There IS gravity on the moon. What is missing is air or an atmosphere, which is why the feather and hammer fall at the same rate, because there's no air friction. If there were no gravity on the moon, neither the hammer nor the feather would fall at all. But the Bulova is very nice! Cheers!

@@VersedNJ Good one! 😄 Only one problem with that theory ... assuming the presence of an atmosphere, even in slow motion the hammer falls faster than the feather.

To be fair, the hammer and feather _would_ fall at the same speed without gravity. Of course, that speed would be zero.

It occurs to me that as a LUNAR watch, the real spec shouldn't be how water resistant it is, but how well it holds up in the vacuum of space and in the extreme temperature changes on the moon's surface: -279 in the shade to +260 degrees Fahrenheit in the sun. Now there's a watch testing video someone needs to make!

I have one of these. A few comments: - Bulova *does* offer a version without the date complication and with the same 1970s-era Bulova logo on the dial (but still the bigger size though) - the 5ATM WR isn’t particularly bothersome, as the Omega Speedmaster Professional is *also* 5ATM WR - if you use a NASA-style Velcro strap (like, for example, Kizzi), it does help reduce the lug overhang (I have a 7” wrist so I can get away with wearing it - just) - I do like the lever-style chrono pushers, you don’t often see that style on chronographs

Phantom...Great get on the no-date, 70s logo Lunar Pilot. However I believe that it isn't available on the bracelet version...a shame. That said, the hole placement is different on the bracelet. I do occasionally swap the bracelet for a sublime Bonetto Cinturini rubber strap, which is unbelievably comfortable.

One of my top 10 watches in my collection.. Then again, I am 6ft with 7.5 inch wrists and "built like a brick outhouse" so it looks perfectly normal on me. Wore it for a Halloween night out where I was DJ-ing for an alternative 1980s night with a black and orange nato strap, black shirt with pink flamingo's on it, black jeans and winklepickers. Looks absolutely epic. Alas, not a watch for short arses.

@@punkoid76 It's the lug placement dials the size back quite a fair bit. Also, you can't add the Luna Pilot stainless steel strap to the leather/nato version - Bulova altered the lug hole placement intentionally so you couldn't cheap out and get the stainless steel strap later.

I've owned an Omega Speedmaster, and was not really impressed, especially given the cost. I now own the Bulova Lunar Pilot, and it has exceeded my expectations. Just bought the leather edition of this watch today for $400. Your review talked me into it. I love a watch with a good story to it. The Macys limited edition comes without a date window, if you prefer the original dial. I’m super happy that the tach ring is under the sapphire on this watch instead of an exterior bezel. Really helps the wearability without worrying about banging up a bezel. You should check out the urban gentry walkthrough of the Bulova museum… Bulova is such a great American watch company.

Great review, great watch, I have an 8 inch wrist and it sits just fine, the quality and presentation punch way above its price point. Fantastic daily wear without worrying about wear and expensive Omega moon watch. One feature I love is the crystal is protecting the outside black ring markers, usually these painted black rings get scratches first up with mild knocks. All in all great watch, amazing back story and looks the business. Comes with a NATO strap too extra on certain packages.

I can't get enough of your ridiculously entertaining...presentation and production. I've had the bracelet version of Bulova Lunar Pilot since release in 2015. I also own an Omega Speedmaster Professional. I have an 8" wrist so sizing is excellent. The bracelet is pretty much the perfect band for the watch. It's 20mm, so it fits with the 60s-70s esthetic. It also resembles the Omega Speedmaster Professional's bracelet from that era. I wear the Lunar Pilot daily, so the black writing has faded to simply silver...which looks great. Accuracy is incredible. I use the chrono feature a lot, and the first battery lasted 3.5 years. I'm about to replace the second battery. I don't baby the Lunar Pilot, and the unique sapphire crystal has never been scratched or chipped. The movement is very unique and a technological wonder. It should get more respect, similar to the Grand Seiko's Spring Drive.

@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTORI know how much you abhor homage watches, but a couple of years ago I purchased a Phylida (Moonwatch) chronograph with the Seagull ST-19 manual wind movement and skeleton back. It was about $160. The quality is ridiculously good. I really like black dial chronograph watches with bright white hands and there aren't many around. I actually use the chrono functions...more often than not to time the usury parking meters in NYC. The Bulova Lunar Pilot doesn't have a 12-hour register timer, nor do the many moonwatch homages. That's why I gravitated to the Phylida. I wear the Bulova when on foot, but when driving p wear the Phylida, or my Speedmaster Professional.

I got the black pvd model on black friday at kohls for a little over $200. Used the savings on black Di Modell Chronissimo leather straps with white stitching, makes the 20mm look 22mm. The black does wear smaller, and the old school font and no date is perfect. Have been wearing the 50th anniversary edition for a month. The titanium is lighter and so comfortable. This is probably the only time it pays to have a 8.75" wrist. Your assessment on this piece is spot on my friend. Bigger wrists get the LPs, smaller ones get Reversos. I own the limited edition which not only comes with that leather strap but also the NATO strap which I really prefer of the two for regular wear but I will swap it for the leather for more formal occasions. I will say this, I feel for you being small wristed, that you won't be able to enjoy this beauty but now you know what us more robust wristed fellows feel when we discover an absolute jewel of a watch but it's just too small. When I saw the specs on this one I was over the moon (excuse the pun, hmmm not!!!). That being said, those Bulova lady's and lads should come out with a smaller size as well as keeping this one so more of this watches fans can enjoy. 100% agree with you on this watch. It needs to be a couple of mm smaller, I could even live with a 42 but 40mm would be perfect, it would be nice to have more layers of BGW-9, and yes more water resistance. I could happily compromise on all of those wants IF Bulova shaped the case better and put some curvature on those lugs to make the lug to lug around 47 or 48mm. Then it would be perfect. These issues of the watch have been widely circulated in the watch world, and I really hoped Bulova would have made these changes for the 50th anniversary of the moon mission. But instead they just changed the colours. Shame as it is a gorgeous watch.

THE MAD WATCH COLLECTOR I dare say that has something to do with it, although I'm positive the high frequency quartz movement is used in other Watches in their Precisionist range, including the Curve models. In fact they could leave the case completely as it is, just shorten the lugs and get them to turn downwards so it doesn't sit so flat to the wrist. As you mentioned on the video, I bought one, loved it, but my sub 7 inch wrist just couldn't carry it, so I had to part with it.

Fortunately I have an 8” wrist, pretty flat across the back, and it fits me perfectly. The black edition and the high polish do not have the date window and they do have the old bulova script but are still 52mm in length. Little prohibitive for the market. If you have the chance the 50th anniversary model is a good show, still too big for your wrist, but a nice look in titanium and gold plate. I've got the polished no date version. 7.5" wrist. I like it but doesn't get worn much. Leather strap at the moment but want it on a formed rubber strap. It came on a nato strap I think and have put that back in the box.
@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR3 жыл бұрын
I do like the no date version especially as it has the old logo, but I do prefer the bead blasted case on this one. How come you don’t wear it much?
@michaelbradley57223 жыл бұрын
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Too many watches and I don't sell any 😟. I sort of gravitate to the no date versions when they are offered but yes the bead blasted would be very popular. I only wear it when I know there is little chance of knocking it around. Just not a good every day watch? I think it is the biggest watch I have.

Great review, I thought the size would be the main limiting factor for you. I love this watch, fits my 7 3/4 inch wrist perfectly. Your wife was right though, the supplied straps didn't cut it, so it's now on a nice maroon colour strap from Zulu Alpha straps. Not going to flip this one. Hope your next Bulova review will be the "surfboard".....I think you'll like that one!

Another Sooper! review Russ , as i have the same wrist size as you i can not buy this watch either but i found a Seiko that has similar qualities at 43mm diameter and 48 lug to lug . I also bought a Bulova Marine Star but the lug to lug at 50 just pushes it away from me and i dont wear it . Oooh get me i'm getting all serious! back to normal next week i'm sure .lol

Reduce size, remove date and maybe increase WR to 10 bar and it’s pretty much perfect. Maybe remove the hz reference from the face to match the original look. So yeah, 100% agree with you. 😂 My wrist is 18cm, so pretty average at a bit over 7” and I also think it’s too big.

Tried this puppy on in the shop but didn't pull the trigger. It looked good (my extra inch makes all the difference) but need to see the blacked out one first, it has no date and the Bulova font is same as original. Congrats on 10k, oh yeah, Mr Pagani is an absolute winner, love it.

I would definitely be tempted with the no date ref with the old logo! Think you were right not to pull the trigger. It’s a beautiful watch.

I’m a huge fan of the Bulova moon chrono! I like it better than the Omega, both the price and I think it’s a more interesting design. Bulova should really put out a true re-issue in the smaller size and without the date wheel. I think they’d sell a bazillion of those! (I’d buy one)

Another great vid Russ. 10K well deserved. I was about to pull the trigger on one of these a ways back and did a double-take at that 45mm. That was a deal breaker for me too. Bit of a missed opportunity for Bulova really. Reckon if they'd got it down to 42mm it would've been a real hit.

size isn't bad, especially if you get an extended strap and wear it outside your jacket/spacesuit. too bad only has 60 min. chronograph, and the chrono minute indices are really hard to read especially when the chrono minute hand gradually moves to next minute rather than clicks over. want to flip it, but every time I wear it... *sigh* wearing it for work right now, so nice. and you're right regarding water resistance- I get nervous doing all that handwashing these covid days.

I still occasionally wear mine, but not really use the chrono. sad actually. It's a great reference to set my other watches by though. over the tracksuit, while on a jog? that'll get attention!

Great video on this Boluva Lunar Pilot. Have you considered reviewing the 43mm version? I would really love to own this watch, but like you, I have a 6.5-inch wrist, so the original would be far too big for me. It would be great to know your opinion of the changes and its wearability.
@curiousmind48703 жыл бұрын
Great presentation of this Bulova. It's a great and beautiful watch. It's a pitty they didn't make the same model that went to the moon. Still this beauty goes to the wish list. By the way, congratulatios to Mr. Pagani and his professional insights. Cheers!

Great Watch, was very happy to get one when I found out about it! Have mine on a curved end rubber strap from Zuludiver looks really good. I agree it could've been smaller and been able to be worn by many more ! Great Red Dwarf reference too, not heard anyone say Smeg for years ! I'm with your wife Russell, not a fan of the leather strap. Superb video as always ! 👍🙂👌

It fab until you put it on your wrist. The lug size is too small for that case. Don’t mind the date where it is you can hardly notice it but a screw down crown would have been nice.
@Plexcom603 жыл бұрын
It's lovely isn't it. I've had mine seven or eight months. I don't wear it a whole lot, but I like to look at it a lot. I have the black PVD model WITHOUT THE DATE. It came on a black leather nato which was very good, but I currently have it on a black MN style elastic with a thin white stripe to match the chronograph hand. Love the layered dial, beautiful crystal, the case back and the size. With an eight and a quarter inch wrist it's perfect. I'm very sorry to hear it's too big for you. It's an ongoing point of contention isn't it, this watch size business. I wonder when the adjustable diameter watch will make its way onto the market?
