The Maine Woods

2 жыл бұрын

This old trapper cabin at Nine Mile on the St. John River was built by Camille Beaulieu. He died in 2006. In 2015 the "Lost Cabin Hunters" who are now called the "Maine Cabin Masters" renovated the cabin installing a standing seam metal roof and flooring. In this episode I set the foundation, remove the floor and clean up the site then use a chainsaw mill to make some lumber to rebuild the floor. I also was able to visit Dewey who owns the cabin across the river, he shared some photos, told some stories and made me dinner. The pictures of the wood box with the indian head painted on it is Helen Hamlin's woods box from the book "9 Mile Bridge."
This cabin is an official North Maine Woods campsite and is open to the public on a first come first served basis.#logcabin #offgrid #cabinbuilding

A friend of mine remarked that he didn't see the "sense" in renovating the cabin. I said, "What if you got a 1964 GTO and the floor pans were rusty but the rest of the car was in good shape? Or even a 2014 Corolla? He was like, "Huh? I told him that with the GTO, he fixes, he drives a legend, he fixes the Corolla, he fixes a car. One can buy a new Corolla, one can not buy a new 64 GTO. Good job, my friend. I'd go with the cabin any time. Buy your Gracie a steak, she's been guarding you 24/7 during your task!

As a young man I was always in a hurry to get things done. I did good work but I always thought it could be better. The older I got the more time I took and the more deliberate I became. The quality improved immensely. My last project was painting a 12x12 bedroom. I took an entire weekend to do it, but the results are amazing. You are doing a heck of a job, keep up the good work. Its to bad you couldn't mentor a few teenagers during your reno's. Thats a lot of work for one person. Thumbs up for Gracie, what a sweet heart.

Enjoyable 2nd episode Cory. I have learned so much how cabins are build and maintained. Your attention to every detail is remarkable. Fun to see you and Gracie having fun in the water. Would be nice to see you enjoying it more often. Also good to watch your visit to gain a little history. All in all a great video!
