You should try Harry Heywood's fish and chips in Huddersfield. A proper old fashioned fish n chips place, tiny little place, owned by the guy who played Gorgeous George in the film Snatch with Brad Pitt. Amazing fish and chips.

The other chip shop was closed probably because they couldn’t get fresh fish as the fish markets are closed between Christmas and new year so you probably had frozen fish!!!!

That tray the food is in looks very small, looking at the fork and the chips. £7.25 for small F&C with a can of pop..... How prices have gone silly in 2 years. Visually it looked, but there is no excuse for greasy poorly cooked food. Hope you enjoy your Christmas dinner more! All the Best. Ian.

TBF...what would anyone expect from Skeggy! Has anyone been to Brid these days...if not....DON`T! The `Clientele` they `cater` for wearing the latest shell suit attire, with obligatory bum-bag, looking like they have never sat on chairs before....supposing of course any normal chair would actually bear their enormous weight...it`s like going back in time to early post-WW2 days. Benidorm without the sunshine. I am working class from West Yorkshire and anything but a snob, but it has to be said, some of these people haven`t just slid down the evolutionary scale, they have dropped off the end. You said it yourself when in Spoons with the blonde angel....listening to a group (Or ....herd!) of `ladies` having a belching competition....
