It was its first MOT and needed a lot of money spent on it to make it roadworthy,looking into the oil filler cap it looked like it was running on black pudding and was rattling like a tin of dried peas,no way was i getting involved with that vehicle.

MOT tester here, bear in mind you can take the wheel, hub cap etc off to inspect, you can't during an MOT test, it can be near impossible to see the pad in its carrier, and when you can, judging minimum 1.5mm thickness is tricky. No excuse if there is obvious metal to metal though, that's just sloppy...
@paulhughes70358 ай бұрын
I was thinking the same. I was told MOT cannot take the wheel off so that means you cannot judge pad thickness. Only real test is the braking test but it does not tell you proximity to brake failure. Nice video content ...

Great work Guy's.. You're the real deal. I was in the tyre fitting business for a few years and remember a few massively over torqued car wheel nuts .. I had to jerry-rig some of our commercial tools to get the nuts free. I’m not a pro but have worked on my own vehicles since I started driving 25 years ago. Generally good work well done, nice to see an honest mechanic, I don’t trust chains or dealerships for the reasons you’ve highlighted. You do need to brush up on skills to release a seized bolt - was a real shame to see the alloy damaged. I do suspect it could have been cross-threaded. As someone already mentioned the first thing is you should always crack wheel bolts with the car on the ground. Second you could do with a high pressure compressor in the van and air driven impact driver - battery powered are ok but not up to the toughest jobs. When applying heat to release a seized bolt you need to get the bolt red hot, then let it cool off a bit (stops glowing), then try to crack it. If in a safety critical area the bolt should also be replaced afterwards as the heat could weaken it. The way you were using the torch - you had the coolest part of the flame on the bolt so it wouldn’t have been heated enough - also shame to use fire and damage the alloy. Consider having an induction based bolt heater in the van. I’ve seen one race shop use some sort of adapted welder to heat seized bolts red hot in seconds, very effective and can be used in areas where a torch would be too dangerous.

Long story short, 3 guys who spend all day lifting heavy things, and a 3m extension on both a cross brace and a normal tire iron and we couldn't get a single nut to loosen. Drove it flat to the nearest tire shop. 20mins later with a rattle gun, they managed to get the tire off and lectured me about putting wheels on with rattle guns, apparently with alloy wheels it "Welds" the nuts on. THEN proceeded to put the wheel back on with THE RATTLE GUN! "But ours is set up right"... Took the car to my own Mechanic the next day and got 4 wheels loosened off (Which was an epic ordeal) and tightened back up by hand... And I've made a pest of myself ever time its had new tires on since...

The reason that RangeRover stopped running away will be because it blew them 3 injectors out and only had one sealed cylinder left to create compression. As for stuck wheel bolts you want to keep a ¾" power bar in your van that's what I use on VW/Audi rear hub bearing bolts.

He did a decent job taking the wheels of the the metal rims were on so hard that they would not come off with a 10kg hammer or when we left the nuts loose and i drove it around. We eventually had a special tool to take the wheels off. When we put new ones on I did the tightening - i was 21 quite fit and i knew it shouldnt be on too hard (not having Nm wrench) but one of the guys said "I am not letting you go like this and with his full strenght done all the wheels again. The next mechanic who was trying to take the wheels off had to take a smaller size socket hammer it on my rounded wheel nuts and use a 3meter pipe while hanging on it with his full weight.

New sub because of the quality vid I just watched. I have worked on my own car for years, but only because i am a cheapskate. But, i'd be happy to see (and pay!) for a trades person like you; taking pride in your work.

When I remove the Nuts from my Wheels, I leave the Van on the Floor and stand / jump on the Wheel Brace to crack the Nuts & then jack the Van up to remove the wheel!

That BMW wheel stud, you should consider testing this - Carbide Drill bit and bolt extractor, it would only cost to replace the stud compared to damaging a wheel....the heat from the 10-12mm drill bit driving into the stud should heat the stud enough for it to pull free straight away. It's worked on engine bolts SO many times...plus it wouldn't cost you an half hour to hour of piddling about, once you know it's jammed, just get an extractor on it, a stud is worth pennies

I have a 2003 Seat Leon 1M 1.9 TDi and it still runs perfect with no issues like what you have on this model of Seat. I would not let Kwick Fit Fitters any where loose on my car except for tyres and exhaust.

I like your content it's nice to see someone who knows what he is doing. I wish you would talk about the cost of the repair of each job I think people would like that. Subscribed

No 1 all ways have your car on the ground when you’re losing wheel nuts . No 2 you were pulling up trying to loosen the nut , 180 degrees and you can stand on it and use your weight to loosen it , don’t thing it would have made much difference with these nut ,it’s worth a try. No3 when your trying to use electrical tap , wrap some round a bolt ,the use the bolt to to put the tape onto wire tape is 3 in wide bolt is 3/4 in . love the work keep it up 😅😅😅😅😅

I think @ 9:02 all 3 wire bundles need moving to the right one clip/holder. The inside one is bent and off all 3 move right one place all will be clipped in place and problem wire will be held not loose

Great work. I hear a lot of bad words said about mobile mechanics normally due to a lack of knowledge. You clearly know your stuff.
@themarvelousvlog8 ай бұрын
There’s a few mobile crooks out there I can’t lie. Saying that, I believe that most mobiles left the garages that they used to work in because they know their worth and deserves better; meaning they probably know more than most garage mechs out there

I had a garage for years and had to visit quickfit a few times, usually young ladies who only went for a tyre and were told the brakes etc etc were dangerous and wouldn’t let them leave

Yes you are spot on about the bad reputations that garage's have even main deaers but you can hold your head up as you do first class work well done young man.

Sparky work. A repair is a repair and now better than before. As it now works.
