Something to understand is that Deadlock is _genuinely_ still in an early alpha state. Probably half of the current characters are getting new models, the map is early and going to go through another art pass or two, mechanics are changing significantly every weekly patch and new mechanics are getting added (they just added walljumps and ropes everywhere??) Probably just over a year ago the game was still "Neon Prime", when the game had a cyberpunk theme. Totally different map art, character models were totally different (a few like Yamato and Viscous haven't been changed yet)... Icefrog & Co. really, really want people leaving them feedback on the official forums, because they're genuinely listening for it.
@brooklyngray15274 ай бұрын
This is actually pretty normal for Valve. They run weekly playtests for their games while in development, basically as soon as they have something playable, while most devs only do them towards the end. It's the main reason why they take so long to develop games, and why they're so good.

There is SOME spare lore on the heroes page in the main menu. Abrahms is a detective that everything got destroyed and found a misterious book that he has to protect, Bebop was created by a woman engineer so Bebop is like her son and Bebop is here to pay for her medication. Then you got some funny lores like LASH or Yamato, and then you got SEVEN which has a scroll bar and Viscous is really interesting. Seriously, check it out, factions have names, the in game banter also feeds to the lore. Its scarse but it is there.

"early access" rn they are still tweaking it Viscose went from just green humanoid slime To have bit more personality Like bigger eyes And visible skeletal And still being optimized

Im so happy this has a unique setting instead of the same vague future thing it feels like he have got for the last 10 years. Basically all MOBAs are like medival magic fantasy so it’s a good break from that as well.

I can't get over the fact that it's Valve who were talking about The same Valve that had the golden egg that was TF2, only to let it rot and be replaced by Overwatch The same Valve that does NOTHING to promote Dota 2, the only game in the world with the potential to be a true Menace to League when talking about MOBAS That same valve that has practically 0 mistakes when it comes to making games, only to do nothing to impulse them That Valve is now making this, I don't know how to feel

Hopefully, Deadlock will be talked along side TF2 and CSGo in 10 years... If Valve doesn’t completely abandon it.

I think the game being very gray is a good design philosophy so that it's easier to track action happening on screen

I usually don't really like third person shooters either (though I do like third person games, just not shooters) but whem I'm done moving I'm definitely going to try this out. Looks like Valve really thought this one through. Had a lot of questions, but it seems like they've already had an answer ready for most of them. It's nuts.

one bit, the reason the map is rather desaturated is because it helps with recognizing the highly saturated character abilities, which is important for a competitive environment

I don't know why but it's kinda funny how marco showing league instead of dota 😂

1. Concept art for the map shows that there will likely be more color and visual detail in the future. They probably don't want to do all the finishing touches until the map structure, pathing and mechanics are closer to final 2. I'm a longtime DotA player and that game has over 120 heroes. Coming from the same developer it's almost a certainty Deadlock will have vastly more than the 20-something heroes currently in the game 3. I agree this game is a 9/10 and once we all get the hang of it and it gets polished/finished it's probably going to be a 10.

One of the biggest issue for me is that you want your gun to feel impactful in a shooter. But depending on how far behind you and your team is it can feel like a pea-shooter. You don't want to aim, track and shoot your enemy just for it to barely do anything. But it's more of an issue I have with the genre mix and not necessarily the implementation because I think the game is well-made enough, although I don't know if the cartoony aesthetic helps on that front.

You should note the dullness in the game is to distinguish between abilities easier. Thats why the map doesnt have that much color otherwise you cant see it
