By far the thing that has helped me the most and what i would recommend is learning proper punishment against popular characters. You could be leaving hundreds of points of damage on the table per game or even PER ROUND by not punishing properly
@silvercrate3 сағат бұрын
You, my brother, are speaking facts. Learn your punishments because alot of punishes can lead to a knockdown, which leads to oki and potentialy full combos or extra damage or pressure.
@snorlaxRMO3 сағат бұрын
Agree. That's a big one
@tongpoo89853 сағат бұрын
It's the most important thing. That's why I think heihachi is a great character for beginners to learn, his punishment is so absurdly strong it makes it feel worthwhile to test what punishes you can get on certain moves while you play. Though it can lead them to always default to flash punch and ws1, so a bit of guidance to get them in the habit of trying different stronger punishes is good, then they see the huge rewards for exploring what works and it becomes second nature.

not only is giving your opponent the floor to do their moves really important for that match, overwhelming them with confidence only to reverse them, but it's also really important in the long run. Usually people with the same character have similar patterns, flowcharts and best moves, so even if you lose, go into practise, find that move, look at the frames, reach and properties to reduce the amount of times you get hit by it.

@circa20087 минут бұрын
@@CubeItself Thats the worst way to use heat. It's a full waste of bar for an extra 20 damage in combo. Heat dash in combos, again, should never be used, unless it kills your opponent if you do it. You will be much better off launching, wall carry into wall combo. THEN pop heat once they wake up. You now have a FULL heat bar during your mixup when theyre trying to wake up, AT THE WALL. its 50 times more dangerous to do this instead. Try it bro.

In my opinion, the hardest fundamental from your list MainMan is movement. Am I the ONLY one who will not be convinced otherwise that the movement is completely different? Especially back dashing? It’s more than obvious some characters are INFAMOUS for their movement (ex; King has almost no back dashing…) at a high level, it is so incredibly frustrating to see someone move so well and I’m stuck to my 2 back dashes at a time. It’s not like 7 at all!
@AngeloGene2 сағат бұрын
Oh, King has bad backdash cancel by design, if I remember correctly. That's why he has Jaguar step. To be fair, King's single backdash is decent. But not KBD. Do not kbd with King. Use Jaguar step instead.
@gabetapia59362 сағат бұрын
@ for sure I was just making an example but even then the back dashing is just not the same don’t you agree? I can KBD in 7 with King… where as I cannot even come close to doing that in 8. This doesn’t just apply to King, where I feel like his already bad back dashing got even more clunky, but think of someone like Jin maybe? You NEED to be clean with the cancel or he will meet the same clunky fate. Idk man someone needs to help me 😂 great comment tho yes King has his 🐆 strats
@AngeloGene2 сағат бұрын
@@gabetapia5936 Correct me if I'm wrong. But I also heard the devs talking about nerfing kbd across all characters while also buffing normal backdashes. Like literal "b" spam. That way, newer players are not required hand gymnastics just to get good at Tekken. KBD historically is an exploit that was discovered (or popularized, not sure) by Koreans. They never intended the characters to move back so fast. So yeah, I think this is why they nerfed it. It's still usable, btw. Kbd is still recommended, but it's not "required" anymore. I mean, just look at Lil Majin's recent streams. He exclusively uses jaguar step and normal backdashes and he's doing extremely well with the character. 👍

So technically, if you don`t know the match-up, e.g. Zafina, Bears - you don`t have fundamentals, is that right? I can always hear MainMan saying something like "oh he has ducked my string, this guy is good, he has fundamentals". That thing doesn`t make any sence to me anymore. I always thought that "Fundamentals" are those mechanical consepts, which are general for all possible situations, and not for any specific situation. If fundamentals are different for different situations, they by definition cease to be fundamentals. If a match-up knowledge falls under the term "fundamentals", what does not possibly fall under it in that case?
@CellSaga5743 сағат бұрын
This entire game is just a knowledge check. it is not a fundamental based fighter because movement and spacing is unescarrily complicated and weak. Also add ontop of that, characters like Lars,Claudio,Alisa, Azucena, Reina who just take up all the space so you have to do pin-point accurante sidesteps, and you pretty mcuh ahve nothing but matchup knolwedge. In Street Fighter, you can figure out the counter to opponents character through logical reasoning, and the rest is just controlling your space.

@CellSaga574 street fighter is the most simple game out its literally just a little mini game every match. Anti air, hit confirm combo, at the corner now guess throw loop or meaty then gg. Movement is definitely not that weak in tekken 8 you cant whiff punish without it so sounds like you still either need to get good or stop playing the game. I agree tho this game is 100% just a knowledge check but once you do know the stuff its not that hard. Makes it a rough way to learn the game tho for new players
@WTDGLСағат бұрын
fundamentals as a term is overused by tmm in this context. Yes match up knowledge is good to have to gain an edge over your opponent but you don't need it once you understand the general design of characters (aka what type of fighter are they? Counter-hit heavy, string heavy, 50/50 heavy, or poke heavy etc...) labbing specific moves doesnt give you stronger fundamentals but rather allows you to maintain your gameplan against your opponent. You just need to remember the idea that x moves can be used once y attack is used, therefore i should avoid/do z move instead. You are correct that fundamentals are mechanical concepts and are general in nature. But match up knowledge is not the definitive metric to determine someones fundamentals
